Dr. Charles F. Stanley is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Atlanta, founder of In Touch Ministries, and a New York Times best-selling author who has written more than fifty books, and has sold more than nine million copies. He demonstrates a keen awareness of people's needs and provides Christ-centered, biblically-based principles for everyday life.

Charles Frazier Stanley was born September 25, 1932, in the small town of Dry Fork, Virginia. The only child of Charley and Rebecca Stanley, Charles came into the world during a time when the entire nation felt the grip of the Great Depression. To make matters worse, just nine months later, his father Charley died at the young age of 29.

However, Charles refused to let the Great Depression or the difficulties of his life define him. Instead, like his father and grandfather before him, he clung to God’s Word and took up the mantle to preach the gospel to whoever would listen.

Dr. Stanley’s motivation is best represented by the truth found in Acts 20:24, “Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God's mighty kindness and love.” This is because, as he says, “It is the Word of God and the work of God that changes people’s lives.”

Dr. Stanley’s teachings can be heard weekly at First Baptist Church Atlanta, daily on “In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley” radio and television broadcasts on more than 2,800 stations around the world, on the Internet at intouch.org, through the In Touch Messenger, and in the monthly, award-winning In Touch magazine.

Ohhhh this book was so perfectly wonderful. Instead of talking about it, I'll just put a few quotes that spoke to my heart:

When we come to the end of ourselves and stand on the brink of God’s unlimited, unconditional love, we find that we have a greater appreciation for all of God’s gifts to us. Our hearts are renewed with thanksgiving and an awareness of God’s goodness extended to us…
Songs take on a new meaning; our singing takes on a new life. Our interest in life is rekindled. We feel freer to express ourselves creatively. We are more willing to take risks in communicating with others and in being vulnerable emotionally. The hardest parts of our souls break up so that we are quicker to laugh with gusto and cry with tenderness. We have a new ability to have fun—good, clean, pure fun.

When we feel assured of God’s presence with us, we are secure. There’s no greater security. God reveals Himself to us as our all-sufficiency, our total provision, our ultimate protection. That releases us from fear, pressure, and worry. It produces in us an abiding peace that cannot be described and an unspeakable joy that fills our hearts to overflowing, regardless of circumstances.

I occasionally listen to Dr. Charles Stanley on television, so when I came across his book, The Blessings of Brokenness, my interest was piqued and so glad it was because it truly is a little gem. I feel so blessed by Dr. Stanley’s insightful teachings helping me grasp a better understanding of my relationship with God and how He is continually molding and shaping me for His purpose. This is an excellent read for anyone, especially one whose ever dealt with brokenness, past or present.

A great book on what it truly means to be broken and why God lets it occur. It really uncovers a lot about who we are as humans and why we do things or don't do things. I would suggest to anyone (even someone who feels like they're in a pretty good place in their life) to read this. We all are sometimes not giving God our all, or trying to avoid things that we fear or feel like we cannot overcome. Please read!!!

I'm trying to get to a place where I'm not shocked everytime I go through a season of suffering. This book is a reminder that the suffering is for a purpose and calls it "the purifying work of pain." It's reassuring that there is indeed a purpose behind it all. This a good book if you feel alone in your suffering and wonder where God is.

A good spiritual guide for difficult journeys. The theme is to recognize that God's plan for you will require you to endure a time of trial, but you will emerge from the crucible stronger, yet more caring and empathetic than before.

Excelente libro

Broken or blessed

A very good perspective on how God can take the bad, the ugly, the pain in our lives and turn it and us into a Blessing.

Quiero volverlo a leer, subrayando y tomando notas.

God always provides a blessing through brokenness.

I am learning to view hardships in life as bridges to becoming what Jesus has created me to be. Changing attitudes from one of suffering through life's seemingly unfairness to resting on the promises of Gods Word that good will come out of it all. Sometimes we need to be reminded that Gods Ways are not our ways and that He is always in control in this world. Thank you Dr Stanley. You are are a blessing!

This book was an amazing book to read. It's really interesting how Dr. Stanley defines brokenness as something good and necessary for a Christian to grow within themselves. It was awesome to read about this brokenness and how you can use it to make your life better. I'm excited to see how I can use the brokenness in my own life to improve my relationship with my heavenly father and improve myself.

I can only say that it took me a year and a half to finish this book because it hit so spot on with what I was going through that it made me angry, frustrated encouraged, hopeful, etc. So many thoughts and emotions to deal with that I put it aside over and over again. It was extremely helpful to me during a time in my life that was the lowest I’ve ever been. I’m thankful for the healing that God has brought about using this book, among many things and people, to lift me out of a pit.

My girlfriend’s dad gave this to me after meeting him for the first time, a really nice gesture (hopefully he doesn’t think I’m “broken”). It’s pretty intensely Baptist, basically just repeats over and over to submit yourself entirely to God, which is not exactly how I view my relationship with the Lord. In any event, some meaningful snippets of Scripture and nuggets of wisdom to take from the book.

Encouraging and helpful

This book put life events in perspective for me. I was reminded of what I know to be true. Very worth the read. It may take you a while to get through it as there are many opportunities to stop, reflect and spend time talking and listening to the Lord. This book offers healing and is very encouraging.

This is the best book to explain why we suffer. Everyone at some point is going to go through difficult times. And this book will help give one peace about suffering. After I read it, I had the necessary perspective to recover from any suffering. This book after the Bible, affected my life in a powerful way.

Unlike modem boos that are “health and wealth” (eg God wants you to be happy rather than holy) this book really speaks. Most people have some sort of trauma or brokenness in their life and this book speaks to the whole topic so well. It’s well written and gives so much encouragement if you’re really struggling.

Choose God's best

No one would willingly choose the hard and difficult things of this life. However, when we realize that God uses those hard things to grow and mature us, and to trust God in the process, we will be the better for it.

Very good book for those going through a difficult time.

Life is full of difficulties. As a woman of faith, this book helped me see how these hard times can be looked at as a growing part of my relationship with the Lord.

Excellent book for anyone whose been broken before or whose currently broken. If you’re a Christian at some point you’ll experience brokenness, so I HIGHLY recommend reading this book. I finished this in a weekend!

This book is excellent. After first I didn't get the whole title and what it meant but after reading the book I know that when I am going through a rough patch God is pulling me out of that situation and the blessing is at the end of the cycle of brokenness.
