Every book that I read from Sharel I find myself pleasantly pleased at the end of the journey. She’s a wonderful storyteller. I must say that this read will take you on an emotional roller coaster, especially if you have any sort of love in your heart. You will have emotions that are tied into that of laughter, and happiness for characters successes on the good side. On the flip side of that some of the characters will have you mad, frustrated, and disappointment with them. The characteristics of these characters are very real in that we all know of or have heard of someone like every one of these characters in this book. This story deals with real life issues. Issues such as marital problems and the fact that marriage takes work from both parties; domestic violence and how people will stay in domestic violence relationships/marriages; the power and the need for friendship, brotherhood, and/or sisterhood; and faith in God how that faith is often tested are all major issues addressed in this novel. What I like most about this book is the idea that if you stay strong in your faith God will pull you out of any situation no matter how dire it may be. He will deliver you from not only that situation…but yourself. Sharel wrote from the perspective of four characters and did well with tying all the perspectives together. Sharel took her time with the storyline, which was important for it all to make sense. In my opinion, if you like Christian Fiction, you will like this book. I highly recommend this novel…this is an awesome read!
Denise, Tonya and Lisa are the best of friends. They may not always see eye to eye, but they are there for each other when it counts. Denise has found the love of her life, or so she thinks, in Bernard. She soon realizes all that she has found in him is a violent drunk with a strong right hook. Bernard's violence not only wreaks havoc for Denise but also her ten-year-old son and her close friends.
Tonya and her husband, Gary, are a God-fearing couple that on the outside seem to have the perfect marriage. On the inside Gary's neglect has turned Tonya to another man and Gary's pride won't allow him to move forward in saving his family.
Lisa is loving life with her husband and new baby girl. Even though she's miles away in California she still has her finger on the pulse of the drama going on in her friends' lives and is only a plane ride away with a helping hand and sound advice. Lisa wonders will they be there for her if and when she needs them.
"The Putting Away" by Sharel E. Gordon-Love is an excellent story, well written and put together. There were a few grammatical errors and issues with word spacing; it didn't distract the reader from the story. I think anyone reading "The Putting Away" will be able to get something from it. For me, I came away with the importance of communication. Communication between friends, family, self and, most importantly, God. I give this story a 5. Well done!
"The Putting Away" is a book written with much heart and soul. Sharel E. Gordon-Love is gifted with a natural flow of enlightenment which is a bonus for anyone reading her work. This work of art is an amazing read because it blesses you in a very personal and significant way. I would love to see this book in Women's Shelters, on professionals' bookshelves and in the hands of anyone struggling to understand all forms of abuse. While reading this book, I gained better understanding of the emotions and mental anguish that comes with loving someone who literally will kill you. This is a very well written story. For sure a must read for those with a heart.
