WHEN YOU GO LOOKING FOR TROUBLE... Avery Price is taking her life back. Fleeing her uber-rich, overbearing family, and an arranged wedding to a wealthy, cheating fiancé, she trades couture for country and makes her way to Trouble, Wyoming. Going incognito gives her the chance to try things the old Avery wouldn't dare, like having a sizzling, no-strings affair with her sexy new boss, Noah McDermott-and discovering he's the kind of mistake she can't resist. Noah didn't become a successful business owner by letting people get the best of him. He knows Avery is running from something, and if getting the beautiful blonde into his bed is the only way to find the truth, well, he has no problem with that. Trouble is, Avery is everything he never sassy, smart, and the kind of understanding woman cowboys like him don't deserve. Can he put his pride aside and convince this city girl to settle down with him once and for all?
I started writing back in 2004 and six years later self-published the third book I wrote. Two years after that I landed a contract with Grand Central Publishing.
Now I'm just chugging along, spitting out books faster than my kids can turn my living room into a disaster zone...
Actually, that's not entirely true. I only wish it were true.
But in all seriousness, I write sassy and sexy contemporary romances for Forever Romance. My Trouble series is available online and wherever paperbacks are sold.
Looking for Trouble was my first Erin Kern book, but won't be my last. This was a very cute story. I loved it from beginning to end. If I had one complaint, it would be that sometimes the author tended to be really descriptive in parts of the story. I also, really didn't like the hero, Noah, being a smoker, but I suppose it made him more "human" to have at least one flaw. There was everything you look for in a contemporary romance in this story, passion and chemistry along with family drama and family love. A good read and one I would recommend.
Started out OK but went off the rails about a third of the way in. The plot disintegrated into a whole lot of navel-gazing. sigh Couldn't stick with it. DNF. :-(
I almost did not finish this book. Too much writing given to the"attraction" felt between the characters instead of the story itself. Heiress Avery find her fiancé in bed with another woman. Her parents think she is overreacting. She never felt loved by them or good enough. She packs up and leaves to be on her own. She meets Noah in Troublesome, Wyoming. It is instant attraction. But her fiance tracks her down and her parents overshadow her. She does not tell Noah her whole life story. She just wants to be Avery. Not the woman who is an heiress. Of course the truth comes out as her fiancé tracks her down. She must face Him, her parents and Noah.
This book was in a pile of books I was going through that I grabbed at a con. I love small town romances so thought I would give this one a chance. This one was predictable from the start, yet I still liked seeing Avery and Noah dance around each other, but I was more interested in Landon and Teeny. I'm happy that things worked out for everyone, but not sure if I will keep reading the series as this one was pretty average.
I loved the beginning of this book! I liked the rest too, don’t worry, but the beginning is hilarious! I mean she hits him with her car. How about that for a great first impression! Avery Price is trying to escape for family, cheating fiancé…pretty much her whole life. So, in great dramatic female character fashion…she heads off to a town with an awesome name! Trouble, Wyoming. (great, right?) If I was looking at a map, I probably would’ve stayed away from “Trouble” but to each his own!
Avery and Noah together are great! I think this book would be a great “beach read!” Also, I thought it set up really well for the second book, which follows one of Noah’s brothers! (I love brother series!) Overall, it was nice, easy read! And sometimes we all just need something nice and easy! haha
Cover note- They should update the ones on goodreads! The new covers are way cuter than the old ones!
**I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
New author. Cute story, although it took a while to get started. I'd give it a 3.5 stars. Looks like this will be a series starring the McDeromott Brothers. This first book is about Noah, the oldest, and Avery a rich socialite who's left her family to make it on her own. The other McDermott's look to be interesting reads. Cute secondary story about Avery's friend Teeny and Avery's brother Landon.
Will give the next book out a read- Here Comes Trouble about brother Chase supposedly due out 6/11.
I liked this book, but I don't understand what kept these characters apart for so long. When we finally find out the deep dark mysterious secret she's been keeping from him, I felt baffled as to why it had to be a secret. The avoidance dance of the main characters was torturous, but the intermingled stories between other characters in the book were interesting and kept me entertained. At the end I felt that everything was in its place, but couldn't really explain why I had to read so many pages to get there.
This was the first Erin Kern book and I say Where has she been??? What a cute love story! U can see there will be (or I hope there will be) a McDermott brothers series. How Avery and Noah meet is just so funny and cute and starts off this quick read in a good way. Avery and her family dynamics were likeable as was the publishing mogul father who has his eyes on public office. Now I move on to the next book "Here comes trouble" Be aware "Trouble" refers to a town in Wyoming!
I am not going to sugar coat this, this book has a lot of editing errors. Some were even a little distracting at times, which normally puts me off a book but thankfully the writing and characters were so good that I was able to move past the errors and really enjoy the story...
Cute read about a city girl who falls for a Country Cowboy. Nothing really stood out about this book. Has been set up nicely for the next book though. Unsure if I will continue the series.
Avery Price has decided to leave home after her parents demanded that she still marry Peter Hanover even though Avery found Peter in bed with his assistant. Avery explained that she wants her independence but her parents just refuse to listen. So Avery packed a bag and left not knowing where she is going.
Then she finds herself at a motel in Trouble, Wyoming. What will she do now?
Predictable romance formula covering all aspects of being in and out of love. In addition the characters cope with betrayal, control and establish independence/ new lives along the way. A book to fill a few spare hours requiring little mental effort.
It started off ok but I couldn’t stick to it. I ended speed reading it (skipping a few paragraphs, skipping pages!) Not sure why...could be the story dragged on, too many side characters...
This was a well crafted, well written story about the effects meddling parents can have on the lives of their grown children.
When we first meet Avery Price, she comes across as a spoiled princess, wearing designer clothes and driving a Mercedes-the one she uses to knock down Noah McDermitt. We soon learn, however, that she is struggling to ditch the princess image and stand on her own two feet. She decided this when she found her fiance in bed with another woman, and her parents insisted she marry him anyway. In an effort to escape their control, she has taken off and found herself in Trouble, Wyoming.
After knocking Noah down, she takes him to his car, and later finds he has left his wallet in her car. She tries to blackmail him into giving her a job. He tricks her, but she ends up working for him anyway. For his part, Noah has his own family difficulties in the form of a father who wants him to follow his footsteps into the restaurant business. As a successful contractor, Noah has no desire to be part of the family business, but his father is relentless in trying to get him to join the firm.
When Noah and Avery embark on an affair, in spite of the fact she works for him, both families find ways to interfere with their relationship. Can they overcome the interruptions, efforts to control them, and their own secrets to find their own HEA?
This is classified as new adult, and does contain explicit, though vanilla, sex scenes. Avery seems a bit old, at 28, to be throwing off the parental shackles, and she never completely realizes what it means to be on her own, as she quits her job before having a new one. In spite of that, she is a likable character and she does make the effort to quit being the spoiled princess. Noah is yummy, but a bit too quick to judge when Avery’s secret is revealed.
Overall, a fun read and an author I will try again.
*(I won this book through the First Reads giveaway section on Goodreads in May 2013)*
I've been in a reading slump lately; at first I thought it was the book, but really its not entirely at fault. For a romance, I actually enjoyed Looking for Trouble. I've stated it a few times that romance just isn't my thing but I'm willing to branch out of my comfort zone(s) from time to time. I almost gave up on the romance genre until I finished this book.
However, it should be known that I neither liked nor disliked this book. I enjoyed it, but it was still simply mediocre. There were things I liked throughout and things I could've done without. Also let it be known that I can enjoy a book and find nothing good to say about it.
Avery was too naïve of a character for me. I understand that she had been sheltered by her parents and everything, but there were some things that just went over her head that even a young child probably could've picked up on. The storyline with Teeny, at first, didn't interest me -- to add, it was also very predictable; I figured it out long before it was even brought to the reader's attention -- but I actually am interested to see where that goes.
There was a little section of "smut" in the book (let's not think Fifty Shades of Grey; just light sexual material) that I actually enjoyed and I usually get uncomfortable reading sex scenes. However, I think the relationship with Noah and Avery was just that: a sexual relationship. It started out as an affair and they fell for one another but even in the intimate moments where they were making a breakthrough with their feelings, it was ruined with sexuality.
I was more interested in the stories of Noah's brothers and their lives than I was with Avery & Noah. And for that simple fact alone, I'll probably pick up the next book in the "series."

Avery Price needs to get away from her family, their expectations, and her cheating ex-fiancee. After all, being the daughter of billionaire publishing mogul and political hopeful Darren Price isn't easy--she goes to Trouble, Wyoming with the idea of getting a job to support herself. On her first day in town, she hits--more like bumps--a guy with her car. This guy is Noah McDermott, who owns a construction company in Trouble. Avery visits his office, which is a mess, and begins organizing--Noah offers her a job, they get to know each other, and things happen from there....
I really could not get into this book--there were editing issues and I found the writing to be lacking--the main characters didn't seem to have any personality. They were just attracted to the way that the other main character looked, pretty much. I was intrigued by the RJ and Rebecca side story as well as the Landon and Teeny side story, but most of the main plot fell flat for me--there was no emotional connection or character development, as far as I could tell.
Plus, this book was decidedly not feminist--I know most romances aren't but whoo-hoo, this one was bad.
I had several issues that I couldn't get past with this book. The first being the horrendous editing job that someone did. Or maybe didn't do would be a better way of putting it. The grammar and misuse of words was distracting and extremely frustrating. Secondly, the length. This would have been a lot more enjoyable if she didn't go on and on and on and on about certain things. It was wordy and repetitive and there was no need to drag it out as much as she did. I honestly don't know why I kept reading. It took me forever and the mistakes were annoying as hell.
I will say that after I tried to get past the flaws, I did enjoy a few things. I liked Avery, she is not a typical heiress. Thank God. And Noak is just as flawed. Their chemistry was difficult for me to grasp in the beginning, but there were moments of tummy flutters. I think those make it worth the length and mistakes. Sometimes.
Avery Price grew up the daughter of an uber rich publishing mogul in an over-bearing family. When she walks away from an arranged marriage to seek out her own life, she finds herself in Trouble, Wyoming. Noah McDermott is a successful business owner just trying to get his family to understand he has his own dreams. But when these two collide--literally--they may just find themselves with everything they always thought they never wanted.
The plot was solid. The conflict was solid. The timing was solid. The setting and dialog and attention for detail was outstanding. But for some reason, I just couldn't get invested in these characters. At first, Avery was flighty and at times a little vapid. Noah just fell a little too fast. I wanted to slap both families. I did enjoy the little snippets of Avery's brother's story with Avery's best friend. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of her books, however.
Loved it! This was a great down to earth everyday romance with flavor. While most of us don’t come from families that have wealth beyond imagining, the thought of getting out from under overbearing parents is something that many people can relate to. Finding that sexy man that will make all your dreams come true… well that is just something every woman dreams about.
The plot was smooth and very deep. The characters were built well and the interaction between them was believable and real. The details of the book were well thought out and moved smoothly from one chapter to another. There was no where I felt she should have added more, or didn’t have enough.
I sincerely enjoyed this story and look forward to more of the McDermott men and Erin Kern’s writing.
Looking For Trouble is the story of Avery, a girl from a wealthy family back ground who decides that she needs her independence. No longer wanting to marry the man her family wants her to be with, Avery packs a bag and leaves to find herself. She settles in a small town that is nothing like the big city where she comes from. Not only does she find her independence, she finds love.
The characters in Looking For Trouble are well written and draw you in from the moment you read chapter one. I found myself glued to the pages unable to stop reading. There's a good mixture of laughter, romance and mystery all tangled up in wonderful character descriptions. I look forward to reading more of Erin Kerns books.
This was an ok book. The story was interesting, the plotting more than ok and the characters had me interested. What caused the loss of stars was--this was horribly edited. The author used the word AFFECTED constantly--and she usually meant EFFECTED instead. There were spelling errors, puncuation errors, paragraph errors. . . basically it was as if an 8 year old had done the editing. While I am OK with the occassional booboo, these were not occassional, they were everywhere.
Please Ms. Kern--before you release your next book (and I'm hoping for more stories about the families depicted in this book) get a new editor.
Cute story. Original story line with a very original way for two people to meet. One would think a person would want absolutely nothing to do with the one that hit them with their car. Not happening here and it's fun to go through the motions of how.
This book has good characters with a perfect amount of humor to go with it. I especially enjoyed all of the brothers! Nothing like a few hot men to get those imaginative juices flowing.
I would have given it 5 stars if not for the errors within it and the transition of chapters (some were not very smooth flowing). Over all good story if you can overlook those tidbits (I did).
What a great story; Very entertaining. A great cast of characters with what I would like to say can be many other romances breaking off into their own stories (hint to Ms. Kern)! Both Avery and Noah have life issues that shape who they are and both deal with issues that open a world that neither thought they could be a part of. I love stories that are real and Ms. Kern gives you that and much more in Looking for Trouble.
Such a promising story and a humorous writing style...cute cover, too (the original cover, it looks like it's been changed), but there were just too many mistakes in this book, like two or three on a page, for me to continue reading. I put it down and never went back to it. It was excruciating...I think Erin Kern is a talented writer and has a great future if she pays as close attention to the contents as she does to the outer package. The book I read was a first draft and simply wasn't ready to be published.
Avery Price had everything she ever wanted but there was one thing she always hated her parents meddling! She just had to get away from them and start some where new and fresh! Which just happens to be in Trouble, Wyoming where Noah McDermott lives! Noah is a very successful business owner who just wants his father to be proud of him. His dad is always trying to get him to run one of his restaurants. Noah has no interested in it through. The story line of this book was very interesting! Great read!
I was really disappointed as this has a good storyline but the spelling mistakes took away from that. This book and recently a few i have read really needed to be checked and checked for simple things such as spelling and scenes were in order when the book was finally put together. I had gotten this book from an author friend of mine who said to me " This is a new author see what you think". Well I will be reading the other books this author has written but there are only so many I will read with spelling mistakes then I stop.
Overall I really liked the story however, there are still quite a few errors splattered throughout the text. I didn't like how Peter's character was portrayed he ended up not being so bad after all. I really hated Avery's parents and it's quite unfortunate how she was treated just so her father could gain political connections. I loved how the author ended the book. I don't feel as though I missed out on something. Will I move on to the next book? Perhaps but author needs to keep an eye out for errors.
