This is a book I really enjoyed! Nicholas Adams came back to Falledge and it starts out saying that he hates the town and everything about it so I knew right away there was some history to be learned. We also meet Julianna Paige who is surprised to see Nick back in town and she has some pain she's dealing with. They meet at Justina's grave, Julianna's twin sister who died ten years ago. Their conversation doesn't go well and Nick tells her he's leaving town again. While leaving, he sees someone sneak into the laboratory and chases after him. At the end of the chase, he gets seriously injured and dies. He wakes up, expecting to see Justina (the twin who died) but instead meets Gavina, the witch who brought him back from the dead.

He soon learns that he's now a super man of sorts due to the black hellebore he had in his pocket while he was being brought back to life. His new strength comes in handy as he helps Julianna, who is now in law enforcement, to figure out who broke into the lab and what happened to him. They need to work together but is that such a good idea?

I enjoyed all the mystery surrounding Nick and Julianna. They each had their secrets and their reasons for keeping them from each other. They also learn that Justina had a secretive side and through the course of the book, they are able to learn the truth about her death. They are each in pain and find it difficult to completely trust the other one. I liked watching their relationship progress.

The superhero aspect seemed a little over the top to me at times but I still enjoyed it. The supervillain (named Skull Crusher) was creepy and scary and I felt myself cheering the good guys on to figure out a way to defeat him. There were some good interactions with him and he's someone I would definitely never want to meet. There are also some other good interactions with Gavina, the witch, and Ginny, the grandmotherly town gossip who convinces Nick to stay with her while he's in town.

This is a clean read with some mild swearing and violence. The ending wasn't a cliffhanger but hinted at much more to come and I'm looking forward to reading more about the Heroes of Falledge!

BLACK HELLEBORE was my first foray into the superhero world. While I'm not sure I'll pick up the genre as a whole, I will definitely pick up the next in Nicole Zoltack's Heroes of Falledge series.

Things I LOVED: her characters. They all felt real to me--something that surprised me for a comic book, super powered, paranormal romance mix. It was also a quick read. In my time-crunched life, it's refreshing to pick up a novel that's not heavy and deep, yet is still entertaining and interesting.

Things I'm not sure about: I'm too unfamiliar with the genre to really understand the nuances of it and to fully appreciate all the action and subtleties. However, learning these things via Miss Zoltack is something I am looking forward to.

Readers who enjoy fast paced entertainment with intriguing characters top my recommended list for this novel.

Thanks for helping me stretch my literary comfort zone, Miss Zoltack!

I read this at one sitting of two and a half hours which will tell you that it is worth the five stars I gave it. I look forward to reading books two and three in the series, but point out that Black Hellebore can be read as a ‘stand alone’ and it does not end with a cliff-hanger.

The synopsis supplied is well written and the story does not disappoint. You will identify with Nick or Julianna, according to your taste, and I guarantee that if you can accept the existence of a witch and magic you will enjoy the experience of following their adventure.

I wanted to quit reading, but I stuck with it. Sadly, it didn’t work for me.

The author introduces things, then doesn’t answer them, or partly answers them. Things did not develop or build enough. For example: Juliana asks Nick if he ever killed anyone. He is silent. So she puts handcuffs on him and drives him to jail. She would figure out whom he killed later. Then something else needs her attention, so she does not put him in jail, and then she forgets about it.

This fits within the romance genre but it’s not real feel good. Nick used to love Justina who died. He has been a drifter for 10 years. He feels guilt. Now he has a relationship with Juliana, the twin sister.

Nick is a superhero, thanks to help from a witch. A cat and a bad guy fell into toxic chemicals making them super monsters. Nick fights them.

There were occasional word usage errors. For example “The purpose of today was TO FOR the people to see him.”

DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Kindle count length: 4,303 (271 pages). Swearing language: mild. Sexual content: none. Setting: current day Falledge. Copyright: 2013. Genre: paranormal romance.

Nicholas Adams hasn't been at peace since his girlfriend's death ten years ago. Every year, he returns to her grave and the little town she grew up in. This time, instead of roaring away on his bike, he tries to stop a man from sabotaging a lab and ends up getting raised from the dead by a witch. Nicholas discovers his superpowers very soon after and becomes the guardian of the town. Yet it isn't as tranquil as it once was, and a supervillain has set his sights on his town of which the woman Nicholas is falling for is the sheriff. Even with his superpowers, can Nicholas defeat a seemingly invincible skeleton of a villain and save the place he's come to love again?

A great superhero story with a classic origin story and hero-villain enmity. Nicholas reminds me a bit of Batman in that he's a bit dark, but he has a good soul. His struggle with his past makes him all the more intriguing. The sheriff, Julianna is a perfect complement to him. She's a modern day paladin. I love seeing women in strong roles such as this. And the villain, oh, he's terrifying. I also really adored Gavina the witch and Ginny who's an old lady that takes Nicholas in. They were hilarious.

There's a strong romantic plot throughout the story. Nicholas and Julianna have a lot of contend with in the past as well as the present. It's nicely woven with the main storyline.

This is a fast-paced and smoothly written book with enough SOCK! and extra ZAP! I'll definitely be picking up the next book in the series.

Black Hellebore a Superb five-star read by Nicole Zoltack, it’s the first book in the Heroes of Falledge series, it’s also the first book by this author I have read, and I plan to now stalk the author and read everything she has written. We met Nicholas Adams, he went from foster home to foster home when he was a kid, until he landed in Falledge. Where he met the Perrys they were good people to him, they looked after him well, and he met his first proper real friends, Justina and Julianna Paige a set of sisters that would forever be intertwined with his life, sadly not always in a positive way.
Once a year for the past decade Nicolas has been visiting Falledge, he has kept to the shadows, not wanting to see anyone, apart from the one he comes to see. Justina and Nicolas were the perfect couple when they were younger, until she died and Nicolas ran away from the area. He returns every year to place a Hellebore flower on her grave site.
Never has he had any problems, until this fateful year when he is leaving town he sees someone sneaking into a laboratory and chases after them to try to help. Only problem is he ends up dead, and brought back by a witch, who was only trying to help. Help isn’t quiet what happens and he ends up changing into the Black Hellebore, helping the sheriff to maintain calm, well he will if she allows it.
As Nicholas he was never able to move on, but maybe as the Black Hellebore he will be able to settle down and possibly find love again. Only time will tell.

Nicholas Adams must face his demons as he returns to Falledge in Nicole Zoltack’s Black Hellebore.

Zoltack has created a classic superhero and villain for her novel. Nicholas Adams has the typical tragic and troubled past and a strong moral code as he morphs from man to super-man. The villain also transforms from a disgruntled employee to a creepy and vicious villain who has his eyes set on good ol’ revenge.

Although the basis of the superhero/villain story is familiar, Zoltack has introduced wonderful paranormal and romantic twists to the storyline. My favorite character is Gavina, the witch. She’s a touch batty, but she adds a delightful sense of comedic relief. Julianna Paige is a strong heroine, although her wishy-washy attitude toward Nicholas got a little old toward the end. I would’ve liked to have seen a little more development in Julianna and Nicholas’s relationship and how it grew through the course of the novel.

The novel started out fast-pace and ended the same with a slight slowdown in the middle. Zoltack kept me guessing on how the Black Hellebore would ever defeat the villain, and I thought how he did was ingenious. And that ending gave a hint of what more is to come for the Black Hellebore and Falledge.

Black Hellebore by Nicole Zoltack spins a refreshing superhero tale with its fantastic paranormal elements! I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

The black hellebore is an all around excellent read! It combines romance with superhero to super villain .Nicholas Adams is an ordinary guy who is haunted by his dead girlfriend for years he puts a black hellebore flower on her grave. Julianna is the twin sister of the dead girlfriend she has always had a thing for Nick . When Nick is ready to leave again he stops at a laboratory when he sees someone breaking into it one things turns into another and Nick dies a witch brings him back from death with superpowers. Action packed great fight scenes very well written ! The romance between Nick and julianna was sweet and not too overdone . Novel focused more on the fight between bad guys and the Black Hellebore! Highly recommend reading if you enjoy superheroes!

I really liked this book about a man trying to fight his past and becomes and unexpected superhero.

Nicholas has been running away from Falledge, the girlfriend he thinks he killed and her twin sister who reminds him of her, for 10 years. He's haunted by Justina and tortured by her memories 24/7, but longs to be home, wherever that is. He returns for his annual visit to Justina's grave and while trying to leave town on fumes i his motorcycle, he's see's someone breaking into the local lab and pursues the person. That is where is life begins to change, he becomes the Black Hellebore, for the reason behind the name and the how, you'll have to read the story. No spoilers here!

Throughout the story a growing love interest between Julianna and Nicholas develops, but he needs to deal with Justina's memories to allow it to grow.

This was a true superhero kind of story that keeps you interested and wanting to know what happens next! I'm about to pick up the next book in this series, White Hellebore, to find out what happens!

This can be read as a standalone, but it does leave an opening for the next book without a major cliffhanger.

Absolutely incredible! I could not put this down. Read it in one evening.
Everyone has skeletons in their closet, Nicholas Adams was no different. Plagued by the death of his girlfriend he ran away from the only home he had ever known. Justina was his whole world. She brought out the very best in him. All he had ever asked was for her not to do drugs, as both his parents had died from using. This causes a chain reaction of events that propels him to leave the ton of Falledge.
He returns to visit her graveside and other events cause him to stay.
He is exposed to chemicals, brought back to life by a witch, ends up with super powers and falls in love with Justina's twin sister Julianna.
A never ending whirlwind as Nicholas helps Julianna get rid of the mob that is threatening to invade their town.
A revengeful man exposed to the same chemicals is on a killing spree, offing everyone responsible for his termination of work and exposure to those same chemicals.
I am impressed with how Nicole Zoltack has created a super hero with real life problems. Many plot twists and this will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Nicholas Adams wants to put miles between himself and the town of Falledge. But on the way out, he spies suspicious activity at the local pharmaceutical plant. He investigates—a choice that forever alters his life.

In an on-the-edge-of-your-seat opening, Nicholas chases an unknown assailant through the laboratory, along fracturing catwalks and spilling chemicals. It marks the moment where he transforms into the Black Hellebore and a new super villain is created alongside him.

Nicole Zoltack’s new release is an action-packed superhero novel, pitting Nicholas (the Black Hellebore) against Lewis Lichman (aka, Skull Krusher). Zoltack creates a multi-layered story that seamlessly blends the superhero and romance genres with a touch of paranormal. Her villain, Skull Krusher, is sinister and disturbing. And this fine attention to development carries over to her other characters, as well.

If you enjoy action, heroes, diabolical plans, and romance, Black Hellebore is a must-read.

I enjoyed this book. Nick Adams is a man whose life has been full of tragedy that you can't help but feel for. He becomes an unlikely super hero after returning to Falledge.

Nick came to Falledge to visit the grave of his first love, Justina. On his way out of town something happens that kills him. Instead of dying, he is brought back to life by a witch and inadvertently acquires super powers. He had no intention of staying in Falledge but once a true super villain shows up he realizes that he belongs there.

The interaction between Nick and Julianna was great. It showed real human emotion and was very easy to relate to. The fact that he had been in love with her twin really made their relationship interesting. Once Nick becomes a super hero you can't help but root for him. After the rough life he had it became what he lived for. The book has action, adventure, love, and the paranormal-what else could you ask for? Loved it.

Nicholas's worst fear: Losing Julianna. And when the enemy is invincible, the story gets worse!

Nicholas has returned to Falledge after the love of her life, Justina's death. As he is totally broken, a witch lets him stay in her home. After the laboratory accident, Nicholas has completely changed. He now possesses super powers, which is dangerous for him if used extremely. But he doesn't care as his only mission now is to save Falledge from Skull Krusher, until Julianna arrives!

It is hard to live every day for Nicholas after Justina's death. But in all this chaos, he has completely fallen for Julianna, Justina's twin. And Julianna loves him too. But it is difficult for Nicholas to love Justina's twin.

Black Hellebore is really adventurous. Who wouldn't want to read the story of a super hero?

This is a real mix of superhero and romance. Nicholas Adams is fighting his past - the death of his girlfriend - and drifts from place to place, but returns to his home town of Falledge every year to lay a black hellebore on her grave. Trying to thwart a crime whilst there he is killed, but brought back to life by whacky witch Gavina (I loved her!) and finds himself turned into a superhero with great strength and speed. Joining forces with Julianna (twin sister of his dead girlfriend), they attempt to solve the crime and discover what has become of the perpetrator (now a monstrous arch villain). The relationship between Julianna and Nicholas is well drawn. Full of pain, we begin to see through their eyes exactly what happened to Julianna's dead sister and how that affects them now. If you enjoy this genre of storytelling this is a good book to read.

Black Hellebore is about Nicolas Adams who goes back to his town every year to put a Hellebore flower on his girlfriends grave. He still carried the burden of her death. Nick loved her she was his best friend and girlfriend. Nick was caught in an laboratory explosion. Julianna Paige the twin sister and always wanted answers. Strange things start happening to Nick and there are strange things going on in the town of Falledge. Nick becomes the some kind of super man.
I liked this story very much even though I normally don't read contemporary books. This sounded interesting and it was. I was glad that I read it and couldn't wait to see what happens next. My favorite character is the witch, she brings a nice twist to the story.

A melding of comic book and romance novel

Neither of those genre are my choice of reading. This is a well written and well edited book.

The storyboarding s good and solid and the mix of genre done well. Although not a fan of either, I finished he book and admit to being caught up n the story occasionally.

Go of characters and well developed. I will read other works by this author, I imagine her fantasy works and others will be very good.

This one is a stand alone book. With and ending, which was very pleasant, and the cliff hanger only appeared at the epilogue, which is acceptable.

So, if you'll u like the genre, you'll probably enjoy it.

This is my first story from Nicole Zoltack, who is a new author for me, but it will not be my last book.

This is the story of Nicolas Adams who is returning to Fall edge to face the demons of his past. Our heroine is Julianna Page whose twin sister Justine was Nicolas's girlfriend. Justine died 10 years ago and Julianna isn't convinced that Nicolas didn't have something to do with it.

It is a Paranormal/Romantic book with a twist. Nicholas was brought back to life by a witch. Is he a super hero or a villain? A fun, easy read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Nicholas has led a vagabond life since that fateful day. The day in 2003 when his world became one of guilt and mourning. Why he left Falledge and only returned once a year, on the anniversary. He'd never told anyone he was coming or when he arrived; that was fine with him. Until someone did see him! Two people in fact. The day that his life and the town of Falledge became connected again! Exhilarating and haunting romance combining several genres! Packed with action, adventure, heros, villains, witchcraft, emotional and physical healing! Received book free for an honest review.

I enjoyed the interactions and romance between Julianna and Nicholas. Nicholas loved Justina, Julianna's twin, who died when they were young, and he had to work through his feelings. He realizes that he needs to let go of the past in order to move on. Julianna admits that her feelings of friendship are actually love the more time she spends with Nicholas. Between everything, Nicholas becomes a superhero and has to deal with all that entails, including capturing the super villian. This was an enjoyable story.

Thoroughly enjoyable read

Heroes and villains do battle. A chemical accident changes the physiology of a man but doesn't change his already black heart. Typical of villains the world over he wants to rule everything. A handsome hero and his witch sidekick do battle to save Falledge. Nick torn between the love he has for twin sisters fights his own battle with his heart as well as the monster and his grotesquely malformed cat who was also changed in a chemical accident. Light hearted read that is well worth picking up. The story continues at the chemical plant.

Action, Romance & More!
Nicole Zoltack never seems to fail to deliver creative and unique stories that hold your attention from beginning to end! She does it again with this story as the action builds and evil threatens the town of Falledge. Nicholas is working through his grief at losing his girlfriend, and Julliana her twin. Together they fight an unforeseen nemesis who seems invincible. You will certainly not be bored reading this book. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

Intense

This was an adult superhero story which was intense and had me flipping pages to find out what happened next. It was a bit tough to read though. The emotions ran high and there was a lot of grief and guilt that had to be worked through. Once done it was easier to read, but it took awhile. The romance was clean and the language was fairly clean too. Definitely a book worth pursuing.

An action pact and suspenseful book till the end.

I loved Black Hellebore (Heroes of Falledge Book 1) it's packed full of action and suspense and magic and because I sat on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading.

I loved Nicolas. He's hot, sexy and because of his loyalty to his high school sweetheart Justina but tragedy struck. He comes back to town and spends time with Julianna against his will.

If you like to become absorbed in: action, suspense, magic and deep rooted friendship then Black Hellebore (Heroes of Falledge Book 1) is just the right book for you!

Julianna is Justina's twin sister who missed her sister very much . Julianna has always loved Nicolas as a brother, until something changed, people change, and feelings change.

Nicole Zoltack is a talented writer and it shows in her storyline and her characters. Emotions run high in this action packed book. Where the suspense, magic had me from the very first page, along with the powerful friendship/love that conquers all.

This book would make a great comic book, but not so much as a book,it needs visuals to pull the storyline and characters into believability. Good storyline, comic book plot, characterization well done

Decent story

This book was technically well written. However, I feel that it follows a very tired formula or outline for the genesis of a ordinary human to a super human. I am not sure who h audience the author was writing for but it might interest the teenage male.
