The Reader's Digest Association, Inc. is a global media and direct marketing company based in Chappaqua, New York, best known for its flagship publication founded in 1922, Reader's Digest. The company's headquarters are in New York City, where it moved from Pleasantville, New York.
The company was founded by DeWitt and Lila Wallace in 1922 with the first publication of Reader's Digest magazine, but has grown to include a diverse range of magazines, books, music, DVDs and online content.
When I was a kid, one of the first things I would do when I went out to my grandparents' farm was go through my grandma's Reader's Digest magazines and read all the sections like "Humor in Uniform", "Laughter, the Best Medicine", etc. This 214 page collection was very amusing, with some entries making me actually laugh.
This book is a collection of jokes sent into Readers Digest over the last fifty years related to the US Military. Or at least, that's what it claims to be. I suspect it was compiled by a computer, and never evaluated by a reader prior to publication. Several of the jokes are repeated, submitted by different people but with the same punch lines. A few jokes do not relate directly to the military and are only circumstantual.
I understand this book isn't meant to be read cover to cover, but is more like a bathroom reader or coffee table conversation starter, but after fifty years there should be enough unique and original material to work with.
I thought this was freaking great... some of these little stories were so funny. I read a few of these to friends not familiar with the military and they thought I was crazy. The friends I read them to that are familiar... Cracked the Hell Up... as did I. You dont have to know about or understand military life to like these though.. they are funny either way.
Liked it :-) Nice quick read, made me smile, grin and chuckle more than once. You do not to be connected to the military to understand the funny things describe. But it helps ;-)
Funny stuff. If this had been edited better, I would have given it five stars. Duplicated jokes should have been caught and replaced. But still a fun read and glad to have it.
