Guvnors : The Autobiography of a Football Hooligan Gang Leader

Rate this book
'The most explosive book about soccer violence ever!' (Sunday Sport)

'Compulsive reading ... riveting stuff' (Inside Sport)

`As an insight into the mind of a hooligan, it probably won't be bettered.' (Manchester Evening News)

'A gripping read.' (BBC Radio Five Live)

For fifteen years, Mickey Francis and his brothers led a succession of violent gangs following one of Britain's biggest clubs, Manchester City. They fought scores of pitched battles with rival 'firms' until their bloody reign was brought to an end by the police Omega Squad in the most successful undercover operation of its kind.
Subsequently banned from every soccer ground in the country, Francis became the first of the hooligan 'top boys' to break silence. His story became an instant best-seller and is now a terrace classic.
Guvnors tells it like it was in the heyday of the hooligan culture.

The only reason I read this 200 page book was because it was one of the first Hooligan "tell-alls" but mainly it was from the perspective of a fan of Manchester City Football Club...my club. The book is written in the "This happened, then this happened, then this happened, then I..." etc. So it's easy as shit to read. The thing is, the guy doesn't really even care about Football/Soccer, he just likes to fight, and is good at fighting, and he is from Moss Side (by Man City HQ) so it goes.

It's still an interesting story, I think the Bill Buford "Among The Thugs" takes the cake as far as hooliganism books go. That one is a winner.
