Toki is not your average girl from the hood. She is not the girl that just wants to settle with the highest paid guy in the hood. Instead, she wants a piece of the action and make her own money. She has control of the family drug business while her brothers are away in jail. All is well until Qwan enters in the picture. Despite the please of family and friends, she continues to open her heart to him and give her all to him. Almost as if choosing personal over business at times. However, giving her all to Qwan proves to be the biggest mistake she ever made, but is it too late to get out of the relationship?

Latoya McCoy's debut novel Toki was an interesting read. While there were moments of the story that kept me interested, there were also some huge flaws. There were a few timing issues that had me lost on how much time had elapsed as the two scenes did not line up at all. Also there was excessive label dropping every time the characters were getting dressed. When it comes to labels in books, to me less is more. The main problem I had was that I could not figure out how the prologue fit into the story. When reading the prologue, I thought that it giving a hint to the end of the book; however, that was not the case. Due to this, I was very confused in the end. I am not sure if I will be continuing on with the series.

This was nothing short of a winner!! Latoya McCoy ain't nothing to be played with. The action in this book was pure genius. I was amazed at how it all came together and how well this book was wrote. I promise I didn't want it to end. I was surprised when the end really wasn't and it took you back to how everything played out. Qwan really messed up when he put his eyes on Toki. That chick was straight gangsta and he should've researched her pedigree before he thought e could take her down. I hated all Toki went through but that saying love is blind is the truth. Everybody can see it except the one who needs to. I can't say enough about this book-round of applause!
