They are an International elite unit created by NATO to carry out missions where no other could hope to succeed. A mix of Seals, Delta Force, British SAS and French, German and Polish SpecOps operators. Led by a former Navy Seal, Lieutenant Abe Talley. This is Echo Six. Even before they finish training a crisis develops that requires their unique and bloody brand of soldiering.
Hostages are about to die, facing execution at the hands of the scourge of the seas - pirates. The objective is inside Somalia. Al Qaeda has taken piracy under its control to fund their worldwide quest for terror and death in the name of Islam. Talley’s unit is hastily transferred to a nuclear carrier patrolling the Arabian Sea. Echo Six is to go ashore, kill the pirates and rescue the hostages. Exfiltration will be via the advanced, super-silent Black Hawks of the secretive 160th Aviation Regiment. Yet plans can and often do go wrong. And this time is no exception.
Fighting with an ill-prepared yet expert squad of operatives, Talley has to control the bitter rivalry of his own men as they close with the enemy. An enemy who is well equipped and well prepared for the coming attack. Behind him, his own commanders are riven by political infighting and personal agendas that threaten to tear his unit apart almost before it has got off the ground. And the mission rapidly expands to take in new and larger, more dangerous objectives. Echo Six:Black Ops is an exciting and bloodthirsty story of the fierce, no-quarters fighting of a NATO SpecOps unit.
Excellent story line, I found it a tad predictable in places but that did not detract from the enjoyment. Well written, all action and fabulous characters.
Very disappointed as a fan of Eric Meyer I expected a good quality story, instead I found a cheap version of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. I didn't gel with any of the characters; the characters didn't like each other yet they were supposed to work as a team? Really? Just didn't do it for me I'm afraid.
Talley is a black ops specialist. Called upon to perform a daring raid even though his team is still in the middle of its training and even he is aware they are not a cohesive force because he single-handedly took down a terrorist group aimed at assassinating a general in an airport despite the interference of air marshals.
Fifteen-year-old Toby got the Meers family into this mess by steering his family’s boat North into Somali waters rather than East into the Indian Ocean. Not unlike the cattle rustlers in the state of Wyoming who owned entire towns Somali Pirates who were former destitute farmers and fisherman raid shipping in heavily armed fast boats and hold ships and their crews for ransom while controlling much of the countryside.
The author, Eric Meyer has written several black ops series. Containing both profanity and editing errors the book wreaks of having been cranked out to meet a publishing deadline. It is violent and bloody. His team members are macho and undisciplined. And he is faced with his own prejudices when a beautiful woman joins his team.
Getting his “wick wet” and saddled with another macho over-confident squad only further complicates matters.
And each missions seems to lead to another and desk jockeys back in Washington seem to get in the way of getting things done.
Very impressive start. The book kept my interest throughout the book. This book is one that I will be reading over and over again. This is the first time I have read a book from Eric Meyer but it will not be the last.
Very highly recommend Echo Six: Black Ops - Raid on Somalia five stars all the way. If I could, I would give more stars.
Fast paced and engaging military action. The characters are interesting and engaging, the action is nonstop. The premise of an international unit made up of the most skilled (and egotistical) military men from several countries is a big hook, and the writing does not disappoint. Tim Welch is more than up to the challenge of narration!
Another story by author Eric Meyer. Abe ,Care and the wonderful dedicated men of Echo Six with bravery love of the USA willing to die for their country. Wonderful exciting story
I was really hoping I had found an exciting new action series to read, unfortunately after reading this, the first in the series, I have most certainly have not. The reviews of this book over on amazon suggested it was going you be a winner, wall to wall five stars and comments of it's awesomeness ....ummm...emmm..no accounting for other peoples tastes that's for sure. So we have the best of the best in the special ops world. Really ? These clowns couldn't fight their way through an open door. The shoe horned in female can out fight, shoot, fly, take command over any of these highly trained special forces operators. According to the author that is. Oh and the couple of sex scenes in the book, I actually cringed in my comfy seat as I read them. Appalling, laugh out loud. The writing style suggested it was written by a teenager with very little idea on how to construct a sensible story.
If you give this five stars and claim it's a work of awesomeness, go see a doctor. I'm sorry but this was a terrible book. Oh wait, the cover looked pretty cool, shame the author spoiled it by writing words in between the covers :)
This is another good novel, which is the first of a new and upcoming series. I hope that the future novels are as good as this one, if so, I will continue to read more novels by this author.
