Lippincott's Illustrated Biochemistry is the long-established, first-and-best resource for the essentials of biochemistry. Students rely on this text to help them quickly review, assimilate, and integrate large amounts of complex information. For more than two decades, faculty and students have praised LIR Biochemistry's matchless illustrations that make critical concepts come to life.
So this is it. It's finally time to say goodbye. My first true friend in medical school. Lippy, you have seen me laugh (some of your graphics are hilarious), you've seen me cry (I still have no clue how fatty acid synthesis works and the Shelf exam is in two days), but most of all you have seen me learn. Your questions at the end of each chapter are wonderful! They are so good, in fact, that they sometimes appear verbatim on my exams 0.0
Thank you for being my partner throughout Biochem this L1 Fall semester. I did not enjoy taking this course, but it was nice to know that I had a constant companion by my side, always there to explain the concepts to me when the lecture inevitably went over my head. Having read every single one of your pages, some multiple times, you feel more like family than an online textbook.
I may forget quite literally every single enzyme I learned over these past four months, but I will never forget you.
It is a great resource to learn about the pathways that occur in our bodies in an easy way. The most important part is the illustrations and mind maps that help me to memorize those complicated metabolic pathways and nutritional information . The book is important for students of all medical colleges.
If all of my undergraduate biology/biochemistry had to be compacted into the most condensed yet informative textbook, this would be it. Along with the Cell and Molecular Biology book, this book is a gem, and I will continue to refer back to it even further in my education. The hundreds of dollars spent on lengthy textbooks doesn't even compare to the comparatively small amount that this book costs, yet is considerably more helpful than those other chunky bricks. I used this not only to study for biochemistry (which earned me a solid A), but was also fundamental for creating tutoring sessions to teach other students, and in preparing for the MCAT.
As Mark Twain once said, “I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.” Seriously, that's what other textbooks feel like. This one, however, makes it clear that the author invested so much time in creating a guide that you can refer back to long after you've learned the content.
