Rate this book
What would you do for the love of money? Would you have sex for it? Would you kill for it? Most importantly, would you betray your friends just to get it? Buttah, Honeybun, and Sparkle are three friends, who’ll do anything to make money, including degrading themselves and each other. Buttah, a five- feet, seven dime-piece from Chicago is down for anything for her love of the mighty dollar. Don’t let her apple bottom and baby face fool you. Between setting niggas up for money, and wild nights on the town, her life takes a turn for the worse when her life is put into jeopardy. Honeybun has changed her life around from being a hoe to a one man’s woman, but lately her boyfriend of three years, Nino, has been playing the field too much and she is tired of it. Now that she realizes she isn’t all he needs, she is forced into her old ways which might lead her to an early grave. Sparkle is out for revenge. She has a hidden agenda that only she knows about and nothing or nobody can stand in her way. What she fails to realize is that all plans don’t follow through. Together, the trio takes the streets by storm. However, when they bump heads, their friendship is put to the test. With money and men involved, who will stay on top and who will fall?

Firstly this is a critique of the art not the artist.

This book lacked imagination! The concept of the book is overplayed. Gold digging women plus fake thugs setting men up for their money? Oh yes the run of the mill drug dealer, Nino was a joke. They all were. It's like a low budget blaxplotation film in wriitng.

No one had a fire mouth piece so I can't overstand how they were able to put any licks in motion. Sex doesn't motivate every man into slipping to the degrees you had them. For instance that whole C-Lo diaster. Why would he take a stranger (Buttah) he just met that day to his trap house to retrieve a brief case (which you said suit case) and apparently go to the next spot to get it removed detailing the layout of his operation? He wouldn't. There is a certain level of caution or paranoia associated with people once they start reaching a certain status.

How did any of these men rise to financial glory being so stupid? Highly unlikely thus unbelievable.

A Chicago setting? I was sure I was gonna know something about this city that would make me feel like I visited too but the visualization was poor. I only knew I was there because you said so.

A glimpse into the characters....

Buttah wasn't a bad chic in the sense that she was a boss. She was a broad with no hands, no game and no substance. Even her kill scenes weren't badass. I know cold blooded, cut throat females and trust me she ain't one of them. And FYI, that rape scenario was weak. K-Dubb wouldn't have given her oral. Rape is a dominating and cruel act. There is no way that he would have placed himself in a vulnerable position such as lose needed leverage in controlling her movements. She could have snapped his neck, reached for a lamp, etc. But oh yes she grabbed the gun that was under the pillow. The same gun that was there the entire time before he even penatrated. Pow Pow. I could have died myself. None of the scences had good starts or follow through.

Sparkle was a dieseae waiting to happen b/c she never used protection. How foolish? I rather deal with a rash, the discomfort or whatever before I deal with that "Gangsta". Her scene with Juicy was laughable. How is she gonna get upset at Buttah and Bone for possibly creeping and then in the same breath sleep with Juicy's ole man IN HER BED? Then its wackness doesn't stop there. Once J-Boogie kills him, a few chapters later she is running in an alley, trying to get away from him, gets shot in the shoulder but doesn't get medical help? And if that was a dream then what really happened when she was in the room awaiting her destiny? Wait a minute don't answer. I'm sure that too won't make sense.

Honeybun was the lamest of them all. You may have envisioned remaking another Angela Bassett with this character by having her take everything that he owned but a real G would have stopped it before it began. So there is no way she would have been able to execute her poorly drawn scheme to sell off everything and then to drain the six figure bank account. But this is the killer she then decides to buy a purse? This small scale of thinking made me wanna pitch my Kindle at the wall. (Forgive me Kindle, I will just delete this off of my device) Give me that kind of loot and my mind is on investments, putting a down payment on a home out of town asap. But no she wanted a purse! Sad.

She doesn't stop there, she takes her lameness on the road to NY just to get popped by Money and when she comes home shortly after that she gets into it with Nino and his lover only to not make mention of the shot to her chest that would still have her in the hospital or was she shot with a super soaker? Otherwise I don't see how she had the strength or the will to even walk let alone tussle with Nino.

Long story short. It took me eight days to finish this. I only completed it because I'm not a quitter. My question as I read this was (Where's the creativity? Hell where's the editor???)

I have a GET or SH*T list to all potential readers. This falls under my SH*T list. Readers beware!

Shoney K. Your book has just been blazed!!!

Buttah, Honeybun, and Sparkle are 3 women that will do anything for the love of money. This includes staying in a relationship with a no good man for the money, sleeping with men that only have wads in their pockets, or setting up men to be robbed. Sooner or later these girls will learn that money is the root of all evil and they just may have to pay a hefty price to learn that lesson.

This was the first book by this author and I was truly impressed. The author kept me entertained from beginning to end and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. These characters were truly a mess yet I loved the drama that came with them. My only flaw with this book is the editing. While it didn't take away from the story there were still a few problems that were noticed.

I really enjoyed "For the love of money" by Shoney K. While it had a plot that I've read about many times before, I still couldn't put the book down. The characters really let money rule their lives they eventually found out that money is the root b of all evil. Even though I figured out the ending before I got to it, I still was shocked at the details and how it all came together. Unfortunately I never found myself identifying or feeling for any of the characters and there was also a lot of editing issues. Overall, it was an interesting read and I recommend it.

I enjoyed this book it took my mind away from the typical, drug dealing and stripper plots, so many authors are writing about now. It started off a little slow but once it picked up, I couldn't put it down! The ending was a SHOCKER
