Worth the Wait

Rate this book
When a virgin frustrated by her nonexistent dating life asks a playboy for a one-night stand, can they really ignore their attraction after the affair?

After Tasha Smith is dumped yet again because of her virginity, she decides it’s time to stop saving herself for marriage and start dating like women in the twenty-first century. She sets out to find a man rumored to be good enough in bed to relieve her of the nuisance, but discreet enough to keep her request a secret.

Jared Patterson seems like the perfect candidate. Yet after one searing kiss, she wonders if she’ll escape a night with him unscathed. Jared’s job as a successful fitness instructor and entrepreneur has helped him keep a string of meaningless relationships from the east to the west coast. After learning the hard way that women can’t be trusted, he has no qualms going from one sex-only relationship to the next. Although Tasha is one of the few types of women he avoids—a good girl—the man in him can’t turn down her tempting offer.

What starts out as a onetime thing quickly turns into an affair neither want to stop. But when an unexpected situation drastically alters their relationship, it leaves them both asking if it was Worth the Wait.

Some writers know how to pack a lot of punch into their words, and Synithia Williams is one of them. I had Worth the Wait for quite sometime, and because I'm a little of a serial one-clicker, it got lost in the shuffle. And what a loss! I feel foolish for having been so late to the party, to be honest with you!

As the daughter of a preacher, Tasha Smith hasn't found being a virgin to be particularly problematic. Until now. Now she's staring down the barrel of turning 30 and can't seem to keep a relationship going once she's had 'the talk' with the men she gets involved with. The Talk basically tells them that she's saving herself till marriage and so there'll be no bumping and grinding. And in this day and age, to most men, that sounds a little too predetermined for them -- a few dates should mean sex, not conversations about holy matrimony.

So in frustration Tasha decides to "get rid of" her virginity, and to do it before she turns 30. Except who to ask? Enter Jared Patterson, an acquaintance who has quite the reputation. He's clearly not husband material and has the requisite . . . credentials. So Tasha proposes to him that he be the one to deflower her.

Jared, having known Tasha casually as the "good girl" he kind of works with, is intrigued, and aroused by the suggestion and eventually agrees to relieve her of her "problem".

I generally go into contrived intimacy storylines a huge skeptic, kind of daring the author to make me believe. I believed from the beginning in Worth the Wait. I could see how a woman in the 21st century could begin to see virginity as a hindrance to intimacy, given how highly sexual society has become. I was particularly convinced by Tasha's admission that being a virgin was kind of fun in the beginning because it set her apart from the average girl. As a teenager. But then adulthood rolls around and suddenly she's a pariah and a curiosity. I could fully believe she would want to have it taken care of quickly and discreetly, and that she would want to assure the man to do the deed that she wouldn't become crazy and clingy.

So all that remained was for me to be convinced that Jared Patterson, who is a little bit of a jerk when this book begins, would actually fall in love with Tasha. I was convinced. Mostly because this author doesn't have it happen overnight. Even after the sex, which he acknowledges was amazing (and the author's descriptions of it are pretty darned amazing as well -- vivid but not graphic, titillating but not vulgar), Jared holds fast to his preconceptions about women in general, and while he tries to persuade Tasha to continue their affair, he doesn't seduce her by pretending to want anything more than the physical.

I appreciated the backstory about Jared's distrust of women, but didn't need it. Some men are players because they are. They don't need some early trauma to bring it on.

Over time, we see how the friendship between the two develops, and then Tasha's feelings do as well. Jared, too, is falling in love but doesn't recognize it and what's worse, it makes him appear even more of a jerk, because he seems to all outside observers to want Tasha to fall for him, even though it's clear he isn't prepared to commit.

I loved the war inside Jared that we were privy to. Tasha defies every single expectation he has for how women act, and so he gets pulled in deeper and deeper, fighting it tooth and nail. I also loved how he was both hurt and humbled by his image among friends and family, most of whom believed she was too good for him. Nothing like seeing a player get his come-uppance.

For me the male voice was the most impressive thing in this story, particularly how the author didn't take the easy way out of having the hero immediately embrace commitment, even once he realized he was 'in love'. I found the ending to be a little RomCom-esque, but thought it might be this author's nod to the "Hollywood ending" that Tasha comes to believe cannot happen to her. But as a whole it had just the right balance of lightheartedness and angst that makes for a good contemporary romance. And at the end of the read, I was smiling, so what's to complain about? It doesn't get better than that, in this genre.

I was intrigued by the premise of this book: a young African-American woman whose been saving herself for marriage gets tired of being rejected for being a virgin ("Every guy she dated was either overly fascinated to find a grown woman who was still a virgin, or ran away as if she carried the plague" [6]), and so decides to get rid of that annoying virginity by asking a player-type acquaintance to relieve her of it. Minor celebrity author and fitness coach Jared fits Tasha's bill to a T; when Tasha proposes her plan, Jared, unsurprisingly, agrees.

But when Tasha takes issue with his change in behavior, from colleague to playboy ("You treated me with respect. That mutual respect was why I chose you. I can't do this if you keep treating me like another woman off the street"), Jared is a bit stymied: "In my life women fit into two distinct categories. The ones I'm fucking and the ones I'm not. I never thought you'd be in the former category, but once you were, a switch went off in my head. This is new to me. I don't sleep with female friends" (69).

Jared gradually learns how to respect Tasha, and to treat her like a friend, and the two sleep together. Tasha initially thought it would be a one-time thing, but she keeps coming whenever Jared calls, drawn to the hot sex. The two enjoy several weeks of dating fun. But when . Jared accuses her of doing it on purpose to trap him, and dumps her.

Good-girl Tasha is set in ugly opposition to Jared's last "girlfriend," scheming Monica, who offers "easy ass" and who turns out to be the one responsible for the events leading up to Jared and Monica's estrangement. The book's ending—with Jared declaring his love and proposing to Tasha in front of her minister father's entire congregation—may be all a category romance reader requires to feel comfortable that this couple will have a HEA, but without any real change in Jared (besides his realization that he feels far less stressed-out when he's with her, and his jealousy when Tasha's father asks him to step aside in favor of another suitor) to motivate his declaration, it's hard for this reader to be convinced that his fidelity will last much longer than the wedding cake.

Least favorite line: "What would she bring to the table now other than the fact that she was Jared Patterson's leftovers? What man would wan those sloppy seconds?" (66)

This book was worth the wait of the time the author took to write this wonderful book! This book was so good I could not put it down Tasha and Jared's love story was wonderful. When I read the synopsis I thought I knew this would be a cheesy love story but it is not. This is a well rounded very interesting love story:Yes Tasha picks her friend Jared to take her virginity how many books have you found with that storyline right? This story is really different and really good so much more goes on that it will make you mad , laugh and cry. When you finish you will say the same thing I did that I just finished a good book.

I adored this book. It made it to my keeper shelf for sure. Worth the Wait had everything going for it: good pacing, believable conflict, amazing hook, and excellent characterization. It was the characterization of the book’s heroine, Tasha, that put this book firmly on the keeper shelf. I looked up to her—found myself wishing I could be like her. She tackled serious real-life problems with a grace and strength I only dream about possessing. In the end, Worth the Wait was both entertaining and motivational—and what more can you ask for in a good read than that?

??????

Okay, am I the only one who feel cheated by the ending? I realize that this is a series and there will probably be some type of update of Jared’s and Tashia’s relationship in book 3 but that’s not enough. I had to read page after page of how he didn’t want to commit and then finally he changes his mind and it’s over????? Who does that? They spent 50% of the book at odds with each other then finally get back together and it’s over. We could have at least gotten a couple of chapters that included a honeymoon or something. Wow, that was such a let down!

Tedious

At 30 being a virgin is bringing all the wrong boys to the yard. An educated professional woman who happens to be a preachers kid Tasha is so pigeonholed she has no personality. Her choice to relieve her if her innocence is an equally stereotypical player. I was annoyed at all of the characters by the end of the book.
You get a HEA but know this isn’t going to happen.
Grammar and editing are well done. That’s the two stars.

My first read from this author and I really enjoyed it. It had it all super sexy love scenes, passion between Tasha and Jared, and of course the requisite family conflict. It was an interesting read from the first page to the last. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Sweet Story

Although I liked Book 1 much better, this one was still worth the read. The ending was a bit rushed. Luke the first, it was a bit repetitive and a bit far-fetched. I mean her parents were very naive and in their adult daughters ' sex life too much. To announce it to his congregation?? And did Tasha really need to disclose to guys she's dating that she's a virgin? Oh well. Just my opinion, but still worth reading. On to Book 3!!

Tasha and Jared...a cute love story

Though short, this story was very full. I enjoyed the love story. I liked both the hero and the heroine. Tasha wanted to rid herself of her pesky virginity before her thirtieth birthday, and Jared was the good looking playboy that she chose to give it to. I love a dramatic finish, which this had. Though I took off one star for the number of typos, I would definitely recommend this book.

Tasha Smith is the quintessential “good girl.” A Preacher’s Kid who has been taught abstinence all her life, and the golden rule of saving her virginity for the marriage bed since she was old enough to know what sex was all about. Her hope had been to find a man who wanted her for more than just a romp in the hay, to be married and start a family, but all of the above somehow manages to elude her. Angie, her sister and most of Tasha’s other friends have managed to find love and settle down, but Tasha is on the cusp of turning thirty and no Mr. Right is in sight. Well, she thought he might be when she goes on a date with Charles “Mr. Wrong” Worthington, who tells her that if she wasn’t giving it up, it wasn’t going to work out for him.

This date from hell is the proverbial straw that breaks the camel’s back. Tasha emerges from that experience determined to get the monkey of virginity off her back. She convinces herself that if she sleeps with a man and rids herself of her pesky cherry, she’ll be able to cross that hurdle and move on to find love and commitment. And Tasha knows just the guy to help her out of her little situation. Her friend, Jared “sex-on-legs” Peterson, is a man whose picture is next to the definition of “man whore” in the dictionary. He’s an Atomic Dog to the tenth power, and because he has such a wealth of experience, Tasha is certain his technique is just the ticket to provide her with a memorable (and exceedingly pleasurable) first time.

After some cajoling, she manages to enlist Jared to do the job, and they agree that no strings will be attached and this one-time occurrence will be the extent of their involvement. Now we all know what they say the road to hell is paved with, right? And good intentions abound, but once the forbidden fruit is tasted, all bets are off for both Tasha and Jared. A protracted period of indulging in a “friends with benefits” relationship stirs feelings in them both, and then things become complicated.

Never fear though, reader, because although we know kind of how this is going to go, Synithia Williams managed to throw a few curves in this cautionary tale. This story is about a good woman whose fatal flaw happens to be her naïveté, and a successful man who has trust issues that go back to his broken relationship with his own mother. Will their sexy, uber-hot journey of sexual discovery lead them to love, or will it ruin their deepening friendship forever? You must read to see how they get to the end of the journey, because I’m not spilling the beans.

You won’t be sorry you bought and read this wonderful book, because just when you think you’re going to be able to predict what’s about to happen next, the author throws a wrench in those thoughts and the story goes into a whole ‘nother trajectory.

I absolutely loved Tasha from the start, and despite his doggish ways, in the end I found myself caring for Jared just as much, even though I wanted to give him a swift kick in the rear on more than one occasion, he definitely grew on me, as I’m sure he will on you. The author’s writing is stellar and her style so straight-forward, I experienced almost none of the hiccups you get from a lot of the e-book offerings out there nowadays. Some of the dialogue may have been a tad clunky, but it was clean grammatically as far as I could tell, and superbly edited for punctuation and development.

I give Worth The Wait 4.5 Stars!

Worth the wait is a contemporary African American romantic read set in Columbia, South Carolina.

The story is about a young woman named Tasha, who is the daughter of a Baptist preacher. Tasha was raised to belief that sex outside of marriage was a sin and as such she had held on to her virginity in the hopes that she would soon find the right man to settle down with. After several disastrous dates she came to believe that her virginity was more of a curse than a blessing and as such she embarked on a quest that would ultimately change her life. At this point we are introduced to Jared, the consummate player. He was deemed to be the perfect candidate to relieve Tasha of her virginity as he was a no strings attached individual. The plan would have been perfect, except the unthinkable happen, they fell in love with each other.

Worth the Wait was well written story and very interesting. It kept me turning the pages as I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. It was very realistic and I was able to relate to the characters. The characters were developed in such a way that I was able to establish a connection to each of them. I was able to feel their pain, insecurities and triumphs.
Tasha was what one would classify as a good girl, the type of girl that Jared would not get involve with. Jared believed that women were the ultimate deceivers and as such he never stayed with one woman for too long. As such when he started to develop feelings for Tasha he was not able to handle it. Tasha is a very strong and determined female. She knew exactly what she wanted and had no qualms going after it. Jared was arrogant and thought he was God’s gift to women. Oh please! I had developed a love/hate relationship with Jared. His treatment of women was despicable. I disliked the way he that he assumed all women were the same and that none could be trusted. He only saw them as a means to an end when it came to satisfying is sexual needs. Then he matured and it became easy to like him and to be sympathetic towards him.

This story addresses the issue of what happens if one makes a conscious decision not to settle but to patiently wait for the right person to come into your life.
I had two issues with this story. I did not like how the issue of Jared’s previous lover’s deception was dealt with. This deception had an impact on Jared’s and Tasha’s life but it was just swept under the carpet. I also felt that the ending was a bit rushed and could have been better developed. Apart from this, Worth the Wait was a good read and was definitely worth the time spent reading it.

What a good book!!! I bought it yesterday morning and started reading it at lunch, then again on the Metro on my way home. I was supposed to come in from work, change clothes and exercise for about an hour, but when I tell you I could NOT put this book down! I kept saying one more chapter, just one more. I looked up and it was 8:15 and I was sitting on the side of my bed, still in my work clothes. That's when I know that a book is GOOD! From reading the blurb about the book, I thought I knew what would happen, but dang if Ms. Williams didn't take us on a ride to get there! Tasha was a sweetheart, and she truly did a number on poor, unsuspecting Jared. He didn't know which way was up! Loved it!!! I was unfortunately on the Metro this morning when things started to go south between them - eyes and nose just running! I know the poor guy sitting next to me thought I was crazy as I'm wiping my eyes and frantically searching for tissue in my bag.

I must admit, I doubted that Ms. Williams could top the desk scene from You Can't Plan Love (still re-reading that one!), but the first time that Tasha and Jared get together didn't disappoint. This one was pretty steamy, which is definitely a plus.

Interesting exchange between Shayla and Devin; wonder if they will have a story sometime soon? *fingers crossed*

Great characters, really good story, lots of heat - the makings of a can't- miss read. Keep up the good work, ma'am!

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was short, sweet and straight to the point.

What it's about
Tasha is a devout Christian who plans on losing her virginity on her wedding night but as she's about to turn 30 with no luck of finding 'The one' in sight (a girl's gotta do what she's got to do) she decides to just get the deed done and who better to do that than the town playboy Jared Patterson.
What starts off as a once off deal soon becomes more but With different personalities, trust issues and a stalkerish ex girlfriend, Can Jared give up his manwhoring ways for the innocent preacher's daughter?

What I liked
The writing was good. The characters were interesting and it was just a plain enjoyable read. Jared grew on me and I like the fact that Tasha wasn't a pushover.

What I disliked
Jared. He runs when the going gets tough. He's a bit immature and If he wasn't just a book character I wouldn't be sold on him. He was too much of manwhore to just change overnight.

Overall Worth The Wait was worth a read. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and it's a book I would definitely recommend.

The first time I read the blurb for Worth the Wait by Synithia Williams, I decided to buy the book on the spot and I am so glad I did. The concept of Tasha losing her virginity to a player like Jared (who was too hot for my own good) sounded like a disaster from beginning to end, and it was. The drama of the situation made for a great romance.

Tasha’s naïveté into going into a purely sexual relationship with Jared was understandable, if not weird considering that she had saved her virginity for so many years. Her plan would have worked if Jared hadn’t behaved in such a manner that was opposite his player status. Oh yeah, I must not forget the little twist that Ms. Williams planted to also destroy her chances of staying uninvolved with Jared. I don’t do spoilers so my lips are sealed.

The one thing I didn’t appreciate about the book was the emphasis on Tasha’s virginity, especially by her father. He made it seem as if his daughter's greatest accomplishment in life was saving her virginity. This annoyed me because Tasha had done a lot of great things with her life.

If you are looking for a novel you will want to read in one sitting because the story is good, the writing is smooth, and you need to find out how it ends, then this book is for you.

In Worth the Wait, Tasha is a woman who knows what she wants and she is not afraid to go after it. Jared is the successful playboy that is not ready for a woman like Tasha. Tasha, as thirty-something virgin, decides that she has been a virgin too long and what better way to lose her virginity than to a fine, experienced playboy. As the plot of the book developed, I could not help but think this cannot end well for Tasha and wonder just how juicy their affair would become. I found myself wondering if Jared was going to break Tasha’s heart, would Tasha realize she had gotten herself into a situation she was not ready for, or would they actually fall in love. Just when you think you have Tasha and/or Jared figured out, things take a turn.

The author does a wonderful of job of developing characters and story lines with great depth that keep you turning the page. Great second book from Synithia Williams! Great job of continuing and expanding on characters and story lines from the first book, You Can’t Plan Love.

Worth the Wait is worth the read!

Tasha Smith has been keeping herself for the man she'll marry someday. Except she hasn't found him yet and the men she has found don't want to hand around waiting for her to decide if he's "the one." So she decides to find the perfect one-night stand and get her first experience out of the way.

She picks Jared Patterson, whose fitness and health food enterprise has made him very successful in business and whose smoldering good looks have made him even more successful with women. But the one-night stand Tasha has in mind turns into something more. Something significantly more, it turns out.

Tasha and Jared are the perfect opposites attract couple. Which is, I think, one of Synithia Willliams strengths--her characters are likeable and real. You really care about them. And in this book, several of the characters from her first book, "You Can't Plan Love" show up for cameo appearances, which means I got to enjoy them all over again.

Good read. Keep it up, Synithia.

Really enjoyed this one! Loved the connection between Tasha and Jared.
Was enjoyable reading about them trying to convince themselves that it was 'only casual' and then coming to the realization that there was more between them. also really loved that Jared went out of his way to make the moment special for Tasha even though she wasn't expecting it. We saw both their struggles in coming to terms with the fact that they cared for each other. would have loved to see how Jared reconnected with his mother and her connection with Tasha. also would have loved to see how Tasha and her father resolved their issues. The end of the book hinted that he had come around but would have definitely loved to see a further chapter to resolve it. 4 1/2 stars. really great book.looking forward to more from this author.
