Marie Rydzynski was born on March 28 in West Germany to Polish parents. She moved to America at the age of four. For an entire year, Marie and her family explored the eastern half of the country before finally settling in New York.
Marie swears she was born writing, "which must have made the delivery especially hard for my mother." From an early age, Marie's parents would find her watching television or tucked away in some private place, writing at a furious pace. "Initially, I began writing myself into my favourite shows. I was a detective on '77 Sunset Strip,' the missing Cartwright sibling they never talked about on 'Bonanza' and the 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.' before there was a 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,' not to mention an active participant in the serialized stories of 'The Mickey Mouse Club.'" Marie began to write her first romance novel when she was 11 years old, although she claims that, at the time, she didn't even realize it was a romance! She scribbled off and on, while dreaming of a career as an actress.
Marie was only 14 when she first laid eyes on the man she would marry, truly her first love, Charles Ferrarella. During her days at Queens College, New York, acting started to lose its glamour as Marie spent more and more time writing. After receiving her English degree, specialising in Shakespearean comedy, Marie and her family moved to Southern California, where she still resides today.
After an interminable seven weeks apart, Charles decided he couldn't live without her and came out to California to marry his childhood sweetheart. Ever practical, Marie was married in a wash-and-wear wedding dress that she sewed herself, appliqués and all. "'Be prepared' has always been my motto,"the author jokes. This motto has been stretched considerably by her two children, Nikky and Jessi, "but basically, it still applies," she says.
In November of 1981, she sold her first novel for Harlequin. Marie, who now has written over 150 novels, has one goal: to entertain, to make people laugh and feel good. "That's what makes me happy," she confesses. "That, and a really good romantic evening with my husband." She's keeping her fingers crossed that her reader's enjoy reading her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.

Excellent book. When his cover was blown Esteban was pulled off the undercover job he'd been working for three years. He's not happy to be working the streets again instead of going after the drug cartel and even less happy to be paired with the cheerful Kari. The attraction that leaps between them is even less welcome. He has spent the last three years keeping all hint of his emotions buried deep and he doesn't welcome their reappearance. He can't stop them and as he and Kari work on a case involving a serial killer she continues to chip away at his walls. He has been undercover for so long that he isn't familiar with the Cavanaugh way of doing things and doesn't know what to make of her attempts to get close. When she came to him the day they met to make sure he was going to stay on with the department he couldn't understand why it mattered to her. I loved his attempts to chase her off and his stunned surprise when she took him down. It didn't seem to matter what he did he couldn't chase her off. I loved his confusion about being dragged into the Cavanaugh activities and how he ended up having a good time in spite of himself. It began to open his eyes to the things he had denied himself for so long and how much he wanted her in his life.
Kari was a terrific heroine. She was very good at her job and able to work alone or with a partner. When she got paired with Esteban she could feel his reluctance immediately. She also recognized him as the guy she'd had a crush on in high school. I loved the way that she cornered him at home and challenged him to take a chance on their partnership. She felt their attraction immediately and was blown away by the kiss he gave her while trying to intimidate her into leaving. Their work together on the serial killer case put them together a lot and the attraction kept growing. When it reached the boiling point they were pretty darn hot together. I also loved the way that she wouldn't let him continue his loner ways but kept pulling him into the Cavanaugh circle.
The suspense in the book was fantastic as they raced to find the killer. I loved seeing the way that they tried to work out who he was and what led to their final decision. The intensity of the takedown was great and definitely kept me riveted.

I really enjoyed this book. Once Kari was able to break through Esteban's shell the two detectives were witty, and the banter back in forth was fun.
Esteban had worked undercover for many years bringing down a drug cartel. When a bounty was placed on his head, the force had no choice but to pull him from being a undercover agent, and place him as a detective. He did not take this new job very well. He thought of it as a demotion. He enjoyed working alone. The last thing he wants is to work with Kari. She talks way too much. I loved the way she talked him into staying with the police force.
Kari was born a Cavelli, but years later found out her family was really Cavanaugh's. She didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, so she went by both last names, with a hyphen separating them. Cavelli-Cavanaugh was a mouth full, so everyone knick named her hyphen... Cavanaugh was a big family, and most of the family worked for the police in one way or another. The family is close, and always welcomes new friends or family members with open arms. The party's they have are big, and fun. I laughed so hard at how Kari strong armed her new partner into attending her father's wedding. It was nice to read a book that made me laugh.
Both Kari, and Esteban needs answers. Before they can find clues, another body is found. They work out to connect the cases together. The suspense is really good, and the two work good as a team.

Kari and Estaban weren't the smartest bulb in the Cavanaugh box. They totally missed the biggest oblivious clue giving way back in the story. That disappointed me so badly, that I wasn't even going to finish the book. Why would I feel that way?? Because I have read ALL the books in the Cavanaugh Justice series and enjoyed them greatly. I was hoping that maybe just maybe the ending had a twist to it that would make me think A DUH, of course Marie wouldn't have been that easily figured out. I was wrong. Still the romance side of the story was as good as the other books.

This author works normally was solving the crime and the male main characters always had heavy burdens for themselves so female of Cavanaugh would brought them joy including invited them to the Cavanaugh Party. Twice already i had read about Cavanaugh with similar plot. But i love this story, because the main characters were very interesting.

The story itself was good. But again, Ferrarella is tripping.
Andrew Cavanaugh's dad who was dead came back and his name was Seamus. In this book he has become Shamus! Why? What happened?
Not just that, he has a long lost brother too!
Then there is Sean Cavanaugh who was dating Sabrina Abilene who becomes Diedre Callaghan in this one. Sabrina was Matt Abilene mother whose name is also changed to Matt Callaghan.
Why?
As far as the story goes (for this couple) it was good. Met in high school (not really met though). She had a crush on him. He remembers her too. Secrets and walls around the heart. And of course a serial killer out there to get justice for his son. Predictable? Hell, yes!

I like Marie Ferrarella and I like the Cavanaugh Justice series, but I have to say, how many serial killers can this town have before they stop referring to Aurora as a low crime small town? I feel like she's just kind of writing these using a "plug in the name here" formula, and I'd love it if she'd go back to the great characters and interesting story lines that I know she can write!
