I felt sorry for Josephus being judged a traitor by his own Jewish people and largely dismissed as a historian by others. He was writing under Roman rule and in order to pass censors he needed to appease those around him. In time he has been rediscovered and embraced as a source of post biblical Jewish history at a time when there was none.
He also attempted to correct some anti semitic beliefs that were prevalent at the time.
This was worth a read though not as good as Bentwich's previous book on Philo.

A difficult read

This was difficult to read and perhaps not worth the effort. The authors is completely opinionated about Josephus. I would not recommend this work unless you have a lot of time for worthless reading.

A Must Read Biography of Josephus

This is a great free book from Amazon and A Must Read Biography of Josephus. This was included in Delphi Classics complete works of Josephus but I downloaded this because it has the bibliography and Delphi's version does not. I aim to read/listen to Alexa read this one multiple times. This book includes a great bit of background on Josephus and his writing along with covering some of the history of Josephus' works especially the alterations by 2nd or 3rd century Christians in order to make it appear Josephus accepted Jesus as the Jewish messiah which Origen said he did not. We can safely say Jesus did exist but we don't know what Josephus really said because parts may have been added, removed or changed. Christians tend to get very angry at people stating the obvious. I know this first hand but it makes me want to always bring it up. LOL.

I'd say a pretty balanced view of Josephus' writings
