Volumetrics is the most sensible diet plan out there. Fill up your plate with non-starchy vegetables, add fiber-rich whole grains, beans, and fruit, cut your fats and added sugars and you can lose weight without starving. So much food and flexibility. Two of my research studies and many other weight loss studies use the principles of Volumetrics (worst diet name ever). So based on that alone, I should give the book five stars. But I’m removing a star because there is nothing new in this book. If you have any of the previous Volumetrics books, you don’t need this one. One benefit may be some new recipes but otherwise, you're all set. I do, however, highly recommend this book if you know nothing about the plan. The explanations of the eating philosophy are streamlined and there are 12 weeks of menus to get you started. A great plan to lose weight and maintain that weight loss for a lifetime. Just wish the plan had a less clinical/hokey name.

A very reasonable weight loss program emphasizing greater quantities of vegetables and fruits. Not entirely plant-based but headed in that direction. Allows for more carbs and sugars than I would currently consume myself. Good recipe collection.

One of a number of very similar books on the Volumetrics concept. This one seems to be the best written, so don't waste you money on the others. Unlike most diet fads, Volumetrics is a sustainable way to change the way you approach eating -- it works!

Solid advice

Getting my blood sugars down effectively.

Just imagine there are no such things as processed foods. You live in a super slim and healthy country where they have not been invented yet.

You should eat like this even if you are slim.

Based on a 12 week change of eating plan, this book was only ok for me. I didn't have the patience to work through 12 weeks of minor changes before seeing any real results. The bottom line in this diet is to eat more foods that contain higher amounts of water while remaining low in calories. Also to eat more fruits and vegetables. I didn't need 400 pages to tell me that.

Good, basic diet/nutrition book. I like the idea of considering the calorie density of foods, as well as the volume in determining your food choices and how full you will be after eating. Sensible plan for life. Barbara Rolls includes lots of scientific study on food and eating, which is always interesting.

Not a bad read and a good plan

This isn't a terribly original way to eat but how it is scientifically explained is new. Usually this type of eating plan is labeled with a fancy name that describes more about the limitations of the food list rather than what is suitable for healthy eating. The science of this plan is the selling point.

Well written and easy to read. I read this because it was recommended by a friend although I am not sure why because I already eat a plant-based diet so most of it isn't news to me. I did find a couple of interesting recipes though.

Very good. Too remember to eat low calorie foods in volume is a very good idea. Enjoyed the book very much.
