Revisiting this series after a break, this was number 8. Sienna is a likeable heroine fighting against the bad metas in the world, especially the newest and baddest, Sovereign. After virtually everything was destroyed in the past books, Sienna is now recruited forcefully into working with the US government and FBI or go to jail.

Same old mega violence and a never ending story, I believe there are over forty in this series now. Last time i read that many in a series, it was the Hardy Boys, when there were only 50 something of them. Not again, I may put this series to rest even though I do like Sienna heaps. 3 stars.

I'll be honest, I struggled to get into this book. I really like the Girl In The Box series but this book just... I don't know. There wasn't anything horrifically wrong with it, I just wasn't able to engage with the characters. I was unable to put all the previous books down; I just HAD TO KNOW what was going to happen next! But with Legacy I was indifferent.

One thing that really bugged me about Legacy; how did Sienna suddenly develop the skill to shut up/lock up the voices in her head??? In Enemies the voices were a cacaphony that almost drove her insane. But right at the beginning of Legacy (which picked up only a few days after Enemies finished) she was suddenly able to shush all the voices at will. I don't understand how this happened :-S

With Legacy, I had to re-read quite a few pages to grasp what was going on, which I've never had to do with any of the previous books. I persevered though and made it to the end - the last few chapters were worth the wait and boosted my rating by a star or two.

This is just my personal opinion. Other people on here seem to have really enjoyed the book, so don't let my review put you off reading it. I'm still looking forward to the last two books. I cannot wait to see how this is going to end. Robert J. Crane is very good at keeping you guessing, and most of the time you guess wrong anyway!

This is a soap opera. Today on the "as the meta turns" will Sienna find true happiness? Will she kill "bad" metas and humans for humanity? Will she get a dog? Turn in to book 9. Again I'm glad this is on Kindle Unlimited. I would have not spent the money on this series. Its long and drug out. You could have combined it all in a few books (3).

Book 8 Grabbed Me!

And this Girl in The Box was fun. Book 7 was a little slow for me but this one, number 8 kept me interested and entertained. All thoughts of taking a break from the series has left my mind. On to Book 9!

Q:
“What are they going to do after that?” I asked, watching her carefully.
She walked to a nearby wall and leaned against the corner, her hair still stringing behind her, binding Old Man Winter, who stood, stoic and silent, watching us talk. “Take over the world? Give each other facials and perms?” She gestured to her long knot of hair. “Which, in my case, would be an expensive proposition. Hell if I know.” She looked to Winter. “What about you? Do you know?”
“I know it is nothing good,” Winter said in his low, slow timbre. “One does not start a plan by wiping out all of metakind and end with something benevolent, such as a benefit to raise money for the American Red Cross.”

I’m not certain why the author chose Legacy as the title for the 8th book in this series since there are still two more books to go? The main character Sienna Nealon has a lengthily discussion with the arch villain Sovereign regarding the legacy he intends for himself. Beyond that, I guess I’m just not deep enough to discern how the title applies to the series because to me it sounds like it should be reserved for the last book in the series. I'm not certain why the cover for this book is handcuffs? It seems like that would have been a more appropriate cover for the last book when Sienna is shackled and taken into custody by the FBI.
This is a somewhat less violent book than many of the previous books in this series. That’s not to say there isn’t plenty of action. Sienna proves over and over again how she is a nearly unstoppable fearless force when it comes to combat. But for me this book was as much or more about relationships than bloody battles. Some of the most memorable scenes in the book for me were between Sienna and her mother Sierra as they come to understand and respect each other. Sienna attempts to mend fences with two characters whom are not her biggest fans as she continues to realize and acknowledge the mistakes of some of her earlier decisions. A close friend and ally acknowledges his true feelings. There are a series of flash back moments in the lives of many of the characters in the series from their first meetings with Sovereign. We get a glimpse of the young woman and expectant mother Sierra was before Sovereign and perhaps what motivated her to raise Sienna as she did. We meet Sienna's father too although it's never explained how the two of them were able to make Sienna since Sierra is a succubus and her father was not an incubus. There’s a surprise reveal about two characters from previous stories. We finally learn why Sovereign has issued a “no kill” order of protection for Sienna while his #2 Weisman is still allowed to try and wipe out the rest of the meta-human population that isn’t a part of Century. If I’m going to be completely honest (which I try to be while writing my reviews) as much as I enjoyed this book and series, I’m also getting impatient for the end of this series. To see the final conflict between good (Sienna and her small band of friends) and evil (Sovereign and his one hundred). I’m want to see the prophecy that had all of these meta organizations trying to use Sienna since she came into her powers unfold. I want to see Sienna finally find some peace and hopefully a happy future. As good as these stories have been it’s starting to feel like the author is treading water, milking the series for all he can before he brings it to a conclusion. And with the benefit of having begun the series years after it was written and reading Goodreads reviews on the final couple of books I discover that somehow even the tenth book isn’t the end of Sienna’s story. As much as I’ve come to care about Sienna Nealon, I’m not certain I’m up for reading another dozen or so books about her because after so much emotional upheaval and pain in her life I think she deserves her happily ever after. So here’s hoping that in the final two books in this series the author provides a satisfying conclusion to the girl in the box’s story.

The Plot Thickens

This series just keeps you in suspense. Kudos to the author! The mystery’s just keep developing. This book was a very good read. I’m not so sure it would be good as a stand alone read. Since I’ve read every book up to this point I have the background to understand some of the flashbacks. Of course, in many books the flashbacks are used to fill in the blanks. As the author develops the story I’ve just been amazed at the revealing of ‘secrets’ that are hinted at from the beginning.
This series is a fast moving tale that keeps your interest. This particular book reveals many of the all encompassing reasons the main character has so many people after her all the time.

Must keep reading

I have honestly not been this involved in a book series since Poldark. Lol. I enjoyed Twilight and Hunger Games, Divergent and Maze Runner. But I would still only give those2- 3 stars. I usually read classic literature, Dostoyevsky, Austen, Dickens, Bronte. But this little series just works. The storyline line unravels slowly, but throughout, there is humor with the sorrow. Twilight was pathetic, Hunger games was violent with no good way to end. This has a chance for a happy ending. So now...on to book 9?

Oh my gosh...

Oh my gosh! If it doesn't end in this next book, I'm done. I feel like it's going on forever. Book #8 and we still don't know why Sienna is so special. So, Sienna is right in front of the guy that has this secret on the top of tongue, but was interrupted by a Sovereign flashback. Anyway, hopefully it'll be over soon. Regardless, I'm done in book #9 if this story doesn't move along.

This was the first in the series that I was reluctant to finish.
All the others had me hooked but this was so slow and mundane. I’m over the drawn out conclusion . I persevered and will continue to give the next book a chance because I enjoyed the others but I agree with a few other reviews this was a slow burn and had me feeling I wanted to put it down and read something different and I hate not finishing a book . Onto the next ~Destiny ( fingers crossed)

So much happened in this one

No spoilers, because there was a lot revealed in this one. Who is Sovereign and why is he after Sienna? Who is his right hand person out to destroy so much? This book moves the story forward in a big way and sets up some huge confrontations.
I like the pacing of these books and the action. Books like the ones in this series are truly an escape from everything!

Continuing the story of Sienna Nealon a meta-human with extraordinary abilities. I do love superhuman narrative. This book pulled a lot of different elements of the story so far together. Most of the books so far felt like they came to a finish point at the end of the book but this one really felt like it left the story in the middle. Just opened the next book and it doesn’t pick up where this one left off, need a palette cleanser before I go back to this series!

Awesome series

I love this series,. I have not been able to STOP reading this series !!!! I even paid for kindle unlimited so I could read the books after book three! And I have had my kindle account for years without getting unlimited. This is the best series I have ever read. This is an awesome book. Start with the box set. Books 1-3. I suggest this for everyone.

Feel like this book generated more questions than answers for readers. One big question was answered but still left me confused how so many levels. The flashback scenes were cool and insightful for the characters we've been introduced too and for the big bad to a degree. Over all I enjoyed the book from cover to cover nothing was ever too slow or too action packed.

Un-put-downable

These books get better and better. Sienna now knows who or what her enemy is. But the question is, is he her enemy or salvation. It seems he's watched and waited for an unbelievably long time for this moment , but is she ready to fully listen.

A good book

Your afterword stated this was difficult for you to write. I found it very smooth and easy to read. I've always had difficulty staying on course, not getting lost in details or off on tangents. I have rarely found a book so written, much less the first eight.

Dam cliffhanger.

That’s how good this book is in this series. It’s really a five star rating but the cliffhanger left me at loss for a fifth star. You will enjoy it and kudos to the artist for her cover art.

Jaw dropping!

Slow burn series is finally pulling all the pieces together. It's exciting to see. All the other books are well written and fast paced, but only leave clues for the backstory/unifying plot. This book starts putting a lot of the process together and its amazing!

Another suspenseful cliffhanger!

So, who is Sovereign, and what does he want with Sienna? How is Dianna so important? What is she really? Will she end up killing Sovereign or joining him in the end? Into book nine immediately!

Sienna works with a senator to revive the old Directorate with her running the operations. A lot more filler was in this one but I did love the moments with her and Scott, and I was totally shocked to find out who Sovereign was. On to the next book ….

Unstoppable Action!

This series moves quickly and I enjoy reading it when there is less blood and more meaning. I want to see what this Sovereign really wants with Sereina. So onward I go!😁🤗

The plot thickens

This book was clearer when it flashed back and introduced older gods that were going to reappear. The chapters that were from Many years earlier we were like recovering big gaps in a crossword puzzle that had been lost for some time.

Fun read!

I love the pacing of the book, the action sequences, and all the character byplay. I like it even though it's very formulaic. I just end the book wishing for some, any, resolution to the unknowns for the main character, which is, I suppose, the hook.

Legacy

This story really has a lot of background and I was glad her relationship with her mother is improving. In addition, we are provided with more insight on her enemies.
