The Wizard is the third and final book in the Erlingue series, but unfortunately this book was not my favorite of the trilogy. After reading the first two books, I was thoroughly convinced that it was just going to be a duet, but to my surprise there was a third book added after the re-release of the first two books. Book two (The Crown) ended with a large, very well fought battle scene that left the main characters with an HEA. Because of this, I felt as though the story was complete and didn't leave the reader with any unanswered questions. The Wizard focused on the return of a character who we thought had perished at the beginning of the battle. With the return of this character, we got to see another side of the realm and where this character has been all this time. My main issue with this book was that it felt forced and didn't read as smoothly as the others. I would consider this a character spin-off, but the author decided to resurrect the foe previously slain. The main female character comes off whiny, rude, and unappreciative to have this person back in her life. All in all, the main enemy turns out to be someone they don't expect, so another battle ensues and the characters are left with another HEA. I was left feeling confused by this addition to the series. I also didn't feel connected to the characters and couldn't become invested in the story. Overall, this added book was just not right for me.
I was honored to be an ARC reader for this third installment of The Erlingue Trilogy. This third book starts off with a few shocking surprises. As Kat and Lucy’s presumed dead brother Aiden returns home. He somehow managed to escape the wrath of King Eric in book one and traveled to another realm. His long-awaited return is not as happy as he had hoped. Because he is now a Wizard and his sister Kat is terrified of all things magical. Who could blame her after books one and two, right? However, a new evil is rising, and it might just take the magic of her now-magical brother to stop it. This trilogy is a YA fantasy adventure. All three books are amazing and fun to read.
