Starting just after the main character is raped, John Meany’s Save Me introduces a woman hoping to save her own life and her unborn child’s, while threatened by a cartoonishly evil duo of bad guys. But some bad guys really are just that bad, and, despite lots of backstory, the tale holds the reader’s attention well as Ashley struggles to survive.
In later scenes the writing becomes more detached and stilted, perhaps mirroring Ashley's confusion of creativity with despair. Soon she’s spiraling into depression and addiction, and haunted by ghosts, while her mother looks after the baby. The greatest threat Ashley needs saving from now may be herself.
The casually detached writing style keeps readers well-protected from the character’s pain, lending a sense almost of voyeurism to the tale. But there’s an underlying romance, plus lots more characters and themes to explore, while success and salvation both prove easier than they seem by story’s end.
This book is written terrifically so and brilliant, Mr Meany differently has a way with words. Before I tell you some about the story. Mousey ask that you get a nibble or two and a something to drink; and of course don't forget to pull up your chair. Now I will tell you about the scenes and the characters of the "SAVE ME". The scene are so dynamic and detailed so well. That you can actually picture yourself in the woods, at the sea shore, and else where in the story. As for the characters of the book, Mr Meany has described them so well that you are able to see each of them. You are able to visual them talking and acting in the book. Now Mousiey will tell you some about the story . As it starts out we find Ashley having been kidnapped an in the woods with her 2 kidnappers. She is begging them for her release and her unborn child's life. The 2 men however don't believe that she is pregnant. They wanted to know who the baby daddy was -she thought back over the past months when she told her loving husband that they were going to have the baby. He worked on a scaffold washing windows, and this one time ; he was not hooked to his harness for safety. When the scaffold fell , he fell to his death. Now 3 months pregnant, she is alone and going to be a single parent. She finds herself being raped by these men, not knowing what they are going to do to her next. They hear a distance noise of people talking so they tie her up , they run, she gets loose and starts yelling for help. One man comes to her rescue by the name of Troy. He finds her and yells for his for friend to call for the police and ambulance . In the meantime, the bad guys come back looking for something that they left behind. They knock Troy over the head , and choke Ash almost to death. So much so that when Troy finally comes to he thinks that her an her unborn baby are dead. But, they aren't . They aren't ; the police in the end upend killing the 2 guys. Now lets flash forward to after Ash has had her little bundle of joy. She has named her Kimberly -after Troy's mother .However, we find that she is now hooked on drugs and booze big time. Thinking that he really has feelings for her and wants to date her. She goes out with him. Over the course of time Troy starts to have feeling for her. This is where the story really gets crazy. This novel is more like a TV novella that has twists, highs, and lows that keep you wanting to turn on to the next episode the following day. As a novel, the characters complement the main character's delusions and conflicts.
A young lady's husband is killed in a freak accident and on top of that she goes through another horrific event, leading into atypical acts unbeknown to her mother who she moved in with after the demise of her true love. Her mom and a friend question her stability which is erratic, but let her find her way on her own.
Ghosts of the past invade her mental state wanting relief and companionship that she finds with mother's covert influence and drugs. Her mother's deception for her good comes to light, and our artistic protagonist flees to find herself with a few tranquilizers.
Her dormant creative abilities blooms and love for her child help her return to reality and the ones she loves. However, the ending will surprise the reader with an unconventional peak.
MURDER ME is my second read of John Meany's works. I'll be looking for his next.

"Save Me A Novel" by John Meany was a story that was loosely based on a true story, and was published under the controversial title 'Pregnant Rape.' This novel is not happy...even somewhat depressing however, the read you will be able to feel the emotions that will present a very realistic and moving story. The characters were well developed, believable and very colorful only to give you a good read. This novel "Save Me" was written very well and once you are into the read it flows very well to the end and will leave you will a message from this author. After the rape, the drugs the drinking will Ashley end up dead somewhere? This is the time that I say you must pick up the good read to see what happens to Ashley. The author did a wonderful job with this story of not making it 'too graphic or vague' but really making it 'not all victims of rape stay victims.'
I just finished this book and I loved it. It's got everything I like in a book, and it held my attention all the way through it. This girl suffered a horrible rape after her husband died, and she was pregnant. Reading about the way she suffered, and the emotional toll it took on her while she was determined to let the ghosts of her rapists win, and then how she overcame the horror and emerged victorious with some romance thrown in was great. She learned to trust the guy who saved her from the rapist, and when she was finally able to move on from the pain and memories, she was let down by him which led her to comfort herself with drugs and alcohol, while letting her mother assume responsibility for her child. Was she finally able to reconcile with her true love and put the past behind her? It kept me guessing all the way through. Another excellent book by John Meany.
This is an emotional story which opens with the rape and assault on the main character, Ashley. Pregnant and widowed, the ordeal, understandably sends Ashley over the edge into a world controlled by drugs and alcohol. She is rescued from her attack by Troy who later agrees to help get Ashley back on her feet. However, he falls in love with her and her young daughter Kimberley. The plot follows the crazy path of these two characters as they attempt to build some kind of relationship and Ashley struggles to get her life back on track and become a successful artist for herself and her daughter. Understandably she finds it difficult to trust people, particularly men and the narration reflects the instability of her character. Read the book to find out whether Ashley learns to put her trust back in human society.
Working with a group of mental health professionals, this book was very hard for me to read. With each paragraph, each chapter I was almost expecting Ashley to become another statistic in a report, whether it be suicide, desertion of her child, or just becoming another junky and/or alcoholic.
Ashley was able to talk herself out of taking her own life with the gun she owned for protection. She even managed to go back into therapy and stop smoking, drinking, or taking drugs. As with any addict she had a relapse when she thought Troy had lied to her about his feelings.
This book is a story about a young mother's journey through the grief of losing her husband, being raped while she was pregnant, and then learning to deal with all of her emotions through her art. Give it a read. The ending may surprise you...it surprised me.
I recieved a copy free in exchange for an honest review. Ashley Fergusen , pregnant is assaulted one evening at the town shopping center on her way to her car. She never saw them. One of them punches her in the face and knocks her unconsious. The other takes her handbag. They than take turns raping her in the field behind the building. Will someone hear her screams and save her? Or will she and her unborn baby die and be dumped in the woods? The story was based on a true story it is believable and the characters are well developed. The author did a gret job depicting that not all victims of rape stay victims.
349kb, romantic suspense, She thinks it is another ordinary night leaving her part-time job at the BVX pharmacy. It is not. Two drunk, evil strangers abduct the twenty-three year old, on the way to her car. One of them slugs Ashley in the face, hard, which renders her unconscious, the other snatches her designer handbag. Will Ashley and her unborn baby be murdered, and dumped in the woods behind the shopping center? Or will supermarket employee, Troy Young, who had heard Ashley 19s tormented scream, save her from what will likely go down as one the most shocking crimes to occur in Wichita, New Jersey in decades?
I am not sure what this book was meant to portray but it was an odd story. The characters all seemed very unreal and superficial. The emotions that the author attempted to portray never really came to be and came off as not feeling very real or heartfelt either.
It felt like there should have been more to everything about this story, dig a little deeper into the emotions and the feelings of characters. With this type of book if you can't pull together a real heartfelt, gritty, dark emotions that these events bring about then it fails as a story and the characters you should be feeling sorry for just come off as spoiled, hateful people you don't care about.
I really did like this book. I felt like the book had a lot of potential as far as subject matter and the romance attached to it as well. Also, the dialogue was pretty real to me, though I would have like to see it flow a little better in order to make it more believable when it came to intense situation However, overall, it was very good. I felt for the character and even cried a little at certain times. I definitely want to see more from this author soon
I did not enjoy the character of the baby the writer could have given. T he reader a better view of the character the baby drank Apple juice so I was viewing as a little baby but when I read this it threw me off I could not envision any of the characters they were written poorly I could not picture them in . My mind as I was reading the story line, was alright but was drawn out and the end felt like it was thrown together too fast
