Duran leads a small force of Arnikans, setting up an ambush to kill the Cartosian Queen, Alana. Unfortunately, things don't go well for Duran and his sister and their friends, and things change. Duran is forced to become the Queen's bodyguard in order to save his family and friends. He reluctantly saves her life and little by little, the relationship between Duran and Alana changes as she starts to understand why the Arnikans are fighting her, and he starts to understand why she is doing the things she does.
