As fear becomes the norm and people begin to process what has happened, questions of authority and outcries against violence toward "them" - the zombie-like victims of the "Murder Syndrome" - cause dissent among those not affected. However, trapped in the airport with thousands of flesh-hungry undead, Rika and her partner have no choice but to use every weapon in their arsenal if they want to make it to safety. But with neighbor turning on neighbor, nation turning against nation, is anywhere really safe anymore?

As someone that was originally introduced to the anime of HOTD, volume 4 of the manga was super interesting. It contains the first material NOT in the anime.

I think these was a very good manga, I like the story of all the characters and the decisions that they take. I do have to say, these manga has a loot of fanservice and maybe not all the people should see it or ready it but it had a great story. All the other girls in the story are falling in love with one of the may characters and the other one, like some of the people call him is kind of a freek that know a lot of thing of guns. He is one of the favorite characters for me because of his personality and the reactions he have when all the girls are doing things.

The plot of High School of the Dead is very interesting, Takagi is my favorite character, because I like her pink hair, and seeing her fight against the zombies is fantastic, she is so sexy!
Maybe it's not totally fair for me to review the series since I haven't picked them up in order. See, I pick them up from the library when they're available instead of buying (the price for each volume, as with most books these days, is a little steep for my broke self). Consequently, I get them out of order and sporadically and I'm not getting a complete picture of the series overall. But I can review what I have read and my impressions.
And just to be clear, I like manga, but I'm not a manga nut or anything. I can't keep up with western comics these days, much less what's going on in the Japanese comics scene. But I am a life-long comics fan in general.
The story was pretty okay. I enjoyed it, but there were a few things that bugged me. One, I think some of the script was kind of goofy and I think part of that was due to the translation, but I can't verify this since I haven't read the original Japanese. Many of the (English) sentences were awkward and this broke the flow for me. Two, I wasn't too hot on some of the silly humor. Personal taste, I guess, but I generally prefer a more consistent tone overall. The third aspect has to do with the art, which was good and less than good. Don't get me wrong-- the art was technically awesome in the individual panels. However I didn't feel like the panels always flowed well enough to convey the story smoothly and all the action was just too fast. I got a little confused at times.
But like I said, the technical aspects of the art was great. Especially if you're a gun geek and/or have a breast fetish. To be honest, the boobage here was just too much. I like breasts as much as the next hetero guy, but come on. Even the female zombies had enormous knockers. So while that appealed to the horny teenager deep beneath my horny adult exterior, I can't say that it helped me take the story very seriously.
Overall, though, it was enjoyable. I might not go out my way to read the rest of the series, but if I see some other volumes pop up at my library I'll be sure and pick them up.
Highschool of the Dead volume 4 contains chapters 13-17 and is a direct continuation of previous volumes. It's best to start at the beginning.
This volume has a nice combination of plots, as we see all established cast members and feel the effects of the larger world's panic and actions on the more immediate problems facing our protagonists. The harsh opening chapter featuring Rika at an airport helps reestablish the scope of the "problem." It's nice to finally see more than a cameo from her too. The remaining chapters switch back to Takashi and Rei's group at the Takagi complex.
There's a lot of strong story points among the usual harrowing action and gorgeous pin-up art. There are more casualties, revelations about Rei's and Saeko's pasts, and tough decisions and situations for several characters. Fitting the over-the-top nature of the series some of the dramatic moments are a bit overdone, but it all works in general and I continue to be impressed with the balance of action and drama achieved.
Volume 4 is more of everything that defined Highschool of the Dead's first three volumes, for better and worse. I personally think things are coming together well and that this manga is excellent for what it is.
Highschool of the Dead is where you get your zombie action. Fast and furious and intense. Nothing in this manga is for the faint of heart. I recommend this manga for those over the age of 16 for more of the sexual aspects registered within this series.
For those of you that are shonen fans, this manga is definitely for you. The amount of ammunition that these teenagers are packing is seriously something that you should all take a look at because its intense as hell! A wonderful and highly addictive series that brings you back to see who will make it out alive in the world succumbed to the wave of zombies.
This volume has been the best one so far. Far more action and story and less boobs and panty shots. Though the little storyline at the end with Busujima seemed super rushed and quick. I felt like there should have been more talking between her and Takashi about her "dark past."
Man... this manga series has been a let down. I really enjoyed the anime but the manga is just really sort of blah. I'll keep reading the rest because I have the giant color edition from the library right now, but I'm just not into it like I was the anime.
I thought that this book was awesome except for the fact that I don't know whether or not this is the last book. The ending left me a bit unsatisfied, and the anime was the same way! I watched the last episode of the anime and it was about the same place as the book was, even though the scenes were all over the place, it all became a bit easy to follow.
DAH! If there are more to this book, there better be more to the anime, I'm just sayin'!
The Takagi manor is infiltrated by the infected and the gang moves on to new territory. They find the same thing all over the city - hundreds upon hundreds of "them". Desperate to survive, Saeko and Takashi split off from the group to become distractions while the others move on as quietly as they can. How far will they make it?
It just got better and better. The character development and relationships are just to die for! And I love the personality of some of the new characters
I like HOTD when Daisuke remembers there should be some kind of plot, but I really do think it should be renamed to TITS AND ZOMBIES FANSERVICE ADVENTURE.
