I'm worn out from reading this. There's way too much daddy drama, damsel-in-distress drama and every other kind of drama you can toss in there. I get that the underlying issues were necessary but the delivery was way too angst-ridden and repetitive. I felt the emotional turmoil overshadowed what could have been a beautifully written love story. Honestly, by the time I got to the end of the book, I just wanted to kick both Alex and Patience in the butt.

What a dud of a book.

It is also book #2 of 3 of a series - however, this is nowhere indicated.

The beginning of the story is a confusion of events and characters (from book #1 of the series, of course). The story continues with an impromptu wedding, the consummation of marriage several months later, a kidnapping and a near fatal blow to the head.

With all of that - in addition to the hero having intimate relations with his new bride as she slept (yuck) - it was a dull, seemingly never ending read.

Of course, now that I have discovered it is part of a series, I will be reading "His California Countess" (Book #1) next and will be searching my basement for "The Texas Ranger's Heiress Wife" (Book #3).

As far as romance novels go, I really enjoyed this one. As another reviewer pointed out it is full of drama but personally I like a little drama every now & again, especially if it's in the book & not my life!

Not to much drama at all, and it was consistent. Great read. A few overly formal, corny speeches with/and a few modern terms which pulled you out of the story a bit but otherwise I really liked it.

At his 12th birthday Alex saw his father kill his beloved uncle. That day Alex was forced to grow up and learn how to protect his cousin Jamie from sure death. And he did so for many years, but now its about time to start new life.
Patience arrives on Alex's doorstep looking for help. So Alex takes her under protection. As they travel together he finds it more difficult than ever to keep his careless façade alive. Their love story starts to unfold, followed by impressive rescue operation, cowboy style...
Great story, enjoyed second part of the book way more than beginning, missed wedding ceremony in it. Sorry Patience's relationship with father haven't improved in the end. Didn't like the detail how she lost virginity, it was little too much for romantic novel. Rescue operation was fun. Overall I liked this love story, I will keep the book and will reread it again.
