I read this book when it was first released and found it enjoyable. However, as I continue to learn more about the individuals involved, I realize that their lives were far more complex than I initially thought. While this book provides a decent starting point, there is much more to uncover.
It always amazes me how God picks the worthless, the commoner, the nobody and makes him/her the spearhead of a move/revival that will take generations after generations after generations to forget. Robert Liardon weaving the demonstration of the spirit of God permitted by the sacrifices of men and the lessons that the upcoming generation can learn writes the only book every man/woman who has a call of God on his life should yearn to read. One of my greatest books ever.
Generals indeed! Love how the each life was assessed. Truly appreciate how God used each one effectively! May my life be used effectively to the Glory of God!
Another classic from R. Liardon. There are incredible lessons to be learned from the lives of these great servants of God. I enjoyed every time I spent reading this book and the stories it contained from that of Oral Roberts to the less known Charles and Frances Hunter. I recommend this book to every Christian that feel called to the work of the Ministry.
I don’t consider myself Pentecostal but I do believe that the Holy Spirit does continue to heal those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and call upon Him and the Father to heal them (I just experienced a personal healing on Resurrection Sunday!). This book is a wonderful read that is both educational and inspiring – even if you aren’t Pentecostal. I used to believe that these kind of faith healings are for those who were out to make a quick buck (and yes, there are those too) but these were men and women with hearts for God and for God’s people.
While I still have doubts while reading the book, to me, it seems as if there were a lot of tuberculosis going around (yes, I know it wasn’t treatable back in the day and it was and still is highly contagious) but I don’t doubt that God healed these people through His Spirit. I’m so glad that I got to ‘meet’ these men and women through this book who genuinely love(d) the Lord and set out to do His bidding even when the going got tough.

This book contains some amazing testimonies of some of God's most famous healing evangelists. A great read, full of lots of historical research and inspiring miracle stories. I had an opportunity to have Roberts Liardon as a guest on my radio show, "Divine Intervention" and to hear him tell his story first hand. He was a great interview, and very interesting. You can listen to the interview here:
I have read 3 of the God's Generals series. And I have enjoyed them all. This one really does stir up faith for healing both for the individual needing healing and for the ones who are passionate about bringing the healing touch of Jesus to the world. My favorite life story out of this selection was Lester Sumrall. I had never heard of the Hunters and everyone else I was familiar with. I'm glad Bosworth was in the selection I read his book Christ the Healer last week and it was by far the best book on healing I have ever read.
When I was a teenager my youth group did a study using "God's Generals" by Roberts Liardon and I remember it to now. So when I got the chance to read his new book focusing on the healing evangelists I was excited. Roberts is a master of history and bringing it to life. This book doesn't disappoint and I was very pleased to see that the series is continuing on. Excellent!
