Shannon Buckley is alone in the world after the tragic death of her parents. When the reclusive and handsome author Ash Winters moves into the village of Upper Device in Lancashire he offends not only Shannon but most of the village with his bad temper and surly ways. However, slowly the two start to become friends and she discovers there is so much more to the man than she first thought, his temper explained by a debilitating medical condition. The two start to fall in love but happiness brings with it a terrible danger that threatens to tear them apart forever. Someone in the village is determined to see Shannon dead. The picturesque village she's lived in her entire life suddenly becomes a threatening place, hiding a faceless enemy. Can they find her tormentor before one of their attempts on her life is successful? Winter's Sun is a contemporary romance/who dunnit set in the rural beauty of the north of England.

Author of over seventy books so far. Living on the beautiful west coast of Scotland with my husband, twin daughters and a cat called Mavis, although I am originally from Lancashire in the north of England.
My tastes in all things are eclectic, which extends to my writing. Although I primarily write crime books - especially gangland thrillers - I also write gothic historical romance and fantasy. I publish on Amazon Kindle and some of my novels are available in paperback too. I also have a traditional publishing contract with Boldwood Books.
When I'm not writing - which isn't very often - I enjoy reading Daphne Du Maurier, Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, MR James and the Brontes, among many others. I also enjoy swimming, walking and spending time with my family.
Heather Atkinson can slip between genres that appears effortless. Her books are pure escapism, cleverly crafted storylines with believable and real charachters and Winter's Sun, is another page turner x
This book was entertaining enough to stick with to the end, but really unpolished. I'm not sure if the author is self-published on Amazon or not, but there are a ton of grammatical errors (especially missing punctuation that help make the meaning of sentences more easily understood) and at times the dialog sounds almost like teenagers rather than adults.
I liked the unique plot lines and twists, but sort of felt the pacing of the couple's relationship was rushed and a bit immature. The hero at times felt like a petulant child, but maybe that was legitimately his character.
This book wasn't bad, and I'll enjoy reading other things from the author and seeing if her writing style gets stronger.
