Generations of exercisers and athletes have struggled with the motivation to get out the door, to continue on tough days or to push through the final barrier of discomfort to the long awaited goal. This book describes the source of problems, how to diffuse them, with methods that can keep one motivated. The unconscious process of stress build-up often sends body and mind on separate missions. Galloway provides a series of mental training methods which can bring body, mind, and spirit into a powerful team. Each major area of low motivation is noted with proven ways of overcoming the problems.
Decent info, I suppose, just not much of it. this could have been a 10 page pamphlet. Full of product endorsements, very repetitive (to the point it seemed like copy and paste), and full of editing issues (missed words, missed punctuation, double punctuation). The tone of the book is also very holier than thou and my way is the right way. bAll that took away from the book. And there's only one small chapter on overcoming mental blocks and keeping motivated, when the title indicates that is what the book is about. Glad it was a library book. If I had bought it, I'd want my $18.95 back.
Good content and suggestions. Only issue is it’s too repetitive at times. Could have been shorter by 50 pages. But it’s an important read for anyone starting running.
Stay positive. That is how Jeff Galloway autographed my book. It may be the two most important words in the book. I enjoyed reading this one. Full of tips for being mentally tough and how the brain works. Full of tips on training. How the run-walk-run method helps runners of all abilities. It is not really a book to sit down and read straight through--although that is also possible. It is a book more like a cookbook. Try one tip. Master it. Try something else. A book to savor over time. A little too much self-promotion--but hey, he's earned it! Can't wait to see him again at the next runDisney event.
A beautiful book helping me work through some issues I had with the self doubt I had and the negative inner voice whilst I got to grips with starting and keeping running. Lots of tips about how to approach your training how to get motivated when tired, ill or injured. Good advice on trainers, clothing and what to wear with certain climates. Jeff writes a lot of good books, I am a complete fan on his tips and techniques, after all he should know what works because of his running career.
Lots of simple tips and tricks for the novice to get you through the training and the actual running of 26.2 miles. There certainly were a few pieces I will take away from this book for my upcoming marathon.
