Determined to cultivate a life of ultimate abandon, as exemplified by her hero, Thelonious Monk, as she approaches the age of thirty, Adriane Gelki embarks on a series of mishaps and misadventures designed to transform her life, only to find herself busted for flashing an undercover cop, breaking her therapist's ribs, and ruining a perfectly good orgy. I picked up this book on a quick whim because I needed a break from non-fiction and simply put, I liked the cover (it had a dog). I liked the story the author told about a relatable girl trying to survive the 20's. The main character was written in what I feel was a shallow way - it could have been fleshed out better. Because of this and the fact that there were many and varied sexual situations (which generally don't bother me and I have read books where they do contribute well to the story), I found it a little creepy. For me, a character had better be well written before adding sexual elements, whether the author is male or female. Unfortunately this completely distracted me from the story in this book.
I loved this book. It's a sweet but strange story of a 20-something girl as she navigates life with her dog... with a powerful ending. Just thinking about it makes me want to read it again!
