On 2009-03-24, her work Chihayafuru was chosen for the Manga Taishō.
We always knew that eventually Mashima and Chihaya would actually face each other in a professional sanctioned match but man the lead up to it was kind of lame. These matches in the tournament have been fast/lacking in impact, even if we got to see a former Queen in action. Also Arata losing to such a minor character was lame after he just beat the current Queen

You know how the side characters are commenting on how intense the quarter-finals are? You can asoutely feel it while reading. And it's finally hapening! It only took us 19 volumes to see these two meet in an official match.
The tension is so well done. We're mostly focusing on a competition and it's so well-paced and exciting. It ended with a massive cliffhanger, which I usually hate, but it kinda worked here. It didn't feel forced at all and I really wish I had the next
