Mildly sensual, Some profanity, historical, 65,000 words. Hope Montoya knows someone is poisoning her, but who? She suspects her mother was also poisoned and knows her father was murdered. Who wants her family eliminated? She vows to fight! She realizes she won’t last the eight months until she turns twenty-five and her uncle no longer controls her or her estate. Never will she be dominated by a man as she was by her father, as she has seen her mother and grandmothers dominated. If she marries, she gains control now, but only if she weds a man she can trust. Only one man meets her requirements. Can she trust him to protect her and capture the killer...but then to leave?

Micah Stone has been in love with Hope since the first time he saw her. But he was accused of her father’s murder and surely would have hung if not for his two brothers’ aid. Most in the community still believe him guilty. But the drought has him too worried about water for his dying cattle to care about his neighbors’ opinions. When Hope proposes a paper marriage in exchange for land on the Brazos River and much needed cash, her offer rubs his pride raw. His name may be Stone, but he’s not made of it. He can’t refuse her for long, and so their adventure begins.

Mystery and romance go together. At least that is my opinion. I found a very good read with a good mixture both in Caroline Clemmons’ Brazos Bride.

This is a story of a young woman whose father has been murdered and now finds herself being poisoned. She has no idea who it is. There are many suspects who might want Hope dead to inherit her ranch. Who can she turn to? The very man that had been accused of murdering her father. Micah had been acquitted of the crime, but many people in town believe he is guilty. When he marries Hope as part of an arrangement to find out who is poisoning and to protect her, every tongue begins to wag.

Many believe she is imagining the poisoning because she is really sick. Then how do they explain gun shots directed at her? How do they explain fires deliberately set? It will take Micah and his brothers to protect Hope in order to keep her alive and find out who the would-be killer is.
Ms. Clemmons does an excellent job of bringing the reader a story that is believable and beautiful. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters and want to embrace them.

I will say that I figured out part of who did it early in the book, but not the complete story. Ms. Clemmons managed to keep me in the dark about many things. I’m finding too many authors lately who are really testing my sixth reading sense. Congratulations.

There are a couple of intimate scenes in this books that are not overly graphic. I like to warn readers in case they do not like such scenes. If you don’t, I would still recommend these books and lightly skip over these shorts scenes.

A great read and a good beach reading book.

Note: I purchased this book with my own funds.

Hope Montoya is being poisoned, but who would do that? and why? Her father was murdered and her mother succumbed from a "wasting disease" that Hope now thinks was also poison. She must save herself, and save her ranch--neither of which is easy when she's too weak to even walk.

Micah Stone has just been acquitted of Alfredo Montoya's shooting but the townspeople aren't buying it. His cattle are dying of thirst, and all that stands in the way of their survival is a pathway to the Brazos River--straight through Montoya land. Imagine his surprise when Hope, the woman who has haunted his dreams since he danced with her at the fandango, comes to him with a business deal. Can he save Hope, his cattle, and his dreams with his heart intact?

Every time I read a Caroline Clemmons book, I think it can't be better than the last one, but she somehow manages to raise the bar with each story. BRAZOS BRIDE is steeped in mystery and romance with a handsome cowboy, a savvy heroine, and a vile villain. I can hardly wait for Micah's brothers' stories! Note to Ms. Clemmons: write faster!

This story was enticing. The intensity kept me turning pages as fast as I could read them. Cora and Nick's characters were enveloping. As enmeshed as I was in the story and the characters, I was disappointed that their final 'connection' was so fleeting.

Have it in Audio
This blurb caught my eye and I had to get it and listen to it. This was a great start to the series. And once I saw that Valerie was the narrator it was a double bonus. Valerie voice was clear , strong and all the parts were perfect

This is a listen about murder , mystery and a thriller . The story was like a puzzle, that slowly the pieces were being revealed.

Hero is Mich . Heroine is Hope

Hope needs help but she doesn’t know who to turn to . Hope knows that someone is out to murder her . Hope also knows that everything that has happened to her family someone was was involved. She now suspects that her mother was murdered (through poison. . Her father was murdered but she now suspects from someone with a motive . Hope also suspects that she’s slowing being poisoned also . But why ?
She has nobody to turn to but for the man suspected with murdering her father .

Mich is the one suspected with murdering Hope father but he is acquitted but it takes the townspeople a lot to believe it . . His cattle is dying of thirst . There is only one river and he knows he needs to go through Hope land . Mich is wondering how Hope will react . Mich gets a surprise when Hope answers him .

How does she answer him. Grab it and see . Do they find the culprit .

Great storyline!

This was an intriguing tale that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was not a book I would consider sweet, so I had to skip a few bedroom scenes, but it was well written, and held my attention with the mysteries and suspects! If you like a bit of spice and mystery in your romance, this book is for you!

This started off with a bang where Hope thinks she is being poisoned and puts it to the test. With everything showing she is right leaves her with the question who and why. She is at a loss thinking maybe it is her family since her parents death she now owns everything. Would her aunt and uncle kill her to get all her wealth? She doesn’t know who to trust or who to turn to it could be anyone in her home. She decides to take her life back in hand no way will another man control her or hurt her as her father has done to her and her mother. She must find a man she can control giving him what he wants most in the world at the same time she will take over her land and money. First he must agree to her conditions which will be laid out for him to sign. She knows he is the man to keep her save and hopefully find the killer. The only problem being just about everyone thinks he killed her father.

Micah is shock when a man comes to him asking him to met Hope who he has loved from afar for many years. One night he held her in his arms as they dance it was the best night of his life until her father put an end to it. He wasn’t a very nice man when he put him in his place. He never stopped loving Hope but when she ask him to marry her he thinks his dreams has come true until she said it would be a marriage in name only. He said NO WAY NO HOW until something happens to change his mind as he runs back to Hope making her his bride.

Can he keep his promise to keep his hands to his self or will he throw it all away to take the women he loves and make her his wife. Hope is very weak and is in need of a lot of rest but as Micah watches over her protecting her over and over from those that want her dead it is very hard to turn away from the only man you can trust.

I felt Valerie Gilbert did a good job for the most part on this audio. She has a great smooth voice but at times her voice sound robotic not all the time but at times. She goes give wonderful emotion and you can tell what each are feeling. There were a couple of places where there was no emotion that I could hear. As a review for an audio you have to listen closely to the narrator voice why still listening to the story. At times it can be trying when you have both a good story and a good narrator. I feel Ms. Gilbert does a good job just need a little work on a smoother read. Her characters voices were great you did not have any trouble telling who was talking. I guess it throw me I thought Hope would have more of a Spanish accent which she does not. I did enjoy her many character voices you could always tell who was talking and just what was on their mind. I found no background noise her tones for the most part where smooth and even. There were no high or low parts just a clear listen.

Ms. Clemmons gives you a highly entertaining read as she hooks you from page one. She gives you wonderful characters you can relate to. Before you are done you feel these people are your family. You are so invested in the story you do not want it to end. My heart broke for Hope not only has she lost just about everything but to have parents who really didn’t care for you or each other made her life tough. Thinking her aunt and uncle could be the ones trying to kill her just doesn’t put much faith in family at all. She has a few good friends but she still is holding her cards close to her chest. Micah you have to love this man as he protects Hope with his life. He finds it hard to keep his hands to his self. This is one true gentlemen any women would be proud to call her own. Who wouldn’t want a strong take charge kind of man who is as gentle as a lamb but can put the fear of god in most men?

I love this authors writing style as well as the twists she puts in her story some you won’t see coming. I was almost done with the listen before I worked out who the killer was and almost missed the clues. This is one author that is very talented and gives you wonderful details why holding back enough to let you work out the who and what. I love the supporting characters his brothers will steal your heart and his aunts are just amazing. They will keep you smiling and even laughing from time to time. The author gives you excitement, adventure, a few heart stopping moments and some wonderful passion. I just cannot wait to start book two in this series.

For anyone who loves a pretty clean western romance you should pick this book up. There is a little sex nothing that is over powering and some major swearing as cowboys were well known for. I myself didn’t find anything wrong with this as I found this story and plot to be outstanding. I am very sure Ms. Clemmons and I will have a very long author – reader relationship. She gives you a thrilling, suspenseful romance you can sink into leaving you with a smile and love in your heart.

I am not always into Historical Western reads, that being said I really enjoyed this book.

The Stone brothers are delicious hero types. This is the story of the youngest brother Micah. He is just so sweet, don't let that fool you though, he is definitely a take charge kind of guy. Thankfully, he is willing to let his lady make her own decisions about most things, just her safety isn't one of them.

Hope is very sweet most of the time and rather meek. She has a backbone of steel but tends to stay lowkey. I loved the way she mostly saved herself by marrying Micah. THE ladies always kid themselves into thinking they are marrying the hottie to foil the villain, but really they have serious feeling for him. Sigh, classic trope but ya can't help but love it!

The supporting cast is terrific, the brothers are yummy and the aunts are such sweethearts! I hope we see them in the rest of the series! Great little bit of intrigue mixed into the romance.

The steam is rather light, the bedroom door is open, but just barely. Not full on erotic details but plenty of heat to make a gal sizzle. It has a very nice build to the consummation of the marriage.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Valerie Gilbert, who does a great job. While the lead character has a Spanish accent it is not heavy handed. The narrator definitely kept the flavor of the accent but made it easy for listeners to understand every word. She has a great feel for the energy and pace of the book, everything moves along smoothly. Her read helps things keep moving even when there is a bit of a lull in the action.

This is a very sweet series. Sometimes I like to take a break from the hot and heavy to enjoy a nice romance. This book was a great break from my norm. I am eager to see each of the Stone men find his HEA!

Desperate situations call for desperate measures so Hope Montoya makes Micah Stone an offer he cannot refuse. Someone is trying to kill Hope and she doesn’t know who. Being the last in her line, the large family ranch is the best bet for motive but the list of potential profiteers is formidable. A marriage arrangement, in name only, can hopefully afford her the security and freedom she so desperately desired. Micah, the owner of a neighbouring ranch has problems of his own. His ranch has no access to a dependable water supply and his herd is suffering. With a monetary remuneration and a sizeable land bridge connecting his ranch with the river, makes her offer too tempting to refuse. Although the agreement leaves a bad taste in his mouth, he is in no position to decline her proposition. With the vague hope that their business agreement will become something more and make it into a real marriage with love and all the marital benefits.

This is a story that successfully combines mystery and romance in a historical north Texas setting. As an expatriate of the Lone Star State I may be considered a Texas aficionado. This is the first book of the Men of Stone Mountain series and if this story is any indication it will be a series that appeals to the masses.

This is my first Caroline Clemmons book, and I found it to be a lot of fun. Hope is stuck in a house where she has no control over her own property. Realizing that someone is trying to kill her, she seeks the only solution she knows..get married. This will give her control over her own money and land. She convinces Micah Stone to marry her. Micah has been in love with Hope for a long time and does everything he can to protect her while trying to show her how great marriage to him will be. Since she has the ability to send him away at any time, he does his best to show her love and happiness even during their most dangerous times. With a few twists and turns, surprises and unsuspected villains, the story continues to throw you off. I loved meeting Micah's brothers, Joel and Zach and look forward to their stories as well.

Valerie Gilbert is an amazing narrator and gives us a wonderful performance for this audiobook.

I listened to the Audible version of this book with a 3.5 star rating.

"An okay story but inconsistent narration"

Brazos Bride: Men of Stone Mountain Book 1 was an okay story but hard to follow with the narration being inconsistent. It had the thought patterns of the characters in a normal voice and an occasional western accent. The Spanish sounded good part of the time but part of the time sounded Russian.

As far as the characters, they were good, especially Hope and Micah. The storyline was okay but seemed dragged out for eight hours with not a lot of excitement.

I think this book would've been so much better had it been edited down more and read in a normal voice minus the accents. I like both the author and narrator and in fact love other books read by Valerie Gilbert.

Audiobook - narration, Valerie Gilbert, ok
There are Spanish speaking characters and random Spanish words sprinkled through out and these characters are a little stilted, almost more like stereotypical Native Americans than Spanish or Mexican Americans.

Micah has had a man-sized crush on Hope since the first time they met and when she asks him to enter into a marriage of convenience, he jumps on board, but this marriage turns into danger at every turn.

There are some entertaining secondary characters that whirl around our main couple of Hope and Micah as they annoy and enchant each other and slowly fall in love while trying to keep each other from being killed AND figure out who's trying to do the killing!

It's definitely an enjoyable listen with some Scooby Doo tossed in to keep you on your toes.

3.5 Stars...

This is the first historical western romance I have read in a while. I use to only read historical romances, but then I branched out...I think it was after Jurassic Park (the movie) came out and I loved the it so much that I decided to read the book, then I started reading all kinds of genre's. Anywhere from John Grisham to Suzanne Brockmann. When Twilight came out, I started reading Paranormal/Fantasy and now since The Hunger Games came out, I read a lot of Apocalyptic/Dystopian. I'm rambling now...so back to this book.

Brazos Bride made me realize I still really like historical romances. You always know there will be HEA at the end.

I had decided to give this 4 stars, until the ending. It was a little too corny for me, so I deducted a half a star. There were also a lot of "digital errors" in this book, especially towards the end.

Hope Montoya is slowly dying someone is poisoning her to get her ranch. She starts to stash food so she can eat food she knows is okay. As she starts to feel better she comes up with a plan. Micah Stone owns a ranch with his brothers. Hope summons Micah to the Judges house to talk to him. She doesn't let anyone know what she is doing. She asks Micah to marry her until they can solve this mystery. she will give him money and access to the water on her land. He thinks about it for awhile and he agrees. Sometimes, though we know what we want before we do. Micah has always been attracted to Hope. As they try to find the persons trying to hurt Hope, Micah's life also becomes dangerous. This is a great story about them and I know you will enjoy it. There is a little sex in this book so it isn't for all

Actually listened to this as an audio book.

This was a great story concept. I enjoyed the characters, the mystery of what was going on behind the scenes, and action to get to the bottom of it all.

The descriptions to details were done nicely, the characters were well written and easy to become emotionally attached to. I didn't fall in love with the characters but I did really like them. The dialogue flowed nicely and the story line was well written.

Written as a multi pov.

Would I recommend this book? Yes

Hope, the main female lead, thinks that someone is trying to kill her, is she paranoid or correct in her thinking?
She needs help and someone to trust, next scene, enters Micah.
Micah, the male lead, has been secretly in love with Hope and surprised by her offer.
I liked Micah's character he was always there for Hope.
This book is a perfect blend of mystery and romance all rolled into one story

Valerie Gilbert did well with the narration.

Western romance

The first book in a great series, in this first installment we meet the Stone brothers. Micah is the youngest Stone, and he's been pinning after Hope Montoya since he arrived in the small western town. Hope needs help and she plots to ensure her survival by any means possible, even if it means marriage to Micah the man accused of killing her father.

This was an okay story. It didn't draw me in like most stories I read and, therefore, I didn't really care what happened to the characters.

I found it strange that Hope didn’t have a Spanish accent when everyone in her family does. Also that Eduardo didn’t have an accent or know how to say certain Spanish words when his parents both speak Spanish.
