Stripped Down: 13 Keys to Unlocking Intimacy in Your Marriage

Rate this book
"Stripped Down is full of practical advice on the most important human relationship we have on Earth. Tony & Alisa are the real deal! Their open and authentic approach to the topic of intimacy in marriage is refreshing in a world that blushes at the thought of having conversations around this gift that God has given to married couples. We believe this is a conversation that all married couples should have and that this book is a great place to start."
-Cliff & Stephanie Ravenscraft, Hosts of Family From The Heart at FamilyFromTheHeart.com

"As a life coach I see many people who have created strategies for business success. But those same people frequently have no plan for success in the most important areas of life. In Stripped Down, Tony and Alisa share clear systems and processes for being as intentional about success in your marriage as you would expect in your business. With no plan in place, your business - or your marriage - will likely fail. Don't take that chance."
-Dan Miller, author, 48 Days to the Work You Love, and Life Coach, 48days.com

Life is moving so fast at times that we lose sight of the romance, passion, and intimacy we so desire in our marriage. After 10 years of marriage Tony & Alisa lost sight of why they got married. Kids, work, family, and everything else were taking priority over their marriage. In September of 2008 they started the 60 Days of Sex Challenge. Little did they know that the experience would change their lives. The lessons they learned not only changed their physical intimacy in the bedroom, but brought dramatic improvement to every area of their marriage. Those lessons are all here in Stripped Down, an easy to read workbook that will help you bring back the intimacy and passion in your own marriage.

First of all, the title of this book is slightly misleading...it isn't just about sex, and each chapter covers a different type of intimacy that couples should have. The title might sound a little risqué, but the book is actually quite tasteful. I actually don't understand how the title relates much to the content of the book.

I read this book with my husband. It is based on Christian values, which I appreciated, and I gained several helpful insights. I think the DiLorenzos are reaching a lot of people through their book, website and podcasts. The book was an easy, quick read and I related to a lot of the things that the authors went through in their own marriage. However, there were some parts of the book that came across in a way that blamed women when they struggle with wanting physical intimacy. I think that all intimacy problems stem from issues that start with both the husband and the wife...and I don't think it cam be blamed on just one spouse. My husband listens to the DiLorenzo's podcasts, and he said that some things in the book aren't as clear. Their intention, according to my husband, is to get across the fact that neither spouse should be forced into doing something they are uncomfortable, and that neither spouse should withhold affection or intimacy to wield power over their spouse.

This wasn't my favorite book, but it does have its merits.

This book was fun because instead of being written by therapists, it was written by ordinary people telling about some of the ups and downs in their marriage, what they learned, and what works. It turns out that they are not totally ordinary people because they are authors, speakers, marriage coaches, podcasters, etc. But they are close enough to being ordinary people to speak about those same experiences of disappointment, boredom, and conflict that most of us have. Then they tell how they got out of those ruts.

Each chapter has some questions at the end to help me ponder what I have learned.

I read this to educate myself on marriage, since I am currently engaged. Very straightforward and some good ideas to implement. I like to research things to make sure I am fully prepared and fully able to take advantage of something and I think this book will contribute greatly to my future marriage.

Quick read (1-2 hours). Brief information + workbook style. I'm an avid listener to their podcast, One Extraordinary Marriage. This is an overview of that content. If you don't want to spend 250+ hours listening to the in-depth podcast, this is a good sampling of the bigger picture.
