First of all, I love the cover of this well-written children's book. The colorful illustrations by Yuval Harpaz certainly add much pleasure to the reading experience and are sure to be enjoyed by its young reading audience.

Secondly, Tommy has a huge problem which is very common amongst young children. He is a young boy who is afraid of the dark. He sees shadows and lets his imagination run wild. Of course, his fears are most prevalent at bedtime and he is making every effort to get over them with the help of his parents. During the day, Tommy spends time trying to figure out how to catch the Murky Shadow that is so obvious at night. He is very resourceful in trying to help himself but appears to have little success in eliminating the Murky Shadow. After one particularly bad night, Tommy's dad decides to make more of an effort to help Tommy overcome his fears.

I think "The Murky Shadow and the Special Gift" is a wonderful opportunity for parents to address 'normal' fear of the dark situations with young children. I also think it will reassure children that there is nothing to be afraid of and perhaps get them to better deal with their fears just like Tommy did. Kudos to Author Yuval Harpaz for dealing with a very common problem in a delightful and creative way!

Have you ever been afraid of the dark or thought there were monsters that lived under the bed that came out at night? Perhaps your children do. Most children go through a period in their lives with this fear. This book is perfect for them. Perfect for you too because it is something you can read together and use to help them overcome their fear of the dark.

The pictures that go with the story are simple, but go well with the story and almost explain the story by themselves. The cover picture is excellent as it shows Tommy’s fear of the dark as the monster he calls the Murky Shadow.

I liked how the author gave control over the fear of the dark to the child simply by teaching the child he or she had the power over it with courage and the ability to turn on the light switch.

I think this is a good book to help children develop courage, self-esteem and understand that they don’t have to be afraid of the dark. I gave it 4 stars.

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.

Are you afraid of the dark?
Do you see murky shadows after the lights are turned out?
Well Tommy does!

At first his parents don't understand.

But after many sleepless nights his parents finally set out to help him.

Read how Tommy finds a way to beat his fear.

And along the way you will discover how he handles his emotions and learns about bravery.

In the end he gets not one, but two special gifts!

This book is great for beginner readers.

It can also help parents understand how to boost a child in learning about courage and self esteem.

The Murky Shadow and the Special Gift
Few colorful illustrations, children's book about a boy who is no longer afraid of the shadow and monsters that hide under his bed.
The author has also made a gift available to you in helping your child not be afraid also. Explains why the child was scared.
Interesting to learn what Tommy had done to get rid of the murky shadow.
Love what the parents guide Tommy to do on his own to get over his fears. Excerpts from the other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
Love gift IN the book that you can also get.

How does a little kid get over his fear of the dark? My friend Yuval took this one scary moment of his life and made a wonderful little thriller out of it. I liked it so much I edited it for him.
