Jess discovers that Sheriff Sam Davies has been murdered in Wichita. While on the hunt for the four men who murdered Davies, he ends up helping the new and unexperienced Sheriff Pickens deal with the lawlessness that has come to Wichita in the form of a brewing fight between two ranchers. If that wasn't bad enough, one of the ranchers, Ron Dawkins, hires Clay Finch from Montana to come and kill Jess, the mayor of the town as well as the inexperienced Sheriff Pickens. When things finally boil over, Jess finds an unexpected ally in the form of Jeremiah White, the lead man for one of the ranchers involved in the dispute that threatens to turn Wichita into a deathbed.

In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
Quick read at under 200 pages. Another no brainer Jess Williams western adventure. Some of the dialogue indicates Thomas also watches western movies. "Smoke wagon" and "Law dog" from Tombstone and "Critters have to eat too" from Outlaw Josey Wales.
Well another Jess Williams. Looking for the next one. I'll read all of them until they start charging. I have prime time. Can't see paying twice. I love reading his books. Enjoy thinking , what will he do next.JD
If you like Westerns, you'll love this series. Heck, if you like adventure, good vs evil, or just a wonderful story, then read them! BTW - I sure would love for Jess to go visit Hope again! Haven't laughed so hard in a long time!
Britain while still partially Celtic - the oncoming of Germanic Dark Ages ... of course I love this genre. I read all I can get. I'm presently writing Caledonia Ablaze ... so, good stuff to be found in this trilogy.
I'm a new fan of westerners now and one reason is because of Thomas's books.
This was another great story about Jess and his friends. Jess is the best and fastest shooter which makes others like him and bad guys want to come after him. I really liked the unique ways he devised to help settle a dispute between two ranchers. Thomas has a great ability to weave good plots with all sorts of emotions in them. He usually gives readers at least one good laugh per book. Well done!
Another great novel by an outstanding author, Robert J. Thomas. A thrilling adventure around every bend in the trail. When will Jess' luck run out? Or, is he really that good with a "hog leg?" The cemeteries are full of gunslinger s who thought they were better. Jesus Williams is on a mission to dispense with all of the cowardly cut throats who pray upon the in innocent. Jesus is on their trail and bell is coming with him.
The author went from book nine being more of a laid back comedic take to book ten back to the classic dark side of Jess. It as an enjoyable read but very predictable like the rest of the series.
Lots of foul language. Lots of killing. Main character either kills you or doesnt. So far there's not much mystery or plot otherwise. TTS-enabled. Standalone.
