Welcome to Starlight Resort! Where monsters will tend to your every need...
Needing a break from my demanding job, I book a stay at a monster resort.
When a rogue wave threatens to drown me, I’m rescued by a Kraken lifeguard named Zethe. The moment we get back to the beach, he claims I am his fated one—the one he’s been searching for his entire life.
At first, I’m not sure how to feel about his declaration, but the more time we spend together, I find myself drawn to him.
But my time here is limited and as my vacation comes to an end I find myself What would it be like to be fated to a Kraken?
Rescued by the Kraken is set in Starlight Resort and features monsters with both muscles and hearts. Each book is a fantasy cozy romance stand-alone, full of romantic fun with monsters, heat, and a happily ever after, and can be read in any order .

DNF @60% p94/162 Chapter 13(Rey) Ugh. This is sweet and all. But the formality of the dialogue and writing is just sort of boring me. It’s feeling like a chore to read right now sadly. I keep skimming over the pages because it’s just so formal and I feel like it’s trying a little too hard to be ‘romantic’ or something.
Wow. This book is absolute trash. The author can’t keep anything straight. Svea’s brothers name is Eli then it’s Zero. It doesn’t explain there is a prequel novella about Zoe and the Naga (Sage). You need to have read that to have any clue what’s happening and still there are massive holes in the plot even with the prequel. And I’m sorry, Rey is unconscious after drowning on the beach and her Kracken mate is having the time of his life monologuing about their life together and how he will have to be better in the future since HE LITERALLY LET HER DROWN. Not to mention the medical side of her drowning was painfully inaccurate and totally pulled me out of the book all on its own. It’s an alternate world/timeline but I could not suspend belief on how basic human anatomy works. Not to mention the writing is like that of a 5th grader. No chemistry. Bad word selection. Pure garbage. And I rate based on vibes. IPB? 5 stars all day. This? Fuck this. DNF at 16%
Great concept but it was too insta-love for me. I get it, it’s a short book/novella and they have a small amount of time to get to know each other but after day 1 they are practically in love and Rey has “friends” at the resort? Like, sorry I don’t make friends with people after meeting them one time. Also, aside from the initial “saving her” scene, nothing really happens. Idk, I guess I just wanted more. It is super sweet and low stakes so, ymmv but this one was a miss for me.
I loved reading about Zethe and Rey. They had INARA live with I don’t typically love but with fated mates you just go for it and they’re both so sweet and kind that you want them to win.
Live me some tentacle spice 🐙 and I swooned HARD when he called her his starfish. This was just fun to read. I’ll definitely be continuing the series!!!
I am a kraken, the protector of these waters, and I will not let Rey be claimed by the stormy sea. -Zethe😭 Absolute cuteness. What a sweet little novella.
The one thing this book made me want to do besides find my own Zethe, is book a holiday to Fiji. Those gorgeous resorts with a whole private cabana thing on the water - I mean it's not Fiji in the book but it is damn near that perfection. 🤔okay. I might need a vacation.
Plot/Storyline/Themes: I mean it's easy and unbothered and it's just what I needed after some stressful irl chaos. A hot kraken shifter and a curvy human get together in what can only be described as paradise.
Riddle me this though, is Zethe naked all the time? He has no legs because he's not a shifter with a full human form so is dude in his birthday suit all day?
Two Sentences, A Scene or less - Characters: Give it up for Rey the first human guest at Starlight Resort! How brave was she when she booked her trip? Just imagine it. What a cutie.
Zethe he's a protector😍 snd he's hot and sweet which is my favorite personality combo like the perfect bathbomb to soak in. Also he goes against the grain - a kraken lifeguard as opposed to the natural order of drowning prey and dragging it to the ocean floor for the devouring.
Favorite/Curious/Ludicrous/Unique Scene: ✔️A dragon in the middle of a storm at sea, shielding the Kraken and the Human as they make their way to shore. My heart swelled. ✔️Meeting Sora and the merfolk at the lagoon ✔️Sunset wakk along thw beach with Zethe looking for treasuresthe sea storm left behind.
Favorite/Curious/Ludicrous/Unique Quotes: 🖤 “We own the deep, the waters that others fear. It is in these depths that we find our place, our purpose.”(Zethe on being a Kraken)
Favorite/Curious/Ludicrous/Unique Concepts: ■ Orcs can't swim in this world👎🏼 ■Starlight Resort ■ Cool Gadgets: Vidtablet, SR bracelet

Rescued by the Kraken was a great concept but the execution was...not good. It was very insta-love and so sugary and cheesy my teeth hurt. The plot felt repetitious and so did the steam. The heroine was an air head and the hero was too beta like. You win some, you lose some.
If you love monster romances or this is your first monster romance, this book has kind lovable monsters in it, and makes you hope for the other characters to find their mates.
This book was a perfect little pallet cleanser between my dark romance reads! If you like mutual instalove stories then you'll probably enjoy this one as well. Conversely if you are looking for a story rich with character development then this isn't the book for you. The focus of the story is definitely more on the merging of two worlds than it is on the merging of two lives. Jade Waltz, if you are reading this, thank you for putting your book out into the world! I had a wonderful time reading it!
After reading Zoe and Sage's adventures, I had to seek out the author and follow up on this beautiful resort for monsters and eventually humans as well. Was not disappointed as Rey finds her own love story with a kraken lifeguard. Can't wait for the next release.
Rey is on vacation in a resort that isn't frequented by humans. The guests are far more interesting, they're monsters. Zethe is a lifeguard at the resort. He's perfect for his job. Who better to guard swimmers than a kraken?
This was a wonderfully sweet, low angst, brief but cute romance. No mean girls, no contrived drama, no deliberate miscommunication, just pure sweetness. It's a nice change from the glut of bully romances and dark themes currently flooding the market. Ugh. A very nice change.
This was a sweet monster romance set in a resort. There was little drama and it was just a nice romantic story with some very heated scenes sparser throughout the book. An easy and fast read if you are looking for something happy and hot to read. There is a prequel in “Beach Shots and Monster Knots” anthology that sets up the monster resort opening its doors to allow humans idea. If you are wanting some monster action with some sweet romance then this is that book.
Dnf after 38% no thank you. So basically I am done reading Jade Waltz. She is not an author for me. At 15% it was OVER THE TOP with dramatic responses. I mean it read like a really bad soap opera with these lines. Ugh.
Quick, cute, and insta-lovely After reading some reviews I now know about the prequel so I will be looking for that soon (hopefully it rounds out the world a bit more). I'm not a big fan of insta-love but Jade Waltz did a pretty great job with our couple here! It was a great palette cleanser and got me out of my reading slump! Definitely way too short. If it was longer, I feel like it could have been a 4 or 5 star read. But, due to the lenght, there was not enough time to get to know our characters. I will, however, be keeping my eye out for more books in this series (especially the physical copies cause I need these covers on my shelf. They are so pretty!).
If you're looking for a quick read in between your smutty adventures...check this out!
This is quick read, low angst, sweet and steamy summer resort monster romance featuring a 🐙kraken🧜♂️🏊♂️ lifeguard and a human computer programmer.
I highly enjoyed it. The story made me feel like I was enjoying a nice little vacation at a (monster) tropical resort.🍹 It kinda had a Hallmark romance feel, but with a few $3× scenes (like the 🎆firework🎆 $3× on the b3ach scene 🥵🥵🥵).
Who doesn't want to fall in love with a Kraken while on vacation?
Having read the prequel in the summer monster antho, it was nice to see Zoe and Sage had little cameos in this story.
I can't wait to see the Orc guard, Zero, find love in the next book. It looks like the grumpy catman that appeared at the beginning of the book gets to be the hero of book 3.
As much as the idea of the book intrigued me, the execution was poor.
They meet, immediately feel a connection (that's fine, they are fated mates and all) but to basically seal the deal, talk about forever, and move in together and abandon her job behind in 2 days is a little far fetched for me.
Also, Zethe does so much more to ensure Rey is safe, secure, and taken care of, and she doesn't do much for him in return. There is so much repetition it was hard to get through. I don't think I'll read more of the series, which makes me sad bc I had such high hopes after coming off of similar books.
Cute premise about the resort setting but everything else was just bad. DNF about 50% and that cause apparently I have a high tolerance for meh. The characters were barely one dimensional the writing was bad. It was all tell, tell, tell with the occasional show after we were told about it enough. Sometimes the smexy times make up for the rest of a book being awful but this is unfortunately not one of those cases.
And here is another super cutesy monster book I wanted to love but mostly just found boring. The insta-love trope has never been a favorite of mine and there was no real conflict here. It's literally just a cute romance between a kraken lifeguard and a human guest at a resort. Would recommend if you're looking for a quick feel-good monster romance with low stakes and a happy ending.
Cute world building but a very simplistic writing style with really formal language. This may have been a choice because of the unique world but came across as a bit stilted.
I'll be interested to see how the trilogy plays out. I think there is a lot of potential in the setting of a Monster resort that is just opening up to humans. Very Hotel Transylvania.
I loved the idea of the book. But it really needs a decent editing job. The mermaid going from Sora to Sona back and forth was really irritating. Somethings also felt a bit repetitive. Just needs a good edit and some tightening up and it would be an easy five stars.
Unfortunately this book wasn’t it. I thought it would be idk more exciting? Zethe is like a puppy who’s only desire is to please rey, which isn’t necessarily bad but. There’s literally no drama no toxic love no nothing. They just decide to be happy no drama no nothing. I like a book with obstacles, this just alluded to them.
This was just boring. The writing is very juvenile and there is a lot more telling than showing. I didn't feel I was actually watching the characters fall in love and everything was very easy for them. The side characters are completely undeveloped and nobody has any personality. There's potential here but this needed several more drafts.
This was a very good read as it has low angst and is all about relaxing and flirting (or more hehe).
I read the prelude to this book in the Beach shots and Monster knots anthology, so I checked this series out and I'm most likely going to read the next book of this series when it does come out!
This is only my second Kraken book and I love the tentacles. I love the resort and the world that is there. I can’t wait to see Zero get love next. I want to devour the whole series.
Expected a lot more spice, but was surprised it took until almost halfway through to get steamy. Even then, it is heavily romance. If you like cute insta-love stories then this is def for you! Not my cup of tea, though.
this was okay. it was a little too cheesy for my taste, as the cheesiness was almost cringy at times. i did like that it took place it a monster resort though - i would definitely visit it anytime!
