All Kaylie Whittaker wanted for Christmas was to protect her daughter from the madman who killed her husband… All five-year-old CeCe Whittaker wanted was to have a real home for the holidays…
All Texas Ranger Sergeant Mitch Manning wanted was to drown his sorrows in a bottle.
Then Kaylie and CeCe snuck into his abandoned ranch house, looking terrified and obviously on the run, and his detective instincts surged to life. But he’d lost one family because of his job, and he refused to make room for this woman and her little girl in his heart.
Still, he was a Texas Ranger and he would protect them or die trying…
USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Rita Herron fell in love with books at the ripe age of eight when she read her first Trixie Belden mystery. But she didn’t think real people grew up to be writers, so she became a teacher instead. Now she writes so she doesn’t have to get a real job. With over ninety books to her credit, she’s penned romantic suspense, romantic comedy and YA novels, but she especially likes writing dark romantic suspense and crime fiction set in small southern towns. I think this book might have been a relief for me. It wasn’t quite as intense or as descriptively murderous as the first two book. Oh, there was murder and attempted murder and blood and all that stuff but it wasn’t all that described.
I think I liked Mitch and Kaylie as the best couple, too. They were both so hurt over deaths in the family, a little guilty over their desire of one another and hiding so much.
I liked little CeCe. She even acted and talked like a 5 year old. She didn’t say things like a 30 year old would like some authors have them saying. Even CeCe's inner thought's were done childishly, and that made it better, too.
And, naturally, we have our bad guys, Buckham and Fittiger. They were absolutely horrible! Just like a killer should be.
Lastly, there was a little tension in this book but only one explicit sex scene.
I'VE READ ALL THREE BOOKS IN THIS SERIES NOW, HOPE THERE WILL BE MORE TO COME. YIPPEE ALL ARE STAND ALONES! I LOVED ALL THREE, ESPECIALLY ALL THE HOTT SEXY BOOK COVERS. WHEW! THIS WAS FAST PACED TOO, KAYLIE AND HER DAUGHTER CECE ARE ON THE RUN AFTER SOMEONE BREACHED THE WITNESS PROTECTION THEY WERE IN. LITTLE CECE IS A REAL SCENE STEALER, SO CUTE. WHILE HIDING ON A RANCH, THEY ENCOUNTER SUPER ALPHA TEXAS RANGER, MITCH, SUFFERING FROM HIS OWN PERSONAL DEMONS. THIS STORY LINE HAS A LOT OF ACTION FROM THE START AND SOME HEART WARMING/BREAKING SCENES WITH A TINY TOUCH OF THE PARANORMAL. EVERYTHING FOR ME JUST JELLED AND MADE FOR A GREAT READ. NICE MEETING SOME OF THE CHARACTERS FROM BK#1&2. ;D
what a sweet story I love Mitch and kallie they are a great fit. even if they were both grieving for there own losses the found each other and became hole again. I like the thought of Todd, Mitch's dead son made his wishes known through CeCe and showing that there just might be a chance of the lost helping to see the pain of the living. a great series by a great writer. Rita Herron is amazing and has a great storytelling skill
4-1/2 stars. Almost perfect. So angsty and sad at first. I loved the characters. I just feel like the climax was a bit rushed and would have liked a few more details. An epilogue with a scene of Todd leaving or Mitch saying goodbye to him would have been nice.
This story is very emotional, almost cried at the end. Mitch lost his wife and son a few months ago. Finds a woman and her daughter staying on his ranch. Finds out they are in danger, sets out to keep them safe. Story has a HEA.
This was book three in the series. It was ok but like the last two books the story was the same except the names were the same but the names were different.
