" No. You like that i'll give you a spanking when you deserve it, fuck you when you've earned it, take care of you when you need it. Am i right?" - Diego in Mi Carino - Risky Love
Muy Caliente, DAMN that Diego Andes! I love it!!!!
In Mi Carino - Risky Love Marcella Garcia meets Diego Andes an falls in love. Hard. Marcella Garcia is an Acquisition Director at an antiquities shop. She is the youngest in her field at 24, she is half black half Cuban. While out on the boardwalk at El Jay's collecting an antique from the restaraunt owner Juan Juarez; Marcella collides with Diego Andes and as they say "sparks fly" but the two go their seperate ways. After returning to her Shop she continues to think of Diego and he of her.
While out for lunch one day Marcella decides to go to El Jay's. While looking over the menu she is approached by Diego he asks to join her and the two get know eachother. During this conversation Marcella learns that Diego is now the current owner of El Jay's. At the end of their meal Diego asks Marcella to "join him upstairs". Marcella is taken aback she thinks to herself " i know he did not just proposition me"... But he did and she proceeds to tell him off.
Diego spends the week sending Marcella roses everyday until the Antiques shop is full of them. He asks for forgivness and a second chance. And she gives him one. Marcella is soon swept up in a love affair that will leave her breathless and often heartbroken. Diego refuses to open up to Marcella and that hurts her in ways he does not understand.
Diego Andes has experienced pain and loss in a big way at a young age. Revenge has brought him to Port Delgado and he plans to exact his vengeance. What he did not plan was to meet and fall for Marcella Garcia. But his closed off ways and controlling temper may just end the relationship before it gets a chance to grow.
Sienna Mynx brought it! I love everything i have read by this author thus far. And i swear that Diego Andes is the Colombian version of Christian Grey and Gideon Cross. With his angry temper, controlling ways, his inability to open up and his need to spank his lover.
My Ratings Characters- Lovable Writing Style- Savory and Solid Plot/Storyline- Good Overall- Muy Caliente! I loved it!!!
What a deliciously dysfunctional romance. Ladies and gentlemen, this is not your usual love story, but I still liked it. In fact, it seemed very realistic because the characters didn’t act like the usual romance characters—they acted like real people. They did stupid things. They were mean. They argued. They behaved irrationally. And it was okay because it seemed so real.
Diego is very alpha, rich, secretive, and tortured. For her part, Marcella loves him, but for the life of me I can’t figure out why—and neither can she. Sure he’s charming and rich and the sex is great, but she knows the relationship isn’t a healthy one. I felt like I was watching one of my girlfriends in a bad romance. I wanted to tell her, “Honey, pack your stuff and come stay with me for awhile. He’s no good for you.” But I knew that if I did, she wouldn’t leave, because Diego is just too addictive—and not in a good way.
The negative: Although the book ended at a good spot, I absolutely hate reading books that are not a stand alone series. I want to know what happens next. Right now.
So here I am, waiting with bated breath for Volume II, and it can’t be released soon enough.
Mi Carino is an interracial romance that is set in Seattle and revolves around the characters of Marcella and Diego. Marcella is a young up and coming art director who, after a bad relationship with a man who turned out to be married, decides to focus on her career until she crosses paths with Diego. Diego is a Colombian business man with a checkered and traumatic past, who had no plans to find a woman that would stay in his thoughts after only one short meeting, however fate had other plans. Diego is in Seattle for a short time in order to finish a business deal that he has waited a long time to conclude when a chance encounter with Marcella changes his immediate plans. Mynx gives the reader just enough back story for each of the main characters to gain insight to the motivation behind both Marcella's and Diego's reactions to their whirlwind relationship. Diego is definitely a dominant character and does not often give reason or excuse for his sometimes erratic and antiquated demands on Marcella as his lover Mi Carino is a quick read that will definitely leave you wanting to read book 2 to see what happens next.
Diego is a man with secrets, and a cold exterior. Marcella finds herself so attracted despite all the warning signs of potential disaster. Their chemistry reigns over both of their objections to this being more than a good time.
Sienna Mynx has a formula for creating alpha-holes that are irresistible to me. I should be railing against their douchebaggery, but find myself rooting for them despite knowing better. Much like most of her heroines. Diego is Dominant using BDSM techniques but never formally explains the relationship to his naive partner. He does not do anything too extreme to her physically but the mind games he plays without offering a safe word is very questionable. Despite that, this was a winner for me.
This book is moving alil slow for me and at times I can't bring myself to pick it up. Too much talk about her job. I forgot what I was readin at one point.
OMGoodness. It so got good. Diego is....wow. He is someone I would run as fast as I could to get away from; after the first time I hooked up with him. Bc he would scare the shit out of me. Not in a bad way, but in the away he did with Marcella. He would have been done with me bc me, submittin is something that just ain't happenin. I like Marcella and Diego and I hope they get back together. Latin men are not my thang but after readin this....I don't know. On to book 2.
I have read both this book and the following book in the series. They were absolutely awesome. Just the way I like my books. Dark, alluring, erotic, sexy tortured hero, multicultural, clever, intelligent, heroine who is not a whimper and does use her brain, other sexy and interesting characters.
I am not going to give a full review, but it was a riveting read. In fact I could not put either of the two books down and read each in one sitting and went to bed at 3.30 am and 5.00 am respectively.
No typos could be found. Excellent editing. Everything made sense.
I can only highly recommend that you get this series.
I love a spicy book that has some substance to it... I bought this book while in the middle of reading the prequel to this one, & I am so glad that I did! This book had just about everything: A Smokin' Hot Latin Lover, Smokin' Hot Sex, and Drama, Drama, Drama! Sienna Mynx has proven herself to be a writer that delivers. You will not be disappointed.!
The storyline had no depth, hot sex and expressiveness one-sided, possessive and revenge and. destructive obsession. I hope the second book has more depth than the first
Mi Carino - Risky Love (Mi Carino/Carina Series Book 1) In honor of Throwback Thursday or #TBT if you will, I am re-reviewing a book I read a few years back that was just sitting on my re-read list and I decided to give it another read to see if it was good as the 1st time, so here we go: Mi Carino is the story of Diego and Marcella. Marcella is an Antiques and Art dealer who just ended a relationship with a man she did not know was married and is a little gun shy about jumping in a new relationship. While meeting a client at a restaurant she literally bumps into Diego and sparks fly. Diego, a drug lord turned business man is in town only for a short time to wrap up business. He is a man use to having woman fall at his feet and submitting to his every whim. He does not share himself or his painful past with anyone, he only wants passion and pleasure with his women. When he collides with Marcella, he knows he will have her. When he propositions her on their 1st impromptu date she leaves him cold. Diego is at a loss, no one walks away from him. He quickly realizes she is not like the other woman he has been with, but he still wants her and what Diego wants he gets.Marcella soon gives in to her desire for this sexy Columbian and Things get hot really quickly between these two.As they discover and explore their passion for each other, Marcellas ex starts sniffing around. Diego does not take kindly to his advances on his Marcella and shows him.Getting a chance to see the more sinister side of Diego makes her realizes there is more to her mysterious lover than just a businessman which scares her. When she finds out she is pregnant, her fears may just cause her to walk away. I will start off by saying if you are looking for a romantic, lovely dovey book, this may not be the one for you. This is a great story that is more than just about love.Diego and Marcella are two complex characters that are not typical of your everyday romance novel hero and heroine.Diego is a true Alpha male and wants to dominate everyone and everything due to his very troubled childhood, but you could see his softer side and I just loved him.Marcella was a submissive but she just didn't know it,but when she did submit to Diego,Whew! It was worth it!.I loved the BDSM aspect of this book. Even though it was light it worked and for me it was an important part of the story.I am so glad I read it,again, loved it the second time around.Great Read.
I have now read the Mi Carino Series – I won’t give away the story. I know Kerry Fonville you did not like Diego much. I actually liked him and I was rooting for him the whole time. I am always for the couple no matter what and I am usually on the woman’s side but I found in this story I was for Diego all the way!! He needed Marcella to teach him how to love because he did not really know how to because of his past! He wanted her to teach him because he did not know how to love her the way she wanted. I liked Marcella but I felt she was hard on Diego with her exceptions of him. This is only my view I am sure there are lots of other views about this story, we all take different things from what we read.
Great series. Sienna Mynx is my author of the month and I would recommend this series!
Marcella & Diego walk into love unexpected. Neither wants love or commitment, just a fling. They are thrown into a love affair that's so addictive they can't walk away always coming back to one another. But Diego is dark and Marcella is scarred. Marcella tries to get Diego to open his heart to her but it comes too late and she must walk away. She leaves taking a piece of Diego with her, hoping to make a fresh start. Both are haunted living on memories of one another. Will they get their HEA? I'm going to find out as I begin book 2. The Spanish used in the book is bad and I noticed it spills over into the title of the series' second book. I picked the book because of its Latino foundation only to see that the language was massacred. Disappointed.
You will find mixed reviews for these books. Both part 1 and 2 were intense (could not put it down!, fast paced, and sexy! If you are looking for a sweetheart type of romance this not for you. Ms. Mynx has really given each character such depth, I found myself wondering about if Marcella's best friend and Diego's lawyer would end with a story of their own ( I hope so). Not any errors, thought out plot, just beautifully written. These where my first novels by Ms. Mynx. And she DID NOT DISAPPOINT! She has a die hard fan here! Well done!
I have became a new fan of Sienna Mynx. This book was impossible for me to put it down. It delt with un-adulterated emotions of the two main characters. Their love story is not pretty, and at times it's what I would consider abuse. In this story we witness how painful the road to a happy ever after can be. They are not a match made in heaven, they do not bring the best out in each other yet there is this something that keeps them together. This book is not for the faint of heart but will definately have you on emotional rollcoaster.
Diego is a complete asshole I don't even really care about his sob story of a life it's sad that Marcella put up with his ass I bet you that sienna couldn't even justify writing his character the way she did had he not been rich. I was also bothered by the Spanish sweet nothing's guess that's why I never really had a thing for Spanish guys.
I still gave this 3 stars tho for the hot steamy sex kinda reminded me of 50 shades only more believable in that Marcella is not a Virgin and less in that she really put up with him for so long.
As usual, Mynx is solid. The issue I had with this one is that I basically didnt like or understand the characters in terms of their actions. Neither of them. She gave too much early on and then when she finally should have forgiven, she didnt. He was disrespectful and paranoid to the point where things never really should have even gotten off the ground with them. Just...two unlikeable people itbwas hard to respect or root for. Personal taste.
And its a to be continued book, if not a straight up cliffhanger. Not my fave.
idk why so many people love this book, but I found the "love story" was not quite love. The story was boring and frankly I got fed up with Diego's shit. I kept waiting for him to appeal more as a hero instead of a jerk, but that never came. Had I been Marcie, I wouldn't have made it a week with him. Money isn't enough to make me like a bad male character.
I like this book a lot. It is not your typical love story. The hero is Diego and he is a complicated man. The heroine is Marcella and at first I thought she was just too weak, but the more I read, I realized that she is just like a lot of women. I think she is one of the most realistic characters that I've read about in a long time. She is a strong woman in her own right, but this particular man brings out weakness in her. She likes being submissive to him, and it changes her.
Marcella and Diego meet briefly when they run into each other at a restaurant where she was doing some business and I guess he was too. He is so gangsta that's its hard to tell what he's doing. Marcella is a normal woman who works at a museum or some place like that. They are immediately attracted to each other. One thing leads to another and she is in love with this handsome, complicated man, but he gives her nothing in return but sex. Being a normal woman who wants love and a relationship, Diego hurts Marcella at every turn. He loves her too, but he cannot admit it to himself and especially not to her.
Diego keeps breaking Marcella's heart and she goes back as soon as he touches her. It's frustrating to read, but I think this is a common thing for some women to do. Not all women, of course, but a lot of them return to relationships like this. He did something to her at the office in the warehouse that gave her an opportunity to be strong, but she couldn't do it. The sex won out again. I was disappointed in her. The more I read, the more my heart broke for them both. Diego has issues that make him very scary which makes this book exciting.
Anyway, make sure to check this one out. Sienna Mynx doesn't disappoint. I am on to the next book in this series. I cannot wait to see what crazy Diego does next.
I had to take some time to think after finishing this book because it is certainly unlike anything I have personally read. It was impossible for me to put it down…It’s like I was caught in a whirlwind sometimes it was dark, unpleasant, sometimes it made me mad, yet I HAD TO KNOW more!! It starts out as a typical boy meets girl story and then things move so fast both Marcella and Diego end up in a “relationship” that I could describe as obsessive, unhealthy and just plain crazy. Sometimes things seemed like they were moving forward then it would hit a brick wall; Marcella always tried to address it but to no avail. Their arguments would usually end (unresolved) with a hot session the bedroom and they would carry on until they met yet another brick wall. It was basically their cycle. Diego is so emotionally closed off, selfish and controlling that he had me almost pulling my hair out. Marcella is just there…she’s kind of bland. None of the characters were particularly likeable to me yet I was interested with what was happening with their life. This love story is far from vanilla, and you ask yourself many times why they are together and why our heroine is in love. But then again, that is what to me makes this so real. It is unromantic, irrational and they are not together for clichéd reasons. They are not a match made in heaven, they do not bring the best in each other yet there is this glue that keeps them together and sex seems to be the only way they somehow communicate. It’s the first time I read a love story where I wouldn’t want the characters to end up together again. But I still applaud Sienna Mynx for her enjoyable writing style, the good editing of the book and finally for scaring the living daylights out of me...Now I’m scared of falling in love lol
Marcella Garcia and Diego Andes are like oil and water. She’s a professional employed at a Washington State art gallery. She is efficient on her job at acquisitioning rare works of art.
Marcella bumps into handsome, charismatic Diego Andes by chance after meeting with his stepfather, concerning ancient Egyptian funerary. Diego, a savvy businessman, with previous ties with the South American underworld, had taken possession of his stepfather’s businesses in Washington.
This is the most unlikely couple. Marcella is intelligent and emotionally resilient. She’s flexible and has rebounded from a former boyfriend’s deception. She is optimistic and has a small cadre of friends she socializes with. Likewise, Diego is sharply intelligent. Yet he is a product of a tragic past, which deprives him of sensitivity and leaves him distrustful. He is hot-blooded. And although aloof, he displays charm, and skillful manipulation.
The two become seized in a scintillating, explosive, sexual relationship. The relationship intoxicates both. Diego demands Marcella spend more time with him. Marcella yields and loses her bearing at work and with friends. He is not like any other. She is hooked. Subsequently, he too is captivated by the power of her enduring love.
But there is deception and tragedy. The antagonist is a venomous spider, Diego’s mother, Marie.
I would have liked more twists in the story. For instance, Garrett, Sam or Lance could have been deceptive characters. Also, as writers, we sometimes make mistakes in our prose. The editor literally crossed out extra words in the story. I am sure this was embarrassing for the writer. Despite this, I enjoyed the books as a guilty pleasure.
good: this book is H.O.T and full of drama, the lives of the two characters draw you in, and have you hooked on wanting to know more about the mysterious Diego. This man is unbelievably sexy, sexy with a lot of hurt and baggage from his past he tries so hard to deal with his issues but he is a truly broken man trying to heal deep wounds. He has fallen for this women Marcella, he wants to show her his heart, but he desperately needs time, show him that he can trust her with his heart. i found Diego to be unbelievably sweet, he was very dominant but very caring and loving at the same time, in ways trying to protect the happiness he's never had. This book is sweet, passionate sexy and full of drama!
bad: there were a couple editing mistakes, but instead of taking them out and fixing them, the words would be crossed out. now maybe it was just the kindle.. but i doubt it. The character Marcella really got on my nerves, i found her to be annoying with he wants. she seemed to be only thinking about her self and not so much the needs of Diego, the man she loves, despite the fact that she got out of a relationship, were she felt betrayed, you would think that she would understand her actions could be preserved as a form of betrayal. i actually found this character to be quite selfish in some of her ways when it came to the things she wanted and how she felt as well as pushy and very impatient, she was very stubborn and just kept running away expecting to be chased. which was also VERY annoying. Different parts of the book - more towards the end- reminded me of Sienna Mynx's book Adian's Game.
I truly enjoyed this book. Although I hated Diego at first, for being to controlling and overbearing. He grew on me and my heart really went out to him. Marcella was his match in wills and stubbornness. They had so much to overcome and his past was so abusively dark, its a wonder that he could feel at all. I have read about some despicable mothers in the past, however right now I think Marie holds the crown for most despicable. She got exactly what she deserved. You definitely had to respect Diego's gangster. There were so many layers that had to be pealed away to get to the heart of the man who was Diego, however I believe it was worth it. He loved hard and he never an anyone to teach him how to channel his emotions. I would like to know about about Lance and Susan's relationship. I was left with many questions about their relationship. Lance was even more emotionally guarded than Diego, although his temper wasn't always at one degree shy of boiling over. All in all it was a good read and I do recommend it, however if you read it you have keep in mind that Diego can appear to be very heartless, however his is also loyal and loveable.
I like Sienna Mynx and although I enjoyed the storyline it took a lot for me to really engage with the story itself. I didn't connect with the dialogue, it didn't flow for me. There was something about the style of writing I did not really enjoy.
Anyway critiquing the story itself I loved it my my Diego bueno bueno. Although if I had a man that treated me like that id be long gone. How can I describe him I have no words, all I can say is that one incident in his childhood moulded his upbringing completely.
Marcella (haven't heard that name before) is another likeable character. Although I am unsure whether I would have stuck around with all the nonsense Diego dished out. With that being said I was surprised she left after he made his revelation. I look forward to the next chapter I miss Diego and Marcella already.
My interest in multiracial/multicultural romances has piqued. Ms. Mynx is one of the authors in this genre who has come highly recommended by some of my FB friends.
I enjoyed this book. Diego Andes was off the charts hawt like fire. 100% alpha male. He is definitely a mystery, bringing hot Latin sexy back. His back story was heartbreaking and it helped me to understand him more.
Honestly, I didn't really like or dislike Marcella. She was basically a strong heroine. . .except when it came to Diego, that is. But who can blame her??
One thing I'm not sure I liked was the prologue that was a foreshadowing of things to come. It didn't hinder my overall enjoyment. It's just that I spent more time waiting for the other shoe to drop than I would have liked. Nevertheless, a great read by this author.
I couldn't put this book down. The author does a good job of keeping the reader on edge- hungry to find out what happens next. Diego was one sexy, frustrating man. His tortured past completely screwed him up, but Marcella was there to pick up the pieces. She is a very strong heroine that loses herself completely in her man without losing site of what's important to her and her happiness. This couple has many ups and downs which take you on an emotional roller coaster that will keep you up reading into the wee hours if the morning. I really enjoyed this book, although I feel some of the sex was just kind of thrown in as filler. Also, more editing is needed. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a little drama, heartbreak and hot sex!
The continuation of Diego and the responses he has to the continued separation from his lover, a woman who wants to be in a relationship with him but worries that his overwhelming need to be in charge will swamp her and take over her life. She is a gifted artisan and now the story is based in Paris and Italy. There were times I wanted to smack the heroine for her continued emotional weakness where this man was concerned and then the reader sees him rising the the challenge to be a better man. Yet there are disturbing portions of their story so it is not an easy book to read.
