A deadly disease sweeps across the world, leaving a gritty, dystopian society in its wake. The plague takes out adults, leaving only children, teens and early 20-somethings. The author builds a cringe-worthy world where the human race is slowly being removed from existence. Cities are abandoned, and people are dying and food is no longer available.
The main character, Jess, lives alone. With friends, Ian, Lucie and Molly, she set out to find The Promised Land. The characters begin to quickly evolve as their world devolves, setting the tone for a great coming of age/dystopian story. The author builds a world that will keep you on edge and also sprinkled in a bit of romance and friendship to soften the suspenseful setting.
Gangs activity, rape, drug activity and other crime would probably tip the young adult crowd to the more mature readers, but there is nothing really over the top. The book is intense, to say the least and kept me intrigued from the beginning. I look forward to reading the next installment. The author did a fantastic job of creating an original feel to the ever-popular dystopian genre. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

I was unsure if I wanted to read Broken Earth, some of the subject matter, depending on how it was written was potentially disturbing, but it was written very well. I enjoyed that this wasn't some fluffy story following the current trend. It takes what is a real problem today(our dependence on the earth's natural resources) and extrapolates it into one possible outcome. One where children are scared for their lives and responsible for themselves and their younger siblings. Jess and Ian are doing their best to do just that. Only with gangs running rampant and violence surrounding them it isn't as easy as it sounds. They decide the only way to be free to is to travel to the promised land...if it's real. I won't give spoilers, but I will eagerly await a sequel.

Brilliant

What an excellent story of the Broken Earth, and the destruction of it caused by the failings of the human race in their search for dominance and greed. There are great dangers faced by Jess, Ian, Lucie and Molly in their search for a better and safer life. A brilliant and thrilling book by Lee Ryder that drew my in and kept my interest piqued from the beginning, an awesome storyline and characters.. I truly recommend reading. Absolutely worth the ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+

I sometimes had difficulty following the authors directions, but the writing was so good and the underlying themes dear to me(motherhood, environmental concerns, and racial divides) , that I had trouble putting them down. the ending brings it all together. I willnot forget reading this book ever.

Broken Earth was an ok read for me. The premise was short and sweet, and the book pretty much delivers on showing just how Jess and the other survivors...well survived. The gangs were a lot like one nowadays, only filled with only children, as is the rest of society (since the adults all died from various plagues and illnesses. A world run and inhabited by nothing but youths...sounds enticing to be honest.

It was a pretty interesting book; the premise was one that I had often wondered about. Kids (well, teenagers) in charge of basically everything. I finished it in about two hours, and it was an easy read. Ryder didn't try and overload the book with words that sound like they were picked randomly from a thesaurus, which I appreciated immensely. It was a simple, fun read from a promising author.

This was a good young adult novel, but I would recommend for mature readers- although not graphic, there is reference to rape, sex, death/murder, and pregnancy. A plague/illness wipes out most (all?) adults leaving behind children, teens and a few people in their early twenties. The plot is a bit thin in places, and there is not a lot of character development beyond brief descriptions - this story is pure action and plot driven. There were some issues with the editing and redundant word usage, but I was caught up in the storyline and managed to ignore these minor errors for the most part. Great job of world-building, which is what brought this book out of the 3-star category.

A new experience

This book was a new experience for me. This is my first time reading this type of story and I must say that I was very intrigued by it. The title says it all. This story describes what happens after the earth is broken by gangs, sickness, plagues and death destroy everything and most of the adults. Children, teens and young adults are left behind to fend for themselves. Jess and 3 others have to use their survival skills to stay alive through all of their trials and tribulations. This is an absolute must read to find out all that they go through.

A plague hits and adults died and gangs take over the city o the 4kids leave thru the cemetery that surrounds the city will they make it out of the cemetery without the gangs finding them
