A great introduction to eating clean. I know I'm suppose to eat only things that are good for me but sometimes those buttercream topped cupcakes just plead for me eat them and I am at their mercy. It doesn't count if I make them from scratch, right?

After reading this book cover to cover I realized I do mostly eat clean but have some work to do. This book says I need to eat 6 small meals consisting of protein and a complex carb, mostly lean proteins, veggies and fruit, and that I need to cut out all sugar (now that's the killer for me). I find it difficult to fit in all 6 meals because I tend to get lost in my work, review writing and housework and forget to eat every 2 1/2 - 3 hours. I think I need a timer. Anyway, I've been following the recommendations in the book, drinking a ton of water, exercising and eating only natural foods, nothing processed and have (mostly) eliminated my terrible sugar habit for all of 2 days so I will post any fab results at a later time, if I'm able to stick with this, that is. I can only say that I had the beginning of a migraine yesterday, possibly due to the drastic cut back on sugar but I expected some withdrawal symptoms as I've been eating far too much sugar & caffeine.

I'd really like to stick with this plan because I don't want to be all achy and sick and over medicated when I'm older and I get really grouchy when I'm not exercising. The author was in her 40's when she did a complete overhaul of her diet, got into strength training and she looks absolutely amazing. It seems pretty doable what with the easy to follow meal plans and the recipe section doesn't seem to be stuffed with strange recipes that my kids won't eat. It's also easy to look up "clean" recipes online if these don't suit (the recipe section in the book is a bit skimpy). Most of the book consists of tactics to help you eat clean and stay on track so I'd better keep it around because I have a feeling I'll need a kick in the butt.

Common sense info - eat proper portions of real food in a balanced diet. She lost me when she started justifying her fake boobs in the middle of the book.

There are good ideas in this book, but it is not something I would subscribe to 100%. Not all of the theories make sense, and I don't like the "eat-clean" mentality. There is actually danger in connecting your self-worth to how you eat. This can be an eating disorder in itself. With that said, I like parts of the book, and her story is inspirational. It's definitely a book that I am glad to have in my collection, and I will turn to it for food ideas. The recipes look interesting, and I'm anxious to try them, even though I don't think I will be able to fit them into my life. The ingredients are expensive and hard to find...not something that I am likely to use on a regular basis.

Ugh.... Eat small portions, work out constantly, and get a boob job to look symmetrical after child birth.

If you've read enough of these types of books, there's nothing new here, but the info is still good. I used to subscribe to Oxygen Mag years ago (still have some of the fitness articles cut out) and I was sorry to see it is no longer around.

This is not a diet book but a book that helps you change your mindset and relationship with food. I will try to apply some of the things to my lifestyle immediately.

A very good book with some solid, common-sense advice. The rule for portions and types of foods to eat are solid and I'm confident they will work. I've started following the advice in the book. I've heard many of these rules before in other "lifestyle change" formats but her style does make the program approachable. I would have liked a bit more attention to how to prepare foods, and list of recipes was far smaller than I would have expected in a book like this. That's the reason it received a rating of 3 instead of 4.

Note: There are many spelling mistakes (I have the e-reader version). It could have used a good copy/line editor because I found it a bit distracting. The words drop a letter (often L) but because the new word is still spelled correctly, it makes the reader stop and re-read to figure out what the author meant to say (e.g. the meaning of "flavour" is much different than "favour" which changes the meaning of the whole sentence...that's the distraction--you have to realize she dropped the L by accident). Still, I would recommend this book.

I'd say this is a 2.5* book. Somewhere between 'ok' and 'I liked it'.

There is nothing wrong with this book but I haven't found it a riveting read either. I think it would be an excellent book for someone who is just starting out on learning about nutrition and healthy eating. It has a lot of bright pictures and low word count pages. It has a lot of really good fundamental information about eating well.
Tosca Reno's personal journey to health and fitness is interesting and motivational also.

Unfortunately, I get a bit of an 'infomercial' vibe from this book. Maybe its that there is constantly a new Tosca Reno book coming out. Re-packaging and marketing the same info? Yeah. That puts me off.

another hit! this one has a lot more information than the "your best body now". it has meal plans and recipes that i'm looking forward to trying. i have noticed that when i don't put junk in my body and eat food in it's natural state that is good for me, i do feel better. i'm definitely going to try incorporating coconut oil/butter into my diet. tosca suggests it to help those of us who are ADDICTED to sugar...that has definitely been my biggest challenge-saying "no" to m&m's, ice cream and other sweet treats. getting off of soda, especially after what i read about what sugar does to one's skin, has NOT been an issue for me (never thought i'd be saying that!).

my new saying is "keep it tight"!-thanks, tosca!

I just couldn't quite relate to this book or the methods of the diet. the "infographics" throughout the book made it seem like I was being sold a PowerPoint. Many of the headings and intros sounded promising, like real info was coming and instead, everything was skimmed and read like "why is our diet so great? our diet is so great!". But mostly, my theory on health is different than the author... different diets work for different people, no doubt. seemed like she was missing something that made it seem "saner" for some like myself to follow.

Good advice for eating well on a regular basis. Just isn't something I can adhere to 100%. I try to make good choices but I'd rather enjoy what I'm eating than trying to fit all the rules in. I don't have the time, or desire, to spend all my free time planning out every meal every day and preparing for six meals a day!

Love the diet but I would have appreciated more detailed info. She talks a lot about the importance of different ingredients but does not tell you a whole lot of why, where to buy them, or how to prepare them.

I agree with all of her principles: regional eating, seasonal eating, small meals more frequently, freshest ingredients, grains, etc., but the recipes are so unoriginal--the kind of thing you would throw together with scraps.

The recipes at the back are good, but the front section on clean eating is a little repetitive, dumbed down and long winded.

Lots of good general advice on good nutrition but the presentation promotes orthorexia (obsession with eating ‘right’). Too many photos with fake looking ‘perfect’ teeth, tits, etc. This promotes anxiety among women and turns off everyone else.

The section on different advice for “top causes of death” borders on laughable. Why does she advise limiting alcohol to avoid stroke but it’s not mentioned for heart disease? Everyone should use sunscreen, not just people concerned about cancer.

If you know virtually nothing about nutrition, this is an okay place to start. If you care about supporting scientific validity then run far away because this is published by Robert Kennedy who is personally promoting the death and disability of millions with his anti-vax disinformation.

I really liked this book and how she explained good food and nutrition and the benefits it brings to your all around physical health. I like how she didn’t focus on calories at all, but just on getting the proper amount of macros from real food in each meal. She explains very well how to eat food in there natural state rather than processed. I recommend this book if you want to better educate yourself on foods that are good for your body! :)

Tosca makes the principle of eating clean easy to understand and follow. Since beginning the book, I have already increased my daily water I take to what it should be , and then some! The included recipes seem easy to follow. I'm anxious to get serious about putting it into practice!

The writing could've been touched up a bit and many things were repeated too many times but overall, lots of good truth in this book and she made me feel like I could lose weight and eat healthy.

I'm reviewing this book more for my benefit. Although, if some of you have read some of my other posts in the past, you might now I do enjoy trying to be a smidge healthy. But lately I've been slacking, so I figured borrowing this book would be a good way to kick-start my mentality back to reality and remind me that I need to go back to being healthy.

Tosca Reno is a well-known author and Eat-Clean advocate and user, well actually I'm pretty sure she's the one who started the Eat-Clean Club.. I made that one up! But anyhow, Tosca has available several resources to help people get back to what our ancestors knew when it came to living long, healthy lives. Who doesn't want that?
A well illustrated book with more advice than you generally get in one sitting with your dietitian. An index to help you find something specific. Meal plan ideas, grocery lists for several different lifestyles, whether that's vegan, family, gluten-free, and different lists associated to "cooler menus" offered. A whole chapter on recipes! They all look super-duper tasty, and I look forward to try a few out.

Good advice about eating "clean" (natural unprocessed foods) and avoiding processed sugars, non-whole-grain flours, and highly processed foods. One thing I completely missed the point on was when she was discussing the importance of eating clean on one's skin appearance. She went from saying how important good nutrition is to talking about how sometimes one might need to resort to cosmetic surgery to help with sagging skin after a big weight loss. She then goes on to talk about/justify her breast reduction? and then consequent implants??? Totally lost me there. Why would you place foreign objects in your body when you're so vigilant about the substances you ingest??? Because saggy boobs aren't attractive? Before reading, I was thinking her chest was pretty perky for her age....now I know why! :)

Aside from that odd section of the book, the rest was pretty interesting, though not news to those who are into "traditional" eating (eat good fats, whole grains, no sugar, lots of fruit and veg, etc.). The Cooler shopping list is helpful to get started, but the recipes don't look like ones that would be practical for me (large family, some who are picky; ingredients I don't like).

It was nice to finally find a book that really outlines the diet and principles of clean eating and where to start. I've been looking into starting this diet for some time, but have felt overwhelmed and unsure where to start. Tosca Reno outlines this diet beautifully. Each chapter was straight forward and to the point. Her writing style was easy to follow, but she could be very repetitive with certain things that didn't really matter. Like that fact that she states fifty times that she likes to call sugar an anti-food. I think the first few times were sufficient. I also found it interesting that she says to stay away from sugar and white flour, but then there are several recipes that have all purpose/white flour in them. All in all it was an interesting read and is a nice motivation to start clean eating.

I read this book time and time again for a number of reasons, and it is most definitely my favorite health/fitness book for a number of reasons.

1. It is realistic

2. It is not intimidating, but it IS honest, it makes you rethink HOW bad your eating habits really are

3. It is GREAT for beginners who are clueless as to what healthy eating actually looks like

4. It is up to date (as it should be) and includes lots of highly nutritious super-foods such as coconut oil that some books shy away from

5. It can be tweaked to suit ANY diet including Vegan and Vegetarian

6. It has beautiful full color illustrations

7. It covers ALL areas of healthy eating

8. There are beautiful illustrations throughout this book

9. It is easy to read and straight to the point

10. All the recipes I tried in this book turned out wonderful!

How do I love Tosca Reno! I won't count the ways here, but this is a book I have read over and over again. I go to bed with my cabbage soup in the slow cooker. Cabbage, beans, sausage, carrots with a very low sodium broth and a little brown rice tossed in for good measure. And this yummy all weekend lunch isn't the main thing for me. It's the going back to a handful of raw nuts and a couple of squares of 70% dark chocolate every night and only having real junk food once a week, and not the crazy amounts I love, enough to be sure, decadence, but within reason. I don't know if this is the time it sticks, my eat clean lifestyle, but here's hoping!

This book is pretty much the bible of eating! This is the way we should be eating. Everyone! I highly, Highly recommend it to anyone and everyone! It's not a Diet... it is a way of eating, a way of living... clean! No crap, no fast food, all natural food... the way God gave it to us! :-) I have't read through front to back, I read it more as reference, but I have read the whole thing (just not in order). And I continue to read around in it. It stays next to my bed, that is how much I love this book!

This book is officially my new kitchen bible. Tosca is right on the money! I have been working with a nutritionist and weight training coach and everything she instructs me to do is in line with what Tosca says. Only Tosca had more recipes and makes cooking more fun! Her advice and outlook on the eat-clean diet is not only wise but it is totally realistic and achievable for a regular woman who wants the best for her body and tasty recipes too! You can have it all and Tosca Reno will show you how!

AH-MAZING! I think everyone should read this book because of all the information Tosca has in it.
It's common sense that we should all be eating 100% clean since our bodies are designed for clean, real foods.
I haven't been eating 100% clean but I definitely got the little kick I needed to start on my 100% quest.
I look forward to all the positive changes my body will endure from here on out!
Tosca is an amazing & inspirational woman who I admire so much. I would love to meet her someday. Beautiful woman, beautiful book.
Read it!
