A four part serial novel under the Faith, Love, and Fried Chicken title. Volume 1, Summer available now. Volume 2, Fall available now. Volume 3, Winter available now. Volume 4, Spring coming April 2014. --- Marlene caught Dash eyeing Jaycee. Wiping the spot next to him, she slid a fresh paper placemat and napkin-wrapped silverware in front of the empty stool. "Never gonna happen." He smiled confidently, a plan forming in his head. Turning to face the counter, he gave her a winning smile, "It's only a matter of fried chicken." Marlene smiled at his answer, then raised an eyebrow. "What's only a matter of fried chicken?" Jaycee repeated. She came to stand near Dash with her hand on her hip. He took a long pull on the pop and braced his two hands against the counter, turning and leaning over in his stool so his eyes were level with Jaycee's. "You and me," he said slowly, letting his lips roll over the words as they carried to her on a breath and sank against the softness of her cheeks. Her beautiful light-green eyes narrowed and her full lashes fell in quick succession as she blinked rapidly. "Y-you and me? And fried chicken?" "That's right, darlin'." "Don't you darlin' me, Dash. I know what comes after your 'darlin'. Sure enough, I'm in your sights, but I'm leaving this town, not stayin' and settin' up a Mom and Pop with you." Marlene had wandered away once she saw Jaycee's temper flare. Jaycee was but three inches from his face. His gaze lazed on her lips and then swiftly found her eyes again. "Don't let the future overwhelm the moment," he whispered quietly. He reached for her hand, just running his thumb across the top of it and then let it go.
This book was more like a prologue than a book. It was sweet but didn't develop the characters very much, I was disappointed that it ended so soon. I might have liked it better if all 4 of the planned episodes were all in one book. The recipes were a bonus, but I would have traded them to know more about the people in the book. I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
“Faith, Love and Fried Chicken” by Laura J Marshall is a sweet and mild novella about Jaycee, a girl who grew up in a small town of Twain, Georgia. She’s never fallen for the advances of Dash, a guy who’s been chasing so many girls that he has the knick name of “Hot Flash Dash”. Like many small town girls, she has a hunger for something more than just being a waitress at the local diner. When a friend invites her to New York, she toys with the idea of moving there for good. This is the first installment of a four-part series. The next story will be about fall and Thanksgiving, and will be released in October. Winter and Spring are also planned. It seems these two characters have more to do. The story is nicely written and pleasant to read. It would be a good book for a hospital waiting room, a short airplane flight, or a mom waiting for soccer practice to be over. Sex level: just kissing Author website: www.LauraJMarshall.com
Two precious characters, southern charm, and a long drawl define this short story. Dash Matheson is a smooth operator with a winning personality and an eye for only one girl. Problem is, she's bein' stubborn. Story has a lovely pace to it and great promise for the next installment. I wanna know what happens!
Jaycee is determined to leave town and start a new life. . . I can identify with that, yet after a few years, I was more than ready to come back home. I can’t help but wonder if the same thing would happen to Jaycee, if she left home.
Dash Matheson is determined to convince Jaycee to stay — and begin her new life with him. Is he serious about using fried chicken to talk her into staying?
These are such cute… cute… cute… stories! Do what I did; buy the series on Amazon and immerse yourself in the southern-ness that is Twain, Georgia.
It's a nice, safe book you wouldn't mind your daughter reading. Dash sounds like nice guy. I wonder what brought about change from his earlier lifestyle chasing the girls, but that is not in the story.
I loved everything about Faith, Love, and Fried Chicken by Laura J. Marshall! Its sweet romance tugged on my heart strings and made my heart skip a few beats every time Dash and Jaycee were together. The innocence and intensity of their love was like listening to a sweet song of longing that is brought to life with a fun and lively rhythm. To watch Jaycee awaken to her feelings for Dash was pure enjoyment peppered with giggles and infused with a soft yet meaningful sigh.
I was immediately taken in by this fascinating yet unlikely couple. From all outward appearances, they were the least compatible couple in town, but love has a funny way of changing our plans. After all, our best laid plans are usually foiled by what is meant to be. We can't stop it, and Heaven help us if we try. What we need to remember is to let go and give our dreams and desires over to the One who knows what is best for us. He will make sure that we get what we need even if it is not necessarily what we want.
Laura J. Marshall is an enormously talented author whose stories touch the deepest parts of my heart. Faith, Love, and Fried Chicken is a truly beautiful and mesmerizing story of a heart-wrenchingly pure and unforgettably chivalrous love. The way that this tender love was pursued had me on the edge of my seat hoping and praying that my daughters will see this type of love in their life. Oh what a treasure and a joy it was to read this exquisite tale that is both enthralling and captivating! This story is absolutely and unequivocally irresistible, and I can't wait to see what happens next!
This was a short read and the first of four books. Dash finally gets the courage up to let his feelings for Jaycee become a reality. Jaycee isn't sure what she wants out of life. She goes to visit her best friend and while she is gone, something happens to Dash. She knows what she is supposed to do and where she is supposed to be.
this was a good short story. ended much to quickly. reminded me of a season finale ending. wish it was longer. the writer writes very well but not long enough.
