The Alpha of the Black Mesa pack has made a huge decision regarding rogue wolfs, which will affect the entire pack. It's up to Sara and Rafe to make sure no one is harmed and all rules are being followed. At the same time, Sara is having a strange reaction to Rafe, and doesn't know how to handle it.

This book is all about Sara and Rafe, two guardians for the Black Mesa pack. Sara is a young flirty wolf just trying to prove herself to the pack. She doesn't want commitment, she wants fun, and to be the best. Sara's trying to become the mature woman that'll gain everyone's respect and admiration by being the best guardian. Rafe is the Alphas son, and soon to be alpha himself. He's the top guardian, calm and patient, which makes him wiser than most. His hardest mission yet is to try to capture Sara's attention. You get to see more pack interaction in this book, and see more of Rafe's brothers as well.

I enjoyed it, it's a cute fun read. I think it's definitely better than the first story, there's just so much more story packed into the book. Definitely recommend to shifter and PNR lovers. ;)

Sara Kenyon, Pack Guardian and Lily's best friend, has a secret. She's in love with Lily's brother, Rafe. They had a secret fling a year ago, but she wasn't ready to settle down just yet so walked away. Now that they are patrol partners things start to heat up and emotions she thought she didn't have any more come back hard. Every time things between them get to serious, Sara walks away thinking she's not good enough for him. Will she push him away one too many times where he eventually won't come back?

Rafe Bardou, Pack Guardian and next in line to be the Alpha, wants Sara and has for over a year. He's waited patiently for her but he's done waiting and ready to claim his mate. The wolf in him will only allow her so much before he moves on. Rafe has a new assignment fro his Alpha and that is to start a new pack up north near Canada. Rafe is ready but he doesn't want to leave without his mate. Can he convince her this time that she is his mate and that she is strong enough to be an Alpha's mate?

I really loved this book. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend this boo to others.

My Thoughts - 3 out of 5 Unicorns - I liked it!!
*** I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal)

The cover is awesome, and I loved it!! Definitely peaked my interest in reading the book.

Okay after reading book 1, I think I got my expectations way up for this series. I liked this book, but I thought this was going to be a book I loved. I expected a lot of action from the rogues and stuff to happen, and it just didn’t.

There are the two steamy scenes you are warned about, and they are good :) But the rest of the story is basically about dating trouble between Rafe and Sara. They are awesome characters, and I was totally laughing at some great interactions. I just felt like action was building and nothing, then it was building again and nothing, and finally a half a chapter of awesomeness. Then it wrapped up.

I think it book 3 can have those conflicts from that awesome half of a chapter throughout the book that J.K. will hit it out of the park. I will definitely continue reading the series because I have seen authors totally prove me wrong and make it epic. J.K.’s writing style is awesome :) Maybe I’m just an idiot who expects too much action in a shifter book…lol but this is just what I want.

If you are into more of the dating/romance side of shifters, then this is for you :)

**I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal)**
Alpha wolf is a brilliant short story to add the the series, it greatly differs from the first in the series however the same overwhelming theme resonates throughout the story. We do still have brief flashes of the main characters from the last book but mainly because of their connection with the main characters in this book.

The main characters in this book are Sara and Rafe, if you've just finished the first book these characters are the best friend and eldest younger brother of the main character from the previous book, Lily. Sara is a fiery character who goes about her duties as guardian and life without even thinking about settling down with her mate. However after seeing Lily happy with her mate Sara is widely aware that there probably is someone out there that's perfect for her. After a casual one night stand with Sara years ago Rafe seems unable to get her off his mind, now with the growing fear of the rogue wolves that went after his sister in the last book he feels he should make a move. With the unsettling feeling that he may have to start a desperate pack he takes his change with who he thinks is his mate. This relationship between two strong willed and very independent characters makes for an explosive story especially once they actually realise they're made for each other. I loved Sara's character in this book as it was true to what we knew of her from the previous book and played that up fantastically. And Rafe is of course the alpha male we'd all fall for.

The secondary characters include Lily and Caleb, there were less secondary characters in this book due to this book bringing out other aspects affecting the two main characters instead of just the people they know. The secondary characters mentioned however were given the opportunity to not only process the relationship between the two main characters but to support it.

The pacing was great giving us a big build up from a threat we already knew existed and then the main event and still leaving time for an epilogue giving us a short detail allowing us to feel at ease with the characters knowing they are still together and happy.

The storyline in this book built on the last book giving more details about how the whole pack would be influenced and how they would react to this threat. There was of course also a huge romance story that ran alongside all of this and gave us just the fix we need from a short story like this.

A fantastic read, better than the first 4 stars.

I received a copy of this book from LoP in place of an honest review.

I loved the first book in this series and it wasn't as long as this book was. This book had a little more in depth and I liked finding out a little more about the Black Mesa Wolf Pack.

Sara Kenyon thinks that she has a lot to prove to get the respect she wants from the pack. She always seems to have the party girl name going on and she wants to prove to everyone and herself that she knows what she is doing. She wants respect. The only thing is now she has Rafe Bardou, who is next in line to be alpha coming after her. He shows her that he is ready for a mate.

Rafe has waited a year for Sara to be ready. Her wolf was always ready but her human side wasn't. He knows he needs to show her he means business but she still runs away. He knows that he has to do what his father says and go and make a pack of his own.

In this story we get to see that when we fight our feelings we just might lose the best part of our lives. Sometimes things don't happen the way we want and we will fight everything we feel just to get the thing we think we want. I really loved this book and can't wait for the next in this series.
The author did a great job and kept me entertained until the very end.

The first book Guardian Wolf (Black Mesa Wolves, #1) by J.K. Harper I thought got the series off to a good start. I was really looking forward to this second installment. There is not much to really say about the story because a majority of the story was spent on Rafe and Sara going on an on doing the same thing in their relationship. Sara would run (for really no reason) and Rafe would either chase or let her go to come back when she was ready. It got old really fast. I would perk up when the talk of the rogue wolves would come into play because it is obvious there is a hidden story in that story but only about 10% of the book was spent on that part of the story.

The love story is fine but it has to be balanced out a bit. These back and forth relationships become boring if you don't have a second plot brewing in the background to hold interest.

Caleb and Rielle story I think will be an interesting one and hopefully we can get a little more solid information about what is going on with Luke-the rogue wolf that the Alpha (Rafe's father) seems to tolerate- for some reason.

***Cassie #NerdGirlLola’s Review***

This was a great, albeit quick, read. This book 2 in the Black Mesa Wolves Series and I have to admit, without reading the first book I was not lost at all. The author did a great job of explaining the pertinent info from the first book without bogging down the second.

I loved the fact that Sara wasn’t one of those “I need a man to complete me” type of girl we see in a lot of romance novels. And the fact that Rafe was willing to wait for her to be ready just endeared him to me.

All in all I think this book was a great read. I would have liked to see it go a little further then it did but overall it was an awesome book. So much so I got the first book and am looking forward to reading more in the series.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review, Lovers of Paranormal.

This is the second book in the series, the first being Guardian Wolf. The first book was incredibly short but still managed to introduce the characters and leave me wanting to know more about them. Alpha Wolf is also a short book which is a shame as the story line could be taken much further. Sadly, for me anyway, the two main characters from book one, Lily and Kieran barely had a mention this time but the continuation of Rafe and Sara's tale was good. The characters are very well written and instantly likable. The author has also made other characters of interest and equally likable so the series should run on nicely. The sex scenes are hot and well written as are the action scenes, of a fighting kind, of which I wish there were more. The interaction between wolf and human self in each character also reads well.

I enjoyed the books and will definitely read the third when it becomes available.

**** arc received in exchange for honest review w/ group lop ****

So, this is the second book in the series but the first full book; # 1 was a novella. This book took me a long time to read. I picked it up and read and found other things to occupy my time instead (candy crush). Yup i said it, i put down a book for candy crush :( . Of course i tried and finally finished but i had the hardest time getting in sync with Sara and Rafe.

I don't need to give you a review of the book as what it is about as you can read the summary, however i can lend you my opinion on whether or not its a good read. Yes, for those who are into the wolfs and the paranormal you will like this. I would recommend also, this just wasn't for me there was not enough to the story in terms of action.

Happy Reading :)

I received this book in order to write an honest review.

I hadn't heard of the series so I purchased the first book and read it before this one.
I must admit I wanted to read more about the characters in book 1 as I thought Lily was great and sooooooooo much more could have been explored.

Saying that I loved both the books and am looking forward to the next.

Each book covers different characters and I think I most definitely have the hots for Rafe, I wouldn't have took as long making my mind up about him though lol

I'm not sure what the author has planned but I would hope these books are setting a scene for an explosive book which will cover all the characters.

If you like hot shifter books read these, they aren't just about sexual conquests like some books I've read they have a storyline also.

I received a free ebook copy of this book for an honest review from the author and LOP.

What can i say? The passion i felt between Sara and Rafe made even mu blood race a bit. Hehe. The sexual tension between these two lovers was steamy like the hot springs.

I like that Rafe understood what Sara needed without her saying it out loud. Him giving a year to Sara, for her to find herself made me like him instantly with this selfless sacrifice. But god was i hyped up when he had enough with Sara's antics and took charge off the situation with a tumble in the dark ;).

The only thing i was disappointed about this book was that i dont think we had enough time to develop an understand Rafe and Sara's relationship in the end. It was quite an erupt ending in my opinion.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads.com

I enjoyed the way the relationship between Sara and Rafe developed. It wasn't instant love and it wasn't easy to get to the point where Sara was ready to admit she loved Rafe.

There is some action with a little bit of a mystery going on. A good portion of the book is devoted to sexual situations. I was hoping to see Lily and Kieran in this book but sadly I was disappointed. This is a quick read and was enough to hold my attention. I am hoping for more in the next installment of this series.

This is the 2nd book in the series, it is helpful to read the 1st book to know what's going on. This book follows Rafe as he finds his mate and works toward his destiny of Alpha wolf and Sara as she fights to prove she is worthy of the Guardian position and receiving love. Their sexy scenes are well written and draw out a great mental image. As with the first book, I feel as though I'm in the southwest. I wish the story was longer as I'm dying to know what happens next; can't wait for the next book in the series.

Definitely not for me. The characters were not well developed and the storyline had way too many pieces to fit comfortably into a novella. I won't be reading the rest.

Sara believes she's only seen as a fun-loving party girl. She wants, no needs to be seen as a serious Guardian of the pack.

With the Rogues possibly getting their own pack, Rafe, the Alpha's oldest son is about to get an opportunity he didn't see coming. Before that can happen, he needs to convince Sara to finally accept him. He knows she's ready, but she seems to think she has something to prove to the pack.

After the Alpha announce the decision about the rogues, Sara decides she needs a run and maybe a soak in the hot springs. The last person she expected to see is Rafe and she certainly didn't expect him to join her on her run.

To me it seems that Sara is her own worst enemy when it comes to Rafe. She knows they're mates but she won't back down on her stance that she has to prove herself worthy of the respect of the pack.

Rafe seems to be up to the challenge, but he is giving her time to realize she already has that.

A fun read with lots of ups and downs and plenty of sizzle.

I loved this book when I read it as part of the Black Mesa Wolves Box Set. Black Mesa Wolves Box Set by J. K. Harper is a set of nine different books of the series all put together into the perfect reading order in one group. The nine books included in this set are: Guardian Wolf, Alpha Wolf, Hunting Wolf, Wild Wolf, Solstice Wolf, Christmas Wolf, New Year Wolf, Protector Wolf, and Fire Wolf. Every one of the books in this set was a wonderful read. Each individual book features a different couple who were forever mate and all of the stories are tied together as members of the Black Mesa Wolf Pack. I think anyone who loves reading about shifters or paranormal romance will love this box set where everyone eventually gets their happy ever after ending.

This was a great book/story about Rafe and Sara. Rafe is finally able to claim his true mate in Sara and together with Rafe as the Alpha of his own pack and Sara at his side, they'll be able to do whatever is needed to have a solid and loyal pack whom his father, the Alpha of the Black Mesa Pack will surely be involved in everything, especially dealing with rogue wolves. This book had romance and was action packed. I loved that Sara proved to everyone in the Black Mesa Pack what a badass Guardian she truly is and what Rafe knew all along. I'm re really enjoying this Series and look forward to reading the next book!!

We meet the rogues alpha in the last book, and he was disgusting. Very happy to threaten forced abduction and rape, though we are told a sob story as to why those rogues now have the alphas backing it creeped me out and I’m fast loosing hope that this series will work for me.
I love a romance, and love reading strong characters both of which are done well but the background story has to be important too as the background characters have to be people I would want to invest in.... that’s not happening here.

Great shifter romance! It would’ve been close to perfect if he hadn’t had sex with other women after he knew for sure that she was his mate. Once you find your mate you don’t touch another person of the opposite sex because it makes you feel sick. And she did the same thing with males during the year after they’d had sex. But....I don’t think she realized he was the mate until the end of the book but he was wrong and that was not right. Off putting and made their connection not as special.

Couldn't put it down

Once I started this story. I didn't want to put it down. Rafe and Anna know they are each other's destined mate. Anna just can't seem to find her footing with Rafe. And she is trying to figure out just what the rogues are up to. This is a quick paced story and I found it to be a page turner. Enjoy

Not sure how to rate it. The heroine was annoying, and very childlike ~ emotionally, mentally. Almost put book down because of her wishy washy drama. But..... isn't that the sign of a good author? The ability to make the character seem real, and pull you down into a believable story?

Writing style and plot: 4.5 (little too much inner dialogue)

Characters: Sara - 2.75
All other: 4.5

Excellent

Now this book 2 was worth reading. It was exciting and had a great storyline from the very beginning. This story drew you in with the mate battle going between them. Then the rouges that are brought in to add to the Thrill.

Trust me you will love this more than the first book. But you need to read the first for background.

Until Next Time... Tabi
