Invasion America #4

Invasion: New York

Rate this book
In 2040, a shattered America squares off against the world!

Once, America was the most powerful nation on Earth. Then disasters rocked her: a sovereign debt depression, bitter glacial cooling and the greatest military invasion in history out of Mexico--by the Chinese and Brazilian alliances. Now the U.S. reels like a drunken giant. The military fought savage battles in the Midwest last winter, driving the aggressors from Denver, but unable to kick them out of the country.

Others have taken note of this, particularly as worldwide famine worsens, with global temperatures continuing to plummet. Like swirling vultures, the German Dominion decides to grab their share of U.S. soil to help feed their hungry peoples. They've shipped a deadly expeditionary force to Quebec and put a tactical genius in charge. He assures the Chancellor of victory as he plans traps within traps. But the genius hasn't counted on the American soldier: ragged, tired and angry as hell. The world is about to witness a battle to the bitter end as failure means mass starvation.

I was born in Canada and remember as a small boy crawling in my snow-fort. I closed my eyes, and when I tried to open them, they were frozen shut. I didn't panic, but wiped away the ice crystals, unglued my eyes and kept on building my tunnel. Those were great days! I moved to Central California before seventh grade and couldn't believe I lived in a land where oranges grew on trees and you could pick grapes from the vine.

I used to wonder what I wanted to do with my life, what kind of work specifically. I was miserable not knowing and bordering on desperate. Then one day a friend gave me his typewriter. I began working on a novel. A different person told me it was much easier on a computer, so I bought one and began getting up at 4:30 A.M. each morning before work, writing for three hours. My eyes were unglued once again as the pang of misery left my gut. I knew exactly what I wanted to do: write. So now that's what I do, I write, and write, and write, and I love it.

OK. I am not sure this war should continue, storyline is getting very repetitive.

This is the fourth book in the Invasion America series. I'm still really enjoying this series for the same reason as I was from the start. The story is told through highly engaging characters from both sides of the conflict. Egos and experience combine to make an action packed story.

Without giving anything away, I will say that there was one aspect of the story line in this book that made no sense what so ever - hint it involves German tanks. Even after finishing the entire series this oddity never was explained and completed. Because of this I had to give this book four stars.

Terrifying story, will give you nightmares

Excellent, so happy the main characters are still living through the battles. Highly recommend reading the entire series as I plan to do. I must say though the series has given me nightmares. Power absolutely corrupts, have witnessed someone who was a great supervisor get promoted who then became the worst person I knew.

This book was the most tedious we've seen so far. I didn't enjoy this book as much as the others

In the year 2040, the United States is but a mere fraction of the world power it once was. Instead of global warming, a series of volcanic eruptions have caused the earth to cool, causing the food supply to dwindle. The one thing the United States has going for it is the fertile farmland of the mid-west.

Invasion by China began almost a decade earlier, first trying to cross into Alaska. After being repelled their, they created a series of alliances that allowed them to try again years later through Mexico. The two armies stand at something of a stalemate.

In this fourth book, the German Dominion attempts to take advantage of that stalemate. Having been granted access to the North American continent by Quebec, which was trying to cede from Canada, they launch an offensive against the United States through the Great Lakes area.

As with the other books in this series, Heppner writes in great technical details. The weaponry the war is being fought with is quite technical and advanced. At times it works, at times it doesn’t. As the American President fights to not appear weak in front of all that is being thrown at him, he discovers the possible use for a weapon that was being tested that goes very much back to basics. There is intrigue there as well, as he attempts to hold off a possible coup by his advisers.

The fourth of five in the series, I think. Having read all of them, I can strongly recommend if you like details of battles and historical perspective all while realizing that none of this has actually happened (yet)...the story lines and the characters are engaging and I felt as if I should watch the news or check social media to see how everyone was faring in the midst of the invasion!! Great series. I enjoy Mr. Heppner's style and have read earlier series of his regarding pre-Noah, what might have been history books, as well.

This books is significantly better than the previous one in the same serie as the author seems to have taken to heart some of the feedback.
It's still not a literature hall of fame novel but I enjoyed the time I spent reading and had a hard time putting the book down.

This series is essential reading for fans of modern war stories. Think of Tom Clancy for the modern age with more of a concentration on several characters instead of just one hero.

Interesting premise, very detailed and well thought out. Evidently there is at least one more book which is not available to me right now. I look forward to discovering how this sage turns out.
