Absolutely loved it! I always enjoy a good love triangle especially when you are rooting for one guy and despising the other. The suspense, mystery and unexpected happenings take you on a wild adventure entwined with the ongoing love battle between Damen, Ava and Travis. The characters are built very well and the storyline is very enticing and original. I would have loved more description of surroundings and scenery - but nonetheless it was a book that I had a hard time putting down. Hats off to the author!

I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side!

Firstly I would like to thank Elsha Fornefeld, author of The Altar, for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this fabulous book.

Whoa! The concept is totally new with an interesting story line and solid plot, it just have every element you can wish for in a great book and I bet if you start it once you won't be able to put id down, it's fantastic.

I loved the love triangle that the author introduced here without making it clique and way too much irritating and frustrating like in the many new releasing books we get to see nowadays.

I heart Damen but I also like Travis, see Ava can also be confused but she has bigger issues to be confused as well! The character of Ava is truly awesome and it touched my heart. Through skilled words the author brought out Ava'a dwellings and emotions to the readers and let them experience all of it with Ava. The choice that Ava had to make is really a tough one and all the while the reader was kept in suspense making the read more intriguing.

The suspense is really eerie and it made my stomach hurt in anticipation and the mystery is totally fabulous which will grip your interest from the very first and you'll compelled to turn the pages on and on till there are no more left.

The romance is great and it spiced up the story as well and I loved the descriptive and skilled writing style of the author which made the whole background clear and didn't make the book confusing.

A must and great read for ya all and hope that you'll like it as much as I do.

I'm waiting for book 2 anxiously and would want to ask the author to kindly select me as one of the lucky reviewers of book 2 as well, well I know that's not fair but what can I do, huh? It's the author's fault to create such an excellent book, well now the readers will definitely want more!

RATING ACTUALLY 2.5

I have mixed feelings about The Altar by Elsha Fornefeld, there were parts of the story, which were compelling and captured my interest. Particularly, the opening sequence when Ava and her friend narrowly escape death when the car she is driving spins out on black ice plunging through the railing and into the icy winter waters below. Ava pushes her friend to safety but is unable to free herself from her seat-belt and goes over the edge with her vehicle. She is saved from certain death by a mysterious man, who seems to be unaffected by the frigid waters, and with whom she feels an instant connection. When Ava awakens in the hospital he is gone and she feels unaccountably bereft. His identity remains a mystery until she returns to classes the week following and her mentor's replacement is none other than her unidentified rescuer.

Ava Cook is a vibrant senior in college, is about to be, thrust into two different worlds that she never knew existed; a world of sacrifice, blood-lust, power, and immortality that she will likely never return from.

However, there are two very distinct reasons that might make her never want return to normal.

All of them are certain that she is the key to unlocking the legends of these powers, but Ava does not know herself what they are after; all the while being forced to choose between love and safety, and in whose arms she can find it.

Knowing a relationship with her professor/mentor is off limits Ava allows herself to become involved with Travis. This was unfortunately where I began to have trouble with the direction of the story. The connection between Ava and Damen was instant and convincing. From her first date with Travis, a set up with her best friends roommates, the relationship feels awkward and forced, which in and of itself is not a problem as love triangles are often skewed. When Travis declares his love for Ava and she replies that she feels the same I found I lost respect for her character. A case of double "insta-love" simply required more suspension of disbelief than I was capable of.

After the dramatic sequence where Damen rescues Ava from drowning the tempo of the story changed and it felt like the reader is being being "told" rather than "shown". Furthermore, as the details behind the secrecy surrounding Damen and Travis were revealed, I began to lose interest finding that they bogged down the pace rather than lending a sense of intrigue. However, despite the fact that I wasn't captivated by this story anyone with an interest in Aztec or even biblical history may find it more to their liking.

Note - Thank you to the author for providing a copy of their book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I want to state that I received this book in exchange for an honest review.... And I am giving it 3 stars. Here is a blurb from Goodreads:

The overall idea behind the storyline, with the Aztec Rituals and Biblical Lineages that age 4 times slower (@ least, as compared to the average human), and the overall quest for a "different type" of immortality, was pretty cool and different...... but that was about it for me. There simply was not enough action to keep me "hanging on" to each and every word......I really needed a little more. I felt like I just kept waiting for something to really happen, and sadly it never did. It was nicely written, although there were several editing issues throughout that made it difficult at times to follow. The concept of the book is very imaginative and the author is definitely talented at what she does...... I just felt that I needed to be on the edge of my seat and torn between a love triangle to which I see no real solution which is equivalent to "love triangle torture". Love triangle situations, that are properly written make SOME the best novels and when it came down to it,I just did not "believe" the love triangle that was built for the main character Ava and involved Damen and Travis. I just never "felt" it! I did believe for a while that maybe I would be rooting for Travis (the bad boy), but he let me down and did not redeem himself enough in my eyes. As for Damen..... the way he handled himself after saving Ava from nearly drowning at the beginning of the book, which was basically nothing, well.... he kind of lost me..... I never really felt it after that. Still, cool concept, and a sequel in the midst.... I may just have to see where the author takes it. 3 of 5 stars!!!

When I rate something this low I don't usually leave a review, but in this case I thought the author should be aware to get an editor. I struggled to finish this, but I got the sense English is not the author's first language; whether it is or isn't, this book is so buried with typos, bad sentence structure, completely random placement of punctuation, and wrong words, that to read it with any comprehension is almost impossible, which is too bad, because the concept is good. Some examples, however...double untundra (entendre?), sodium pentathlon (pentathol?), a toe headed boy (tow?) and threw used contantly for through, are just a few, and these sort of mistakes make me end up reading the same paragraph over and over to make sense of it.
