Really fun, spicy little read. Cole is an alpha male with trust issues, after his parents died and his lifelong buddy, his uncle - ripped him off for everything. So even though he's been working with Meg as his assistant for over three years, and trusts her - mostly - and is attracted to her strongly, he doesn't want to go there.
Meg endured a childhood of schlepping from place to place as her mother first slept with her (often married) bosses, then got fired. The LAST thing she wants to do is follow in her mother's footsteps and sleep with her boss, although she's had a secret crush on him for years. And yes, she wants a promotion, but can't stand the idea that everyone will think it was not due to her hard work, but that she slept her way to the top.
When these two get placed in a situation where they HAVE to appear to be a couple, to close the most important business deal either of them have had... the heat between them explodes.
I really like this couple, and their complexity, as well as Meg's strength, and the wonderful secondary characters. Yes, there's a HEA, but it never feels like that is predestined. If you like books with rich alpha male leads that don't feel formulaic, this book is a great choice.

A powerful romance novel set in the glitzy corporate world. The writing is full of glamour and energy and will give you an adrenaline charge. A word of warning. Do not keep this for a bedside read. You’ll never sleep, I’m telling you. The prose is electrifying and energetic.
The build up to the romance is reasonably slow. But once the love scenes come on the scene, so to speak, the story turns sizzling hot. The love scenes are strongly written and highly erotically charged. But it’s sex for the sake of love, not sex for the sake of sex. The characters, Cole and Megan, leap off the page. An alpha hero and even an alpha heroine! He’s a hotshot business tycoon. She’s the perfect assistant who has lists for everything. They both have issues. He can afford his own airplane, but he can’t afford to trust his heart to a woman. She is fanatical about professionalism and aspires to be different from her mother, who mixed business with pleasure and became the victim of her mistakes. Meg may be in love with her boss, but she doesn’t want to be seen as the girl who slept her way to the top. How they work it all out makes an engaging read. There’s a black moment which really hits you, the reader, in the gut, but the conclusion puts everything into perspective.
The story balances the male and female viewpoint. It struck me that it opened with the male viewpoint and concluded with the female viewpoint. It’s not an easy job, balancing work and love and this story shows the reality of that. There’s a strong message which comes through. Success in business is great, but without love, well, it’s not worth much. As song, and the title of the book says, money, which translates into corporate success in this case, can’t buy you love.
Favorite Quote: She’d worked too long and too hard to let something as mundane as Cole Jackson seeing her nearly naked derail her career. She was a professional.

I saw this book on netgalley and decided to give it a try as it sounded like something I would like. It featured the two main characters, Cole and Meg. Cole is the CEO of a company and Meg is his assistant. When a deal that Meg is brokering begins to fall through, Cole has the two of them fly down to Costa Rica to meet with the owner of the company they are trying to buy to save the deal. Meg and Cole are both trying to avoid the physical attraction they have for each other since they want to maintain their professional relationship. But circumstances begin to push them together and they have to decide what is more important to them, love or work.
When I first downloaded this book I was under the impression that it was a full length novel, but it was actually a short ebook. I have mixed feelings about these short ones, sometimes I like them and other times I don't. Unfortunately, this time was one of those where I felt like the story was incomplete. While I did enjoy the relationship between Cole and Meg, at times it felt like it was forced. Cole also made a lot of stupid and inconsiderate decisions which I would have slapped him for if I had been Meg. Also, the plot felt a little stunted at times with no real depth to it and IMO no growth in the characters. Cole was still just as bad as he was in the beginning and just managed to make his apology look pretty. Not sure if I would have felt the same if it had been a full length novel where the author had more time to develop the plot and the relationship. But really, I have no inclination to find out if this is a one time thing. I'm just not that interested.

This story was OK and I don't know if it was just my edition, but I found some punctuation very distracting. For example, an extended underscore__ appeared in sentences throughout the book. That knocked down the rating for me.

This is a boss/employee to lovers story. Cole Jackson (boss) and Meg Parson (personal assistant) travel to Costa Rica to try to close a major business deal. The business will be a great asset to Cole's corporate empire and Meg will get that hard-earned promotion. They're mistaken for a couple and Cole goes with it as it will help to close the deal. Meg has been crushing on Cole since she started working for him but does not want to get involved with him. If she does, everyone will think she slept her way to her position. She has to decide if she will follow her heart or her corporate ambition.

This was a fun, fast read. While there was a “Big Misunderstanding” (during which Cole needed to be pimp-slapped for his major overreaction), there was no truly heavy drama. Instead, we got to focus on the sweetness of the relationship between Meg and Cole, and to enjoy watching them fall in love.
Recommended for fans of inter-office romance, Big Misunderstandings, and learning to trust again.
A very enjoyable 4/5 Stars.

I don't really know why I bothered to finish this one. It seemed like every page had to repeat the character's inner mantra - he only cares about business and can't trust anyone due to past experiences, she only wants to be taken seriously and can't waver from that or she'll end up like her slut mom. Over and over and over. Can we please move ahead? I began to skim early on over all inner dialogue and hoped it would get better. It really didn't. I didn't care what happened to these characters. Better editing would have tightened this book up, as well as caught the following language use errors - suite when the context was for suit, tail when should have been tale. Ugh.

I was wary about the plot of your short eBook, Can’t Buy Me Love. Meg Parson, executive assistant to gorgeous ruthless multi-millionaire CEO Cole Jackson, has longed for her employer since the day he hired her. She has forced herself to ignore her feelings for him because 1) he’s a player and 2) sleeping with him could ruin her professional reputation. Cole’s had the hots for Meg for over a year now and, when the two have to head to Costa Rica together to close a business deal Cole’s jonesed for forever, he decides he’s ready to acquire both the new company and his sexy assistant.
I’m not wild about boning the boss tales. Yes, I know many women have indeed slept with their superiors and that, shockingly, many felt it helped them get promoted. Still, such stories don’t call to me—when I read them I get distracted by a blinking neon sign in my brain: Bad Idea. Very Bad Idea.
But, I thought I’d give your book a whirl and see if you could recount that trope in a way that didn’t distress me. And, I have to say, you did. I was fine with the way Meg and Cole negotiated their professional relationship. I wasn’t crazy, however, about Meg or Cole nor did I especially enjoy their love story. The two went from colleagues ignoring their desire for each other to lovers so fast I almost got motion sickness. And, they act like such morons in the last chapters of the book—both suffer from excessive TSTL syndrome—I ended up not giving a damn whether they made up or not.
At the beginning of the book, the readers are introduced to Cole and Meg through the way the two view each other. Meg has been Cole’s assistant for three years, but has spent the past six months in an office down the hall, working on that BIG deal. Cole has missed seeing her and now that she’s in his office, he’s awash in lust.
Meg, too, can barely think about anything what a hunk her boss is.
The deal Meg has been working on is suddenly at risk and there’s nothing for it but for Cole and Meg to take his private plane—“one of a handful of custom-made Boeings in the world”—fly down to Costa Rica, and woo the elderly couple who is balking at selling their company, TBC, to Comnet, Cole’s huge multimedia company.

Meg Parson’s voice was brighter and lighter than the curves of her body would suggest. She shifted her weight and her hip teased forward against her suit skirt. The outline of bone against taut fabric taunted Cole with hints of lace panties. In a careless moment his gaze roamed over her legs, caressed her skirt, and brushed over the outline of her breasts. Hunger for Meg clutched his belly and twisted hard.
Meg, too, can barely think about anything what a hunk her boss is.
Even with his tie pulled loose he appeared stunningly sexy....
Meg averted her eyes so as not to stare at Cole. Of course she was physically attracted to him. Every woman on the planet was physically attracted to Cole.

Cole had major trust issues that wouldn’t let him get close to anyone especially Meg his assistant. For two and a bit years he refused to act on their attraction instead filling his days with acquiring businesses and his nights with meaningless drop dead gorgeous (of course) one night stands (sigh, don’t they all) annyywwayy, Meg is professionally driven and her past drives her actions too, she wants to get to the top on her own merits not because she’s sleeping with the boss, so their strictly business relationship suits her too, sort of. Meg though, yet again, she’s your typical almost virginal girl that swamps the romance genre, no boyfriend in sight, no man to slake her physical needs *huh?* for three years! *what?* That’s not a healthy young woman I tell you, that’s a frikken robot!
Then the deal of all deals pushes them real close and they finally get it off and things are rosy for a bit, Cole shows his human side and it was really quite sweet but you know the shoe is going to drop cause I can finally see the finish line but it’s still a distant blur. Cole’s head security man brings him what he believes is a file of incriminating evidence against Meg. Without looking at said file (say what?), Cole remember didn't get to the top of his game by being a fool cause he's no fool but he right there makes a fool decision just the same so I wonder how he indeed got to the top, they argue or rather he accuses and Meg walks (go girl). When Cole finally opens the file he realises he’s been nominated for dick of the year award and so commences my favourite part in every romance novel I read.
THE GROVEL
I’ve always said the time MUST fit the crime, not shoulda, woulda, coulda – MUST - I’m unashamedly blood thirsty like that and the author did a pretty good job at it.
Meg refused to see him, ignored his calls, gave his flowers away until Cole forced the issue by scheduling a meeting she had no idea he’d be at. I can almost touch the finish line so I know capitulation will be swift. He said I’m sorry I love you and she fell right into his arms. The end.
While formulaic and nothing new here I actually enjoyed the writers ‘voice.’
Oh forgot. If you're looking for pages of marathon sex, well look elsewhere but the anticipation more than makes up for it.

First things first in this review: this one is a very personal review. I suppose that they’re always personal, but in this case it goes one step further. This book worked very well for me today in my current mood. I’ve been craving a good romance for a week or so now but the ones that I’ve read have not managed to tick all my boxes. This one came so very close to having ticked them all that it really tickled my fancy!
I almost never read books like this. If I feel like romance then I tend to read either historical or paranormal romance. It is very rare that I’ll read contemporary romance and most of the time I don’t really like it. I have to admit that this particular contemporary romance is fairly ‘safe’ – it follows a set list of plot devices that make it very cliché. Had I read this on another day when I was in another, less forgiving, mood, the story probably wouldn’t have worked so well for me.
As it is, happy circumstances mean that I was able to thoroughly enjoy the story of this in-office romance between two very damaged individuals. Of course, they are both the standard damaged characters: he, Cole, was betrayed by family he trusted so now he doesn’t let anyone get close; she, Meg, was dragged around the country in her youth by a mother who couldn’t keep her legs together. Each is attracted to the other but determined to fight the attraction: he because he doesn’t want to become any more dependent on her than he already is; she because she doesn’t want people to think that she slept her way to a better position within the company.
Add to this a business owner who’s not quite ready to let go of his baby, his wife who wants him to herself for the rest of their time together, a business rival who wants what Cole has and is willing to use nefarious means to get it, and you’ve got your base pieces for this story. It really doesn’t get much more complicated than that.
It’s a good, quick read for any who fancies a light corporate romance.

My Review:
This book is a fun, sweet, easy-to-read contemporary romance featuring a workplace romance. Something that Meg promised herself that she would NEVER engage in. She grew up with her mother jumping from boss to boss and having to change jobs and homes often based upon how badly those romances ended. Meg has worked hard at Comnet and even though she thinks her boss is uber-sexy, she will NEVER be jumping into bed with him. He is everything that she is NOT looking for in a man. (She keeps lists for EVERYthing, including her perfect man...and he does NOT meet any of her requirements. I liked her lists and her organization OCD in this story...it was a cute little detail.)
Career-wise, Meg has been languishing for 3 years as Cole's personal assistant. It's way past time for her to have a promotion and she's earned it, but he doesn't want to give her up. Finally, he is relenting and has decided that once this deal with TBC goes through, she will have her promotion. But there is one big catch in the TBC deal. The owners have disappeared so Meg and Cole chase them down to Costa Rica to seal the deal. Once in this romantic country surrounded by the example of true love from the owners of TBC, Meg and Cole are finding it harder to stay concentrated on the business merger and not one of their own.
Like I said, this was an easy book to read and I enjoyed it. It's a pretty typical contemporary romance with the conflicts that arise to keep the Hero/heroine apart. For me, what set this book apart was the example of true love that came from Stan and Allison, the elderly owners of TBC. I liked what they added to the story and how they each would council both Meg and Cole on how to make their relationship work. Meg and Cole are caught up in the business side of things and Stan & Allison showed them how much more important love is in the long run. Just a gorgeous sentimental thread running through this book.
I like contemporary romances and this one was, plain and simple, a good one.

Meg has worked hard at Comnet and even though she thinks her boss is uber-sexy, she will NEVER be jumping into bed with him. He is everything that she is NOT looking for in a man. (She keeps lists for EVERYthing, including her perfect man...and he does NOT meet any of her requirements. I liked her lists and her organization OCD in this story...it was a cute little detail.)
Career-wise, Meg has been languishing for 3 years as Cole's personal assistant. It's way past time for her to have a promotion and she's earned it, but he doesn't want to give her up. Finally, he is relenting and has decided that once this deal with TBC goes through, she will have her promotion. But there is one big catch in the TBC deal. The owners have disappeared so Meg and Cole chase them down to Costa Rica to seal the deal. Once in this romantic country surrounded by the example of true love from the owners of TBC, Meg and Cole are finding it harder to stay concentrated on the business merger and not one of their own.
Like I said, this was an easy book to read and I enjoyed it. It's a pretty typical contemporary romance with the conflicts that arise to keep the Hero/heroine apart. For me, what set this book apart was the example of true love that came from Stan and Allison, the elderly owners of TBC. I liked what they added to the story and how they each would council both Meg and Cole on how to make their relationship work. Meg and Cole are caught up in the business side of things and Stan & Allison showed them how much more important love is in the long run. Just a gorgeous sentimental thread running through this book.
I like contemporary romances and this one was, plain and simple, a good one.

I got this book because, I thought it sounded like a cute, sexy read. I was hoping that it didn't turn out to be close to some other books out there about a mega-loaded guy and girl scenario. I'm pleased to say that it did have it's own story.
The book alternates between Cole and Meg's POV, starting with Cole. Not sure when it was that I started to like him exactly, but I did find myself attracted to his character early on. With Meg, I did like her pretty much right away. She has a quiet confidence that I liked. She appeared to be smart and had good rapport with the client they were trying to get. I feel like Meg has a deeper story that I think could have been expanded on. In fact, I really thought something about her past was going to come up near the end of the story.
As for their relationship, I was glad to see them get together. I understood Meg's hesitations about getting together with the "boss", but they very clearly had chemistry. There were some steamy scenes.
Here are my quips. There were some formatting issues, but since it's an eARC, I imagine those will be corrected. Another thing, as I said before, I think Meg's story could have been expanded on. Actually, Cole's could have too. Maybe the author left room to create a series? Also, the jump between POV's was a bit confusing at times. I like alternate POV's, but when it's in the same chapter and not a clear cut separation, I found it confusing at times.
My overall thoughts were: this is a good read if you're looking for a fast romantic read that has a little spice. It's not too spicy, but gives you just enough flavor to make it interesting.

This was a fun, fast read and my first by Maggie Marr.
Meg Parson has learned the hard way that you do not fall for your boss, the is a huge no-no, but having a boss like Cole Jackson has made that near impossible. Though Meg has fought the good fight, having been Cole's executive assistant for enough time that she has become an expert at hiding her feelings, and apparently so has Cole. All that comes to an end when Cole decides that he has had enough trying to hide his feelings for Meg. Now, I have to say that there were certain parts of this story that left me feeling a bit cold towards Cole but he did redeem himself, so I can live with that. All in all this was exactly what it is presented as, as quick fun contemporary romance and I enjoyed it! Having read this I will absolutely read more by this author in the future.

Nice storyline, fantastic characters, easy book to get into.
Only problem I had with this book was their was lots of gaps that I would loved to have been filled in on.
1. How their relationship progressed.

Sweet romance with a tiny bit of angst all wrapped up with a happily-ever-after.
This is the first book I've read by Maggie Marr so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I've been reading a lot of books from the In Death series by J.D. Robb and was looking for a light, fun romance to escape into before continuing and Can't Buy Me Love fit the bill!
About the book:
Meg has been working for Cole for 3 years when the book begins. She's stuck with him, even though he's a bit difficult, because she's hoping for a big promotion. She's also been in love with him since day 1 but knows he's the opposite of everything she needs in a man. Cole is a playboy billionaire with trust issues who secretly lusts over his somewhat anal retentive assistant. Cole knows she's worked hard on a deal and knows he will promote Meg once the deal is done....If he can keep his hands off her until then he plans on sending her far away to run the Hong Kong office. When a bump in the deal threatens to derail the whole thing, Cole grabs Meg and hustles her off to Costa Rica so the can convince the nearly retired CEO and his wife to sell their TV empire to Cole. That's where things heat up and Cole realizes (after having it pointed out by the butler, a bartender and the retiring CEO and his wife) that he's in love with Meg, trust issues be damned.
From there they go home, have a few misunderstandings, fight, make up and...Happily-ever-after.
The good, the bad and the ugly:
Meg and Cole had some real promise as a book couple, however, if you're looking for a book with real substance, Can't Buy Me Love falls a little flat. The angst is there but is over in a blink of an eye. The character development could have been much deeper and the story a bit longer.
If you're looking for a quick, fluffy, not-too-deep romance, that's where Ms. Marr hits the mark! I will definitely read another of her books when I need a quick, happy read!

A brilliant read
This was my first book from this author and I can’t wait to download the next one will have to wait awhile as I don’t get to buy books often so will be treating myself to see what happened next.
This story is about meg and Cole. Meg is coles assistant aiming for a promotion after 3 years as Coles assistant, after traveling to close a deal and everyone assuming they are a couple Cole gives in to his feelings for meg and stops fighting however something gets int he way and c9e ruins things keeping his fears role his head and not his heart . It’s a love story set in a in a work place and you just can’t seem to put the book down as you need to know what happens to the pair.
At the end you get a little taste of what’s to come in the next book which is why I can’t wait to get my eyes on it

Cole is a big time businessman who suffered at the hands of his uncle and had to fight back to get control of his family company. He hired and auspicious woman Meg as his assistant and she has been most efficient at running things for him for the past three years. The thing is he has feelings for her but want pounce on them becasue he doesn't trust anyone. Meg has her own issues with love because of her own past with her mother. These two people seem the most unlikely couple but as they say Love will get you every time.

Completely engrossing story
I absolutely enjoyed watch Cole and Meg grow, not only individually but together as well. The story of two jaded and emotionally tortured souls will keep you hooked from start to finish. You get every feeling with them as you see what each has been forced to endure in their lives to get where they are now. I wish I could give this more than 5 stars because it deserves so much more.

Your Basic Contemporary Romance
I didn't hate this book, but I didn't love it - it was your basic Contemporary Romance. A quick read with a predictable ending about a rich guy and his assistant. The characters are fine, but the usual (& predictable) suspects. Did feel the final cliffhanger style ending didn't necessarily fit the rest of the book, but I also have never been a huge fan of cliffhangers in books.

Very quick read... picked this up as a freebie. I'm not begging for my time back that I spent reading on it. It was enjoyable, but not something that I'll read over and over like I do with other books.

“Can’t buy me love” è finito nelle cose da leggere perché era una romance, ma naturalmente, come mi capita fin troppo spesso ne avevo completamente cancellato la trama. Ma chi mi segue sa che non rinuncio mai a leggerne una, soprattutto quando mi viene servita su un piatto d’argento.
Meg Parson è da circa tre anni l’assistente personale di Cole Jackson e sta lavorando ad una grande acquisizione dell’azienda di Stan Morton, un’acquisizione che finalmente potrà portarla ad una promozione. Dopo sei mesi in cui non si sono praticamente visti l’attrazione tra Cole e Meg esplode anche più forte di prima. E quando devono andare in Costa Rica per parlare con Morton e convincerlo a vendere i due sono incapaci di stare lontano l’uno dall’altra. Riusciranno ad acquisire la società di Morton? Ma cosa più importante riusciranno a costruire una storia d’amore basata sulla fiducia?
La Marr è stata capace di creare una romance che contiene i classici elementi che mi fanno adorare questo genere, anche se più le leggo e più noto i gli elementi che le accomunano tutte. Perché continuo a leggerle? Uno perché adoro una storia con un bel lieto fine, due perché non so resistere ad una storia d’amore che passa per una bella notte infuocata al colmo della passione. È una delle mie debolezze, posso leggere di tutto, ma ultimamente non riesco a stare lontana da questo genere, forse perché manca nella mia vita e mentre aspetto che il principe azzurro o comunque un meraviglioso ragazzo faccia la sua comparsa mi accontento di leggere di altre donne che riescono a trovare la felicità passando per una serie infinita di difficoltà.
Anche “Can’t buy my love” si allontana dal genere. I due provano forti sentimenti l’uno per l’altro ma hanno paura di dichiararsi e provare a stare insieme, si trovano, si amano, iniziano ad innamorarsi seriamente, succede qualcosa di grave che li allontana finché non capiscono che non possono stare lontani l’uno dall’altra e si ritrovano di nuovo insieme.
Anche i caratteri sono quelli già utilizzati in altre mille storie, come si dice niente di nuovo dal fronte occidentale. Meg è una donna che sa quello che vuole nel lavoro e nella vita privata e anche se è attratta da Cole che non è solo super sexy, super handsome, ma anche un uomo intelligente, che sa come muoversi in ogni situazione, tranne che quando ha a che fare con una donna. Ma Meg vuole un uomo con cui costruire la propria vita, con cui sposarsi e mettere su famiglia e non solo il successo professionale, lo stendere da solo in mezzo alle difficoltà della vita. Non vuole che gli altri pensino che sia arrivata al successo solo perché ha aperto le gambe per il suo capo, ma in qualche modo vuole guadagnarsi il suo posto in un mondo in cui le donne sono sempre guardate dall’alto in basso quando raggiungono posizioni di prestigio. Ma per lei è inevitabile innamorarsi di Cole soprattutto quando lui le mostra il suo lato più vulnerabile.
Cole è il classico hot man che può avere qualsiasi donna ai suoi piedi, che cambia donna ogni settimana, che non si accontenta mai finché non ha ottenuto ciò che vuole. Ma non può negare cosa sente per Meg, perché in qualche modo capisce che è fregato. Ma non può permettersi dì essere debole con lei, non può lasciarsi prendere dai sentimenti perché rischia di rimanere scottato. Vuole ottenere il successo, vuole affrontare nuove sfide, ma alla fine ciò che conta è amare la donna che gli ha portato via il sonno. Meg rappresenta tutto ciò che ha sempre cercato e costruire con lei qualcosa di importante è la sfida più grossa che gli sia mai capitata davanti anche se deve ingoiare il suo stupido orgoglio.
Il particolare da non dimenticare? Un fantastico vestito rosso…leggete e scoprite che cosa succede.
Il libro è assolutamente perfetto nella sua concezione, una romance capace di cancellare per qualche ora i problemi che offuscano la mente del lettore. Incapace di posare il libro si vuole assolutamente scoprire cosa succede ai due protagonisti e si spera nel “happily ever after” fino alla fine. In fondo tutti adorano una storia d’amore super hot.
