Decent enough read, but the footnotes seemed to cite primary sources only a handful of times so it's questionable where some of the material actually came from. I wanted to check the veracity of some of the facts presented, but feel like this aspect fell short.
He wasn't born in Kentucky. He didn't die in Kentucky. Yet, to the average American, the name of Daniel Boone is inextricably linked with that state.
I had hoped for a more detailed biography of Boone. However, only 49% of the Kindle edition that I read was Thwaites' book; the rest was index, footnotes, and advertisements for other books.
Very informative book. I was surprised that so many of the 'facts' about Daniel Boone that were used in television and the movies were known to be false in 1902 when the book was published.
I'm kind of shocked that he detested the famed 'coon skin cap' that was supposed to be his trademark.
