Joseph Delaney

Joseph Delaney was a full time writer living in Lancashire, in the heart of Boggart territory.

He was the author of Wardstone Chronicles, Starblade Chronicles, Arena 13, Aberrations and a new book came out in April 2020, Brother Wulf. This is a new spooks story featuring Tom and Alice, but introducing a new character, a young monk called Brother Wulf.

He first got the idea for the Spooks series when he moved to the village where he lives now and discovered there was a local boggart - ‘a man like me needs boggarts around’. He made a note in his notebook ‘a story about a man who hunts boggarts’ and years later when he had to come up with an idea at short notice developed this into ‘The Spook’s Apprentice’, the first book in the series.

He continued to draw upon the folklore of Lancashire and has acquired much local knowledge over the years which he tweaks and modifies to create his fictional world. Another source of inspiration has been Lancashire's varied and atmospheric landscape. Many of the locations in the County are based on actual places in Lancashire.

In the early days of his writing career Joseph worked as a teacher at a Sixth Form College: his subjects were English, Film and Media Studies. He used to get up early and write every morning before work. That way he could write a book a year – which promptly got rejected! When the Americans bought the series he decided to give up teaching and write full time.

Prior to teaching he worked as an engineer in his twenties, completing an apprenticeship just like Tom Ward in the spook’s books.

Joseph described his method of writing as a process of discovery. He didn’t plot too far ahead and often didn’t know what is going to happen until he writes it down. In other words he made it up as he went along. He prefed writing dialogue to description, in which he said he is a minimalist and leaves much to the reader’s imagination.
Joseph had three children and nine grandchildren and was a wonderful public speaker available for conference, library and bookshop events.

The Spook's Apprentice, The Spook's Curse and The Spook's Secret have all been shortlisted for the Lancashire children's Book for the Year Award. The Spook's Apprentice is the winner of both the Sefton Book Award and the Hampshire Book Award.

"The hobble had limited the Fiend's power in certain ways."

The fiend is bound (barely) but it is enough to give Tom and the Spook a bit of breathing room as they figure out what to do next.

They must find a way to permanently defeat the fiend and much to the Spook's disapproval, Tom Ward thinks he will need to use the powers he inherited from being the seventh son of a seventh son and the son of a .

But before they could find a way to defeat the fiend, the Spook is lured by the promise of new books for his library. So many decades of knowledge was lost in the fire that the Spook is desperate to refill the empty shelves.

However, things go a bit haywire and Tom soon must start rescuing, and the more he learns about how to defeat the Fiend, the more he realizes that he will need to keep Alice safe...from himself.

Maybe it is just me, but this feels a bit like a filler novel. I know where the overarching plot is going and what hurdles need to be overcome and yet we are doing side quests with the Vampire God?

I still enjoyed the book, love the illustrations, it just feels like we are a dragging our feet with ending the series.

That being said - the offal pit? Shudder. I hated that. (it was so creepy!). I originally listened to the series and heard it as the "awful" pit - which was a adept description of it.

Wow. What a roller coaster it's been, the whole journey.
And now.
It's near the end. *Sniff*

It's.

Finally.

Gonna.

End.

Why???? *Breaks into full-blown sobs, shoulders heaving. Blows nose loudly into a handful of tissues, composes herself*

But I'm going to be mature about this. I was 11 when I started this series, and I feel like I've grown up with it, along with Tom, Alice and Old Gregory. All my old copies of the series are dog-eared, with spills from juice and coke from when I was younger, each and every mark a different memory for me.

It- It's just like family. *Sniffle, cough*

(Remember, you were gonna be mature about this. Think maturity, sensibility. Be strong. Like a rock. Yup, I'm a rock. Rock, rock, rock...)

WHY ARE YOU ENDING?????????

WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Another good story in the series and we're back onto the main storyline after the side story in the last outing but things never really grabbed me like some of the others in the series. It feels like the wheels are just spinning and we're not progressing a whole load towards the final outcome.

There is plenty to like; the good characters, the development of Alice and the realisation her strength is greater than Tom thought, the fiend and his tricks. But this and the last book could have been condensed into one book maybe and there would have been the same outcome.

I enjoy this series and I enjoy reading the books at the time but my enthusiasm for the series is slightly waning now and I'm not enjoying it as much as I was say 4 books previously. Only a few to go (and I've been warned one is pure filler) and I'm keen to see how it ends which is the main driving force for keeping on with these.

I debated between 3 and 4 stars, but I just get such a kick out of this series I went with 4. Every book has an original antagonist and always builds on the endearing relationship between the witch, Alice, and the spook, or evil being hunter, Tom. Once again the characters are great to read about, the story flows well, and I didn't want to put it down. The only weak points are the master spook, Gregory, and the threading storyline of the fiend. Gregory is becoming a bore and the fiend Judy needs to be dealt with and move on. But I'm finally finished with all 13 books in the main series and am moving on to the related texts.

3.5 stars...

The Last Apprentice series is like my go-to audiobook series when I'm not sure what else I want to listen to next but I know the story will be good and the narrator will be good because it's always consistent. It also never has huge cliffhangers so I know I won't feel pressured to listen to the next book like "right now." I've been slowly making my way through the series for a long time now and I like it that way.

In book 10, Tom is still trying to prepare to defeat the Fiend. They have his head, which has to be separate from his body or the Fiend can come back so Grimalkin has been trying to keep the head away from enemy hands until Tom can locate the third blade that he needs to defeat the Fiend once and for all.

This wasn't one of my favorite books of the series just because it was more of a filler story but it was still good. I'm just to the point where if they don't hurry up and kill the damn Fiend I'm going to find a way to do it myself.

I can't see how many have read this to rate it..I HAVE read it because Joseph is a friend and he kindly allows me a manuscript. I promote his and many other authors in the NW. His books mean a lot to me as they are so local and so damn good too. If the film makes a difference then sometime soon we all will go ..now I read that and it is truly a real alternative to all things magically wizardly. His 'County' is even better than Hogwarts 'cos it is 'Warts and all' a truly spectacular reinvention of 'local legends' (Pendle Wichcraft),arcane stuff 'pagan rituals and demi-gods et all' and mythology of folklore 'Seventh Sons' and 'reversing mirrors'
Then you get the triumvarate of characters that blend and clash and try and join to alleviate the peril and add in the ultimate 'killing machine' Grimalkin, the 'Fiend' and the earthy darkness of our 'County'
The pure pace and goryness of this latest will blow your mind. Joe has really got his mojo now and his trips to suss out where to set the instalments obviously are meticulously done, I envisage Todmorden being like a mecca in the future for 'Spook-ologists'

MILD SPOILERS!

I just started reading again (after hybernating for Hell knows how long).

this book is amazing, I had to sniffled like crazy because it's just heart-breaking, blood-curling, mind-wrenching, tragically lovely romance between our Dear Tom and the lovely Alice Duane.
I JUST CAN'T TAKE IT!
WHYYY? Delaney why??? they deserves to be married, have 5 kids at least and start a good life being a spook/witch.
but I guess, without the tragic thingy, I would have drooped my eyes out.
not really, this book is amazing even without romance.

I'm happy that Tom isn't as easily-trusting person as he'd been, HE'S GROWN UP! *insert heart-wrenching sobs here*
better yet, Alice and Tom didn't do those mushy moments, they're just you know, perfect.
I don't know about Alice, she's always been the best kick-ass in this series, but she's also too selfless and self-sacrificing kind of person. though Tom and Alice complimented each other (Tom rules by his mind, and Alice by her heart), but they're too responsible for their own good and sometimes I feel Tom is helpless, he's too following-rules kind of guy. I hope Tom can do something so Alice doesn't have to be sacrificed.

I can't take it if Alice dies, she's my favorite character!
but then, I always like tragic stories. whatever.

it's good that the Spook has gotten his senses, he's too damn ungrateful about Alice!

PS. I heard Spook's Apprentice is going to be filmed and I heard Ben Barnes is going to be Tom Ward. my thoughts?
.................
ARE YOU FREAKING HELL KIDDING ME? 30-something year old guy going to be a teenage 14 year old of awesomeness called Tom Ward?
did those people who picked Ben Barnes were dropped on their head or something? I mean, couldn't they pick someone like Skandar Keynes (he's my favorite cast for Tom Ward)? he's not too old and certainly good-looking and very Tom-Ward-like.
haaaah... I'm going to lose my brain if it's going to be like Eragon.

I have mentioned before my personal rating system which kind of goes 'stars for however I felt about that book.' And of course there is adjustment in this system for different genres as I tend to like books differently within genres and rate them differently for each genre. So my system tends to be very much a patchwork of up and down ratings. Now why am I beginning my review with this? Well I actually didn't have a reason I thought it would be a good thing to throw in there and test my readers...

No I joke! I put that in there to provide an indication as to how I feel about the entire Spook's Apprentice Series (also known as the Wardstone Chronicles). They're pretty good books, I've enjoyed them overall but I consistently give four stars merely because I do not like them as much as YA fiction like Percy Jackson, Mortal Engines or Ranger's Apprentice.

The plot of The Spook's Blood again delves into darker territory, following the idea I believe that most readers of this fiction started as younger children (say 12 or 11) and now would be 15/16, engaged in watching many mature movies and playing mature video games. This book features lots of blood, what else can you expect from a book that focuses on the conflict between the Spook and Tom and a vampire god. And the fact that it's called The Spook's Blood is no giveaway at all...

Anyway while this is a solid continuation of the series (and we are nearing the end at last) it's not exactly a ground-breaking entry. At this point things seem to be more or less serving the purpose of trying to bring everything to a conclusion. It's definitely only worth reading if you've gone through all the previous books. But if you liked them you'll probably like this book too.

The Spook's Blood is a medieval fantasy book.
The reason I read this book is because I had already started the series after being recommended it, and I just loved it, so I've followed the books and looked forward to the new releases for a long time.
The main plot is for Tom, the Spook's apprentice, to destroy Siscoi, the old god who the witches are trying to raise. He does this by persevering with hardship, the long nights and the horror.
Tomas Ward, a 15 year old who turns 16, is a Spook's apprentice, and being a Spook's apprentice means not having many friends, having people cross the road when they see you, having people become scared of you, but it's all for a good cause; to fight the denizens of the dark, the demons that cross through. I like Tom because I feel I can relate to him because I'm only a year younger than him, and I would never be able to do all that he does. I don't like him because he always thinks what other people would think of him before he does anything.
I didn't like this book because it was too short! It needed to be longer! :( And also because it seemed like the least action-packed book in the series. I loved this book because it was the kind of story I like; dark, creepy, gory and suspenseful. It kept me thinking, and gave me shocks at times.
The book was published this year.
Overall, this book is definitely recommended, more so to guys than girls, but yeah...
I give it a 5/5.

Wardstone Chronicles Book 10
*The Spook's Blood*
I feel it coming! The end obviously, what else? Delaney provides another great supplement to the Wardstone Chronicles, one that will surely hook you and make you realize where the series is going to end. The plot is absolutely amazing and we come back to Tom's PoV narration after the previous book. This was my first time reading the book so I was excited to read new things. And new things are what I got, a new region, new alliances, new enemies, new darkness, new threats and most importantly, a new Dark/ Old God, Siscoi, the vampire God of Blood and also the ritual to destroy the Fiend permanently. The end was unexpected and very surprising, something reader could have ever thought. I would really recommend you this book, if you have to finish the series and get satisfaction, this is a book that you should really not skip. It starts with a good recap of the past events along with character introduction and situation and progresses slowly in the beginning. Things really seem to be good and jolly in the beginning, but as you'd expect 'happiness doesn't last forever' is Delaney's Motto, especially regarding the Wardstone series. So, things go bad really soon as soon as we reach the third chapter. Its really saddening after all that Tom has done to see him so devastated after reading Mam's letter and misunderstanding about her feeling. But that is nothing compared to when he gets the news about the Ritual for the destruction of the Fiend and for that he must kill Alice with his own hands. The three blades, of which two Tom already has, namely, the Destiny Blade and The Bone Blade are also brought into light. And Alice has grown powerful, more powerful that I could imagine, even powerful than Grimalkin, obviously not in combat but in dark magic. She is a very useful ally in the book. The book highlights the issue where Tom repeatedly hears Mam's voice inside his head as she guides him, in the beginning as well as the end. After this, the book can be divided into two parts,
1)Getting into Todmorden, a town at the edge of the County
2) Ascension and Destruction of Siscoi, an old God
I would say that the latter part is much more better than the first one. The first one drags the reader very slowly and is not very attractive but introductions couldn't be given much better. It just adds to the storyline and gives an idea of whats to come. The town is planned well, mostly focusing on the people and the 'Transforming' house which is haunted by the strigoica spirit and its male spirit. This specifies that the book has a heavy Romanan influence with Roman witches, spirits, ghasts and Old Gods that threaten to infiltrated and darken the county, The real thing begins when Grimalkin arrives in the town, then things just get very very exciting that you can't wait to finish the book. The action and the combat scenes are just enthralling and full of excitement. Another thing I forgot to say, a new ex-apprentice plays a very major role in the first half of the book, namely Judd. He is ever helpful, but the cause of the 'Spooks' fake death. The talks with the Fiend, the ascension of the Vampire God, side quests including the retrieval of the boggart, the ritual to awaken Siscoi, the final battle and the gripping end which is just unexpected are the things that I like about the book. Let us speak about the characters. I no longer traeat the Spook as a major charachter henceforth, he is not much active in action nor does give Tom any 'important' lessons. By my point of view, Tom has already surpassed Old Gregory who has grown weaker and weary. Grimalkin, has become a major character and fights with new motive and spirit, substituting for the Spooks lack. As i mentioned, nothing is more powerful in the book than Alice. The dark artifices are also brought into limelight. Especially, the grimore 'Doomdryte', would influence the plot of future books surely. And even the three blades are required to carry out the ritual. Speaking of Tom, he is more mature, responsible, grown, strong and a hunter of the darkness. He does not cower and gets scared of anybody, thanks to his training by the Spook, Grimalkin and Arkwright, he has grown so much and seen things at such a young age. The book provides a very satisfactory point of view narrative which makes is so engrossing. It really ticks me off about the fact that at least one major must surely die in the end, that will happen at any costs and the darkness keeps rising, the servants of the the Fiend keep rising and substituting those who have been defeated. Even the boggart seems to be back and things at Chipenden are now settled but much more things would be happening in future, things I cannot imagine and would be a surprise for anyone. The encounter with the Romanian witches, the moroii, the haunted Roman spirits and ghasts (both male and female versions) , the dark Vampire God are so well crafted that it just leaves you fascinates and wanting more. This book is unique, ventures into unexplored areas, gives a reader a broader and a wider view of what's to happen in the future, contains strong gore, violence and a lot of bloodshed (Frequency has risen greatly in last 2-3 books due to which I rate them as 12+), provides a great story, emotional and relation building, change in situation, the coming of new generation, new Old Gods and terrifying creatures of the dark and illusion that one cannot bear to see. Paired with gripping storyline, combat, witty and economic dialogues, readers will devour this book. I would also like to add that the story was unnecessary made more intricate in the first half of the book. It is full of surprises and character traits that have never been explored before (i.e Alice's use of dark magic, Grimalkin's urge for using dark magic, Tom's maturity, Spook's degradation, etc, etc) Things are really growing darker and it will be a huge surprise to see how things end. The characters have been shaped very well and realistic, both the protagonists and the antagonists, I have almost nothing to say against the book. A real treat and delight to read which inspires us and motivates us to read more. That is the magic of Joseph Delaney. Nice Reading!

Even with the main story focused back on Tom, Alice, and the Spook, this seems just another filler book. It feels like this series lost its spark but it keeps chugging along with no end in sight. Book 6 was the last book that was actually good and since then the quality has dropped off significantly. I just read a review that I completely agree with saying how "it feels like the wheels are just spinning and we're not progressing a whole lot towards the final outcome." Book 6 was the last mention of Tom's family back at the farm but they had to be mentioned so Tom could be blackmailed but it's like the author forgot about them entirely and suddenly remembered that they still existed. Our heroes have the Fiend right where they want him and are going after McGuffins to get the weapons to finally defeat the Fiend and it's just so boring hearing that over and over again. I continue to dislike how easily Alice is using the dark when there was no progression to that happening until the author wanted it to suddenly happen in the 8th book. You can read more about what I think in book 8 in my review for it. There was a death scare but with the way the series was going I didn't much care. Anyway, I've heard the next book is filler too so not looking forward to that, but I guess I'll have to slug through that one now.

Lure of the Dead is the 10th book in The Last Apprentice Series. The series follows Tom Ward who is an apprentice to John Gregory. John Gregory is the County's local Spook, who deals with creatures from the dark. In this book, Tom, Mr. Gregory, and Tom's friend Alice (a witch) are back in the County after traveling to Ireland. The 3 of them had to travel to Ireland as refugees after enemies had invaded the County. The Spook's house had been burned by the enemy soldiers, and Tom and the Spook are working on restocking the Spook's huge library about creatures of the dark. One day the Spook gets a letter from a Romanian woman named Mistress Fresque. Mistress Fresque says that she has many books in her library about the dark that she is willing to sell to Mr. Gregory. So, the Spook and Tom travel north to Todmorden, to buy the books. It seems like a valid offer, but they soon find out that Mistress Fresque is a demon strigoica and the entire town is inhabited by strigoi (male demons) and strigoica (female demons). They are from Romania and are vampiric demons who worship the ancient vampire god, Siscoi. The strigoi kidnap the Spook but Tom escapes. They tell Tom that he can only have the Spook back if he brings him the head of the Fiend, who Tom has bound in a pit. The head is carried by Tom's ally, the witch assassin, Grimalkin. Tom calls on Grimalkin and his friend Alice to help him get the Spook back. Meanwhile, the strigoi and strigoica are trying to bring Siscoi into the world through a portal. If they succeed, then Siscoi will kill Tom, Grimalkin, Alice, and the Spook, and return the Fiend's head to his body. The only way that they can stop Siscoi is to kill the host body he is about to inhabit before midnight or all is lost. Tom and Grimalkin manage to corner Siscoi in his underground lair, and Tom, after a long fight, kills Siscoi. Grimalkin and Alice manage killing off the rest of the strigoi and strigoica to rid Todmorden of their evil, while Tom goes and rescues the Spook. After their victory Tom tells Alice that she must go into the dark to retrieve a weapon that could help destroy the Fiend permanently, but they don't have much time...

This book is very well written and I have no idea how the author has kept up such a great story line over what is now 10 books. The books just keep getting better and more exciting. I recommend this to anyone who like action and adventure and fantasy. This book also has ties to history in it as well. Overall, Lure of the Dead is an awesome book, and I'm looking forward to the next book in The Last Apprentice series.

I'm on my tenth one!!! :) Soon I'll catch up with Glam. :)

Whoa. One of the best book in the series. From 'The Dark Lord' to 'Strigoi' and 'Moroi'. HP and VA. Lol. The Spook's blood proved my hypothesis wrong. Since I, admittedly, have seen JP's question to Glam earlier (Yes, it was placed in a spoiler and I still read it), I was really shocked about it. I started to think that he's dead.

I actually didn't think that this series would add Vampires in their list of evil denizens of the dark. It is not the 'sparkly vampires' JP always said about Twilight. This vamps here are gross and really monster-like. :/ I don't even want to imagine them for the fear of dreaming it at night.

Oh! Earlier, there's this local show in my country that shows the old legends here. There's this psychic girl saying that this creature, 'aswang', as we called it, was warning them to stay ayaw from its lair or else it'll come to them. And they also have a drawn picture of it after the people in the neighborhood describe it. These aswang could shapeshift from black ominous cats to large dogs. The picture looks like a werewolf. Big and scary looking not like the fluffy Jacob of Twilight. >_< at first when I saw that TV program I jokingly said "You need the Spook and Tom Ward!" But as I listened more, I grew scared cause I remember my dreams about those creatures back when I was a kid. :/

And well, just saying. I believe in Angels and well, to those kinds of things too. Those legends are not just that. Maybe I've been reading a LOT of Spook's books. :O

Back to the review, although Alice annoyed me whenever she said to Tom that she did this and that for him to his face, I'm a bit concerned about what Tom was supposed to do on the Halloween. I pity Tom for having such HUGE responsibilities even though he's not yet completed in his apprenticeship. It's like the whole world is in his hands and it'll be his fault if he didn't defeat the Fiend. Easy said than done.

Overall, a well deserved 5 stars! The Spook's Blood just proved me wrong in a good way! I'll read the latest book tomorrow MORNING. Because Glam said that it is SCARY. And she doesn't get scared easily. ???

As expected from the wardstone chronicles, its fantastic!
when you read this book, you feel as if your inside it, exploring the world of Thomas Ward.
In Spook's Blood, you wouldnt guess what will happen next and it will give you lots of emotion at the same time. as for me, i feel sad, curious, relieved and excited at the same time. its like you scrying on a mirror and suddenly the mirror goes blank. Its as if Im Tom, Grimalkin and Alice at the same time. I feel the presence of the characters and the setting as well. Im happy to be able to read this book. Im proud that I became a fan of Mr. Delaney, I was devastated when I heard that this will be the last installment and a page turned was like a spear drawing nearer to my heart. Yet when I was at page 230 and I was wondering why there were so may things unsolved, i kinda worried that it might end unmercifully, i never thought that there would be a sequel. And when I reached the last page and verified that there will be, i did a happy dance :)))

All in all, its a wonderful experience with the spook and I cant help but ask for more. Theres so many mysteries lurking in the dark that needs dealing with.

PS. my fave part was with the Boggart! I know we all are :DDD

Another dark and fun adventure with Tom Ward but this time, he has to begin finding the weapons that will end The Fiend once and for all.

Grimalkin is still on the run, protecting the head of The Fiend from those who want to find and return it to his body. Tom and the Spook are approached by one of The Spook's old apprentices, Judd, who takes them to a town where the Spook can find books in a huge library to begin replacing those he has lost in the war.

However, things take an awful turn...and Tom, Judd, Grimalkin, and Alice find themselves battling some terrible dark creatures as well as a really awful Vampire God!

This one had some really surprising moments...especially one involving the Spook and I even got sad for a little while! Those who read this will know the exact moment I'm speaking about.

As always, I loved the moments with Alice and Grimalkin. They are two of my very favorite characters. And, we meet Judd in this one and he was a fun new character as well.

Really enjoyed this one and definitely recommend this series for those who enjoy spookier, darker middle grade fantasy.

E eu sou Grimalkin."

O MY GOD!!!!!!! This book omg. This book really scared me. I have had so many different feelings during this book. This was amazing. It's sad to think that this series is coming to an end. There are only three more books left.

well this was quick.

it was good. another spook's book. i just think it had a few repetitions that were unnecessary. like the phrase "the cold feeling a seventh son of a seventh son got to be warned that something dark will approach." i mean... it is the 10th book. we know this by now. and we don't need it repeated 83764287 times in a 200 page book. we got it.

also i feel like tom had a few problems with his emotions. like he switched his feelings very quickly HAHAH. but yeah.. i understand. i got used to it. i liked how he just went back and forth to the haunted house to help the spook and how he beat himself up for being a "coward" as if he isn't 15 years old and fights creatures of the dark on a daily basis. lol. i found that funny.

this was, as always, dark. and i like how the title is so deceiving. LIKE I FORGOT THAT THE SPOOK'S DOESN'T ALWAYS REFFER TO Gregory. but yeah. i also remembered a lot more from the other books.

i just think grimalkin was better than this. i liked the alice-tom moments though. and i found it so cute how he ALWAYS thought of her. like. always. "what is alice doing now?" "i hope she is good." "i miss alice". "my last thought was of alice". and then he is shocked to find out he loves her- like. dude. stop. we all knew this was gonna happen. also i feel like this is the longest SLOW BURN IN THE HISTROY OF BOOK SERIES. like damn... i am dying over here.

alice is as always amazing. loving her. grimalkin just a badass. and Gregory is old. and well. let's see what happens with the Fiend and i hope everything will end up okay.

i just feel like this didn't have that much action. that is all. but still fast paced haha.

alsoooo, bonus points for including romanian witches. AND OBVIOUSLY THEY HAD TO BE FROM TRANSYLAVNIA. like, i understand. and ofc the vampire God that is from transylvania. no judgement. i am happy to see "romanian" more than 5 times in a book. i find it flattering. *hair flip*

anyway. not much to say. i just missed tom...and i just realized how dull sometimes the writing is (compared to other writers) but somehow i still enjoy it. it is a childhood series after all. i want to finish it haha. and yet this is more of a horror-thriller book. and i feel like those points are so well-hit. i am impressed. just a different type of writing.

i am so excited to see what will happen.

bottom line: good! nothing rlly special

Nieodparte wrażenia utraty impetu i "odcinania kuponów" po spektakularnych i wstrząsających wydarzeniach z tomu 7. ("Koszmar Stracharza") i w zasadzie "pokonaniem" adwersarza w tomie 8. ("Cień przeznaczenia") nasilają się po lekturze 11-tej z serii powieści z cyklu "Kroniki Wardstone".

Razi powtarzalność, wtórność w konstrukcji fabuły (zło niemożliwe do pokonania, niewiarygodnie potężne, nieznane dotąd i niekonfrontowane vs. otoczeni pancernym parasolem ochronnym protagoniści), przeciąganie wątków spajających cykl, wprowadzanie nowych zasad rządzących światem, tak by pasowały do konceptu fabularnego tej powieści - to chyba największe wady najnowszej odsłony "Kronik Wardstone".

Throughly enjoyed this story. I loved the focus being on vampires and enjoyed learning the lore of vampires in the world of the Spooks series.

My heart was in my mouth half way through and I must admit, I had the most intense work out (listened to this at the gym) as my heart rose up and up and tensions in the story sored.

I loved how Alice started to separate from Tom and became her own person. It was refreshing to see that should disagree with Tom and take action against his ways, whilst still caring for him and doing everything with the best intentions.

Pick it up, give it a go & enjoy! >(^_^)<

I‘m not a huge fan of the plot line revolving around the romanian Vampires and the supposed threat they pose. While there were stakes in this book, they felt too easily resolved. I still enjoyed this book, but it feels more like a placeholder rather than a continuation of the overarching plot, save for a few moments.

This book is the 10th book in the Last Apprentice series. This book is really is about how Tom's adventure with his master, the local spook, John Gregory. This time, they have to fight the Vampire god, sent by the Fiend. I feel like Tom Ward sometimes because it is sometimes hard to do things without the help of your guardian.

You can be afraid, but don't ever give up to the dark. Sacrifices are required, never an easy decision, but that is Spook's life.
