Mistletoe

Rate this book
Three sprigs of mistletoe, two women... and an elf on a mission.

Four-year-old Diana Clarke sends her wish to Santa Claus, but lost in the lining of a sack, it isn't discovered for thirty years. Now, Santa has a problem. No child's wish has ever gone unanswered, but the child isn't a child anymore.

Believing there is nothing in Santa's Village to satisfy the little girl's wish now that she's an adult, he calls on a Higher Power and is given a suggestion. Although most of Santa's workshops contain only toys for boys and girls, there is one that holds a possible solution to his problem. Learning that Diana will be attending three upcoming Christmas parties, Santa calls on his lead elf to deliver three sprigs of mistletoe, hoping that under one, Diana Clarke will find what she asked for thirty years before.

I have been a writer of fan fiction for several years, and the numerous responses that I received during that time from my readers, convinced me to try my hand at self-publishing. Originally from Delaware, I now call Florida my home, and when I'm not writing or working... I'm playing golf.

My genre is lesbian fiction. Although my books are adult-rated for the love scenes they contain, they are not merely erotica. They are romance based, and inside you will find all the things that make a love story a love story. Attraction, distraction, lust, angst, comedy, and of course, sex. :)

Mistletoe is a jolly sounding nickname, but alas, this story is not so festive. Sure, there's Santa's appearance. Most of the time he sits in front of the computer. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he has stocks on Wall Street.

Till now I've read 3 FF books by three different readers and here I'm placing them in order of preference: Miranda Macleod, Emily Sharp, and Lyn Gardner. There's a pattern in that order. Macleod's is the lengthiest book, but with the least amount of smut. And Lyn Gardner's for this book, is the thinnest book with the most 'action'.

I'm reading these books to see if a pairing of two gals can be less provocatively clumsy in their relationship compared to a regular romance. So far the experiment is a success. The books are not irritating to me. But they, of course, carry different levels of quality in them.

I've adjusted to reflect how much I just enjoyed this book not for writing perfection. This has become my favorite Christmas romance. You've got MCs that are likable, not so likable supporting characters (boo, hiss!), Santa, Elves with silly names, HEA & a great epilogue. Yup, it's become a holiday reread.

Edit 2019: You'd think I would get tired of this story. But nope, I enjoy it every time. Now it's time for me to start my Christmas baking...

Cute and funny holiday novella. It’s got some of the things I usually complain about such as insta-love and very little communication between the two love interests. But somehow it all comes together to create this charming little story.

This was a very Hallmark-y and festive read. Took the MCs less than 15 minutes to fall in love. Not my cup of tea.

Four-year-old Diana's Christmas wish gets lost in the lining of Santa's sack where it sits forgotten and unfulfilled for thirty years. When it comes to light, Santa sends one of his elves out into the world on a mission to grant the overlooked wish.

It sounds like the setup for a family Christmas movie, and for the most part that's what this book is, and it would make for a great one, though it would be a shame to experience this story without the deliciously steamy sex in later chapters.

I smiled my way through this tale and if you like feel-good holiday movies there's a good chance you will too.

I'm giving this a 5/5 not because it's particularly deep - or even realistic - but because it gives you everything you want from a Holiday read. It's just warm cuddly festive fun filled with lady love and a giving charitable spirit.

Yeah some may cringe at it, but it's so darn sweet and adorable!

Santa (the very real one) and one of his elves finds an old letter forgotten in the lining of an old sack, and it pains him to know that he never gave that child her wish. But that child is now over 30 - so what's a guy to do? He calls in some favors in order to make some magic for her this Christmas.

Three sprigs of mistletoe with three kisses, conspire to bring Diana and Jamie together.

This isn't as G rated or PG as you might think, either. There's a, um, solo moment as well as the penultimate togetherness, if you know what I mean... And darn it was hot! *fans self* and then more in the epilogue. I know!? Right?

Lots of Christmas magic here, so I highly recommend it. I'm still beaming.

I believe it's on sale on amazon at the moment.

A very nice surprise.

I honestly wasn't expecting much from this book , I just wanted to fill the "Holiday" square from the Lesbian Book Bingo, so you can imagine my surprise when the book turns out to be very good.

We have 30y/o Diana single, with an unfulfilled Christmas wish and a very distress Santa that wants to fix this mistake soon.

The MC were very likable, a well developed story with a lovely romance. ( I may have shed a few tears at some point in the story).

I will classify this as a Feel Good Book™, really if you are feeling down this is the book you want to read, it will improve your mood, I can confirm this.

I feel like anything I say will reveal too much of the story, so let's go with It was so nice that I'm putting a reminder in the calendar so I can read this again on Christmas.

100% recommended it to everyone because really is just so nice and cute.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr. Baby, it’s cold outside! Speaking of which, Tina Fey and Kenan Thompson recently performed a Christmas sketch on SNL with this song. Have you seen it? Well, if you haven’t… Kenan plays… wait for it… Bill Cosby. The joy that I felt listening to that tune was sapped completely after watching that episode. I’m still cringing. Those lyrics are damn awful! What the hell!? Anyone who knows me well, knows that I love Christmas. I’m borderline obsessed. When I hear the rhythmic sound of bells, or choruses of “Ding! Dong! Ding! Dong!”, I think I go into some kind of holiday hysteria, which is probably the reason why I didn’t notice what the words meant before. I’m just surprised that it took 75 years for someone in the world to notice the lyrics and point out the creep factor.

Anyway, on to the review…

I’ve read both Ice and Give Me A Reason by Lyn Gardner, so I had an idea of what to expect before I picked up Mistletoe. This was a much anticipated Christmas read for me and it sure didn’t disappoint. What I didn’t expect though is the whimsical, light-hearted humor that I found within its pages. Gardner has an intense style of writing, and she portrays her characters’ personalities to be very bold and passionate. The characters in this story were quite a bit softer (marshmallows, in comparison to Toni from Give Me A Reason and Alex from Ice) but they fit the tone of a Christmas story. Christmas stories shouldn’t be too heavy. The holidays are stressful enough with all the shopping, and the weird relatives visiting, and the god awful traffic. Right?!

What I’ve grown to appreciate with the author’s pairings in her novels, is that one of the two is always gender-ambiguous. You never really know exactly where they fit on the feminine/masculine scale. We all have our own preferences when it comes to the type of books we read and the types of characters we identify with and gravitate toward, just as we have our own preferences on who we choose as our lovers. By being gender-ambiguous, the books appeal to a larger audience of readers. The novels feel more inclusive and welcoming to readers across the gender and sexuality spectrum, so it is more about the story than it is about our own pre-conceived notions and expectations based on societal norms.

This story isn’t just about finding your soulmate or two women falling in love. It’s about the magic of Christmas, and how love touches our lives and brings us together as a beautiful tapestry. The author covers all the Holiday bases: love, happiness, cheer, family, miracles, and the joy of giving.

Now, if only Santa can find my letter in the lining of the sack too….

This is another of those occasions when, late at night, I decided to see what I'd read the next day. And accidentally read an entire story. Namely this one here.

When Diana was four she 'wrote' a letter to Santa via her aunt. She asked for a soul-mate, she wanted what her parents (now dead) had had. Naturally . . . . well 1) Santa's real and he grants children's wishes (just 1 per child if I read right), though only those wishes of children, not adults; 2) it's 30 years after Diana had written that letter, and that wish has still not been granted (it got lost in the lining of a bag), though now that Santa and company know about this wish, they decide to try to do something about it.

Santa and 'Him' come to an agreement, since Santa isn't really supposed to be helping/granting wishes of adults. Santa has learned that Diana will be, or is supposed to be attending three Christmas parties, and so Santa is going to send an elf with magical mistletoe to be used at each party. The mistletoe will give a nudge, not create something that isn't there.

Diana is an unemployed former prison officer (she had been a prison teacher, but that position got removed so she moved over to prison officer, but learned she didn't really like being a guard). She is going to these three parties because her friend, who I believe is named Gloria, needs to go to these parties - is required to go to them. They are three company parties for the three different divisions at the law-firm she works at.

Division 1 and party one is lead by an asshole of a man, and let me stress that again - he is a really huge asshole. His division handles criminal matters, so his party, filled as it is by clients, is filled with 'criminals' and their barely clothed, surgically altered, and probably ex-prostitute 'girlfriends'. Also present at the party are the law firm employees, including the heads of the other two divisions, and that ‘plus one’ – Diana.

Diana enters and is immediately annoyed that she agreed to go. Based on seeing the party guests and being sexually molested by Thad Falgen’s eyeballs (I don’t actually remember the asshole’s name, but ‘Thad Falgen’ works for me). Thad is quite taken with Diana and begins to make some moves. Showing that it is clearly power and money that would cause him to ever get laid. Diana’s not interested, and not because she’s a lesbian (as far as she knows, she’s straight – yeah, I’d forgotten this was that type of story).

Recall, if you will, that there’s this elf that is supposed to be flinging mistletoes at people (okay, hanging one up). Well he arrives and is very tiny, invisible, and partakes of the food and drink. While waiting for his moment. For some odd reason he thinks that Diana’s ‘soul mate’ might be ‘Thad’ so he sets things up. Thad, super drunk, won’t let Diana leave when she wants to do so, so Diana is saved by one of the other law firm division heads – Jamison – the individual who Diana had actually spent some interesting time with talking to at the party. Saves with a kiss in a ‘now she’s been kissed, get out of the way’ way.

Jamison meant for a three second thing, at most, but there ended up being more than 3 seconds. And Jamison doesn’t know how Diana felt about the issue, because Diana immediately left after the kiss.

Division 2 and party 2 are hosted by ‘Lillian Willbourgh’ (again, I’m not actually sure about the name). ‘Lillian’ handles divorces, and only ever takes the side of the men. Also she is a very huge and very forceful bigot and homophobic individual. She also really really loves Christmas decorations and her party looks look . . . well, . hmm. Like 18 Christmas stores were raided for all products, and dumped inside her place. Also there’s like 800 tons of potpourri stinking up the place. Which causes massive issues to Jamison, but both Jamison and Diana had been looking forward to seeing each other again, so Jamison stuck it out.

And so. Two people circling each other. Spending but moments together. And one having to deal with the idea that they might actually be a lesbian, despite not previously realizing that possibility, and both dealing with massive waves of lust/love for the other based on like 4 minutes of being near each other.

Massaging the ending, and cutting most of the epilogue would make this a great perfect story. The epilogue was way too heavy-handed and sappy, though.

Second time I’ve read this story.

4 Stars - Sweet dose of Christmas magic with Santa and elves and magic mistletoe. This a a quick and very enjoyable read. I like both characters and even though it is insta-love it did not bother me because "Christmas magic" and I believe if you run into your soulmate, you would know pretty darn quick something special was happening. The epilogue lets us back into their lives 25 years later and it was really great to see them still thriving and living their best lives. I could easily make this an annual Christmas read.

My mom showed me a post that said after all this covid crisis is over we're starting the year anew cause it hasn't been a success, well what better way than putting ourselves back in the holidays and Christmas' spirit 😂.
I'd understand if anyone might find it fast but seriously it's well paced even if they fall in love almost immediately let's consider that we're dealing with Christmas' magic so far so good for me.
Jamie and Diana are great MCs the background characters are not that great but they have some qualities that make them not totally evil well except for Gwen and Diana's aunt who were awesome.
Well that was a quick read, with no drama and point bonus always for HEA

I recommend this cute Christmas read. Missing a child’s wish 30 years ago, Santa and the man upstairs decide to try to grant it now. The little girl asked for a soul mate, to be like her deceased mom and dad. Santa tracks down the girl, now a grown women, and sends his main elf with three sprigs of mistletoe, to help her find her soul mate. The book is a short read, great characters, and a good story. Don’t let the Santa thing throw you off, the women beauties, the sex is hot, and there is a very satisfying HEA. Enjoy!!

What an enjoyable holiday read. Do you believe? Did you ever believe? More importantly, do you still believe? My response to all three questions is yes :) !! Diana Clarke made a wish that got loss in flight but in a well told story, anything is possible. Jamison Nash has it all with a heart for giving and making a difference. This is a short read that packs a punch. Not only are the main characters interesting but so are the secondary characters. The most awesome part of the read is the epilogue.

Young Diana Clarke had wished to find her soul mate like her late parents had found each other. Percy, an elf at the North Pole, cannot believe that he missed delivering a child's wish to Santa. In order to right his wrong Percy confesses to Santa, who in turn, asks permission from Him to grant a now-adult Diana Clarke a wish.

With three upcoming Christmas parties Santa sends Percy to place mistletoe at each party so Diana will find her soul mate with three kisses. During the first party, Diana is kissed by suave and successful female lawyer, Jamison Nash. Is Jamie Diana's soul mate or has Santa's plan gone terribly awry?

This was a delightful and adorable Christmas story! The settings and characters were described in full detail and I felt like I was personally attending all three parties. From the rustic smell of a cabin inspired mansion to the overwhelming scent of potpourri the author appeals to the reader's senses which makes the story very enjoyable. I could smell the warm cookies and almost taste the expensive Cabernet!

Jamison Nash was definitely my type of woman with her fitted androgynous suits, her excellent taste in wine, and a truly passionate personality. She wastes no time in wooing Diana with some classic chivalry- holding the door open and offering her jacket. The love story between the two spans over the parties and into the future.

I highly recommend this book to those seeking a fun, adorable and unique Christmas read!

This book had the potential to be good but it failed miserably. It had an intriguing premise (and that's what the one star is for), which if developed effectively could've led to a fun and frothy holiday read. In reality, however, one was left with a half-baked story, unidimensional characterisation and no chemistry between the two protagonists. Though there is a fantasy element in the story, the magic is missing.

Nice Festive Season Story

Nice little holiday story, not deep but then it doesn't need to be. 3.5 stars is about all I could give it though.

The magic of life is always there and you must look for it with a soul full of love.

Just WOW. This story has it all. The magical red one Santa, the wise elf, the permission of the great one to grant a wish and the delicious way the story unfolds. Diane whose wish at 4 goes unanswered, Jamison whose very real heart that fills the room meet. The story is to good to share in this review but if you want a holiday story full of unexpected joy, love and some very hot kisses this book is what you need. Lyn Gardner has brought more magic, pure bliss and great love to pages than the heart can hold. This is a divine holiday read you will enjoy always. Make sure it is in your holiday romance list.

honestly this felt like reading a bad fanfic written by a 14yr old. The whole instantly falling in love felt too forced and we don't get to actually to know the characters at all through the story. The abrupt changes in povs are not good for the story flow either. I also really hate how it tries to paint some really trash people as not that bad, people are flawed and all yes, but there's no need to show good sides to homophobic trash or king of harassment guys.

Christmas mishap

Santa has an old letter our that needs to be rectified. Sending his elf to do some magic with a little mistletoe. Lyn Gardner tells a holiday romance that will surely put you in the Christmas spirit. This is definitely in my holiday re-read pile for the holidays.

When Diana Clarke was four years old, she sent a letter to Santa. Unfortunately it remained undiscovered in the lining of Santa’s sack for thirty years. Santa has a huge problem. Well, two really. First a child’s wish has never been not answered. Second, Diana isn’t a child any longer and there is nothing in the workshop suitable. Santa is at a loss as to know what to do. After all, Santa is for kids..........Right? Santa calls upon his boss, the Higher Power. He is given a suggestion. There is one possibility.

Santa knows Diana will be attending three Christmas parties. So he arranges for his head Elf, Percy Giggly-Legs, to deliver a sprig of mistletoe to each party. Hopefully Diana will find the present she asked for thirty years previously under one of them.

A lovely, hilarious, delightful, well written tale of romance for adults at Christmas. Even though we know Santa only existed in a fantasy world, this fantasy story brought back all the feel good emotions and anticipation I associated with being a child at Christmas.

The characters are all cute and multidimensional. Whether or not you believe in love at first sight, this story is a little treasure. To be read each year as my build up to Christmas.

This is the second time I’ve read this book and it gets better each time. I read it after Christmas earlier on in the year and knew I’d read it again, so saved my review for now.

If you only buy one Christmas fantasy romance, I’d recommend this one. I love it.

3 stars. Super sappy and adorable. Like a Hallmark movie (which I love) but with sapphics and steamy sex scenes. There’s some magical elements to this and we even see Santa himself as a character which was cute. Jamie and Diana fall for each other as soon as they meet but you just kind of go with it. I liked both of their characters and I especially loved the epilogue which took place 25 years later with the two very happily married with children. Fun read and it was a good one to kick off the holiday season with.
