Alyssa Satin Capucilli was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1957. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, and pursued her interest in dance, becoming a professional dancer and dance instructor. Though Capucilli had written stories, poems, and even puppet shows as a child, she didn't consider a career as a writer until after her own two children were born. To this day she sees herself as both a dancer and a writer, and the two professions complement each other nicely: dancing is, in her words, “telling stories in another way,” and readers of her children's books can attest to the rhythm of her language. Since 1994, she has written more than 15 books for children, and her work has been translated into French, Hebrew, Afrikaans, Greek, and Bulgarian.
Capucilli lives in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, with her husband and children. They have a chocolate Labrador retriever named Huckleberry, who likes to watch the author at work.
This was my first introduction to Biscuit, who my students love. I felt like the story was kinda dumb. It sort of felt like Sally, Dick, and Jane, but not as good. Not that "see spot run, run spot, run is great literature, but I like it better than this.
Biscuit is a popular children’s lit character who is so sweet and fun to share with children and emerging readers. Well, this story in particular is part of a board book series that brings wholesome, simplistic stories to babies and toddlers. What a nice way to introduce little ones to the cutie-pie puppy who can cause a little mischief.
I will admit this is short review, like a mini-review, but it’s a very short, uncomplicated story. A little girl takes her puppy to a pumpkin patch and tells him different things they are going to do with the gourd they pick out. Biscuit gets a little rambunctious and messy, but he finds a couple friends along the way!
So, straightforward story and easy read, but that is a perfect recipe for a baby board book.
This book was about a dog named biscuit who went with his owner to the pumpkin patch. While at the pumpkin patch, they had an amazing day learning about all of the different kinds of pumpkins. Biscuit even got to ride in a red wagon most of the time. He helped his owner pick up many different kinds of pumpkins until he helped her pick the best one. This book was super cute, I loved the hard pages of the book. This allows a baby to be able to grab and play with the book without drippings the pages. This book was also very informational about the different types of pumpkins to pick. I really enjoyed this book because it had tons of great pictures and she drew the dog to be very cute.
I would recommend this book for students in the early primary grades, kindergarten through first grade. I would categorize it as a modern fantasy book.
I used to love reading all of the books about Biscuit when I was a little kid! I love how they are interesting and a great book for beginning readers. I really like how there are many books with the same characters. This will help readers desire to read to see what Biscuit will do next. It’s a great fall book to incorporate into the classroom. It could be a great transition book to introduce a pumpkin unit, or a pumpkin lesson.
Wonderful book to read to preschoolers. It is not scary with goblets, witches, ghost, and monsters. It is easy for them to relate to fall and pumpkins.I paired the book with a activity for preschoolers. We made paper plate pumpkins.
Cute for very young readers. Biscuit visits a pumpkin patch and finds friends. There’s not a ton of substance here, but it is just enough for babies and young toddlers to listen along to. Illustrations are adorable, as all Biscuit books tend to be.
Attended audience is kindergartners. I would put this in my library for all the dog lovers in my classroom. This would also be a good book to read around fall time and get kids excited for the fall season and all the fun at a pumpkin patch.
