Incorporating a wealth of new material, here is the riveting story of the bombing raids that broke the back of Nazi Germany, praised as "a well-researched, highly readable account of a B-17 combat crew's experience ... excellent." (Roger A. Freeman, author of The Mighty Eighth)

A well researched book. The stories of the first American bombing raids, out of the reach of escort fighters were blood baths. The 2 Schweinfurt raids were just about the end of the American daylight raids with tremendous casualties. What I especially enjoyed were the Epilogues at the end of the book. The tables of each B-17 lost, the names of the crew, etc were excellent. Much information also in the Appendices.

A must read book for anyone interested in an unvarnished book on what it was like to be a crew member inside a B17 bomber and the hell that these men faced. It is not for the squeamish.
I only wish that some effort could have been spent on the ground personnel who had to patch the aircraft and crews together after each mission.

WELL DONE!
