Snakes ~ Discover Series is a picture book of snakes with a wide variety of snakes. For older children looking to identify a snake, if has value but for a preschool child with limited personal experience with snakes, it has limitations due to the lack of personal experience of the child at this age. Preschool children would not be able to determine the differences in size of the variety of snakes. They need some personal experience like a trip to a zoo where snakes are displayed, and then this book would have great value for them.

The pictures are photographic and detailed with very little distracting background. The lack of background gives the reader no clues about where the snake might live and the only wording is the name of each variety of snakes. The graphics are well done, the information only the name of the species and of value to identify different snakes if the child has experience with snakes.
