From Falchan to Earth to the heavens and places in between, join Devin, Dragon, Conner and others as they travel through this collection of short stories.
Connie Suttle lives in Oklahoma with her husband and three cats.
Connie holds an MFA in Fine Art (film production and animation) and taught courses at the university level before moving on to bookstore management. Nowadays, if she isn't writing or editing, she's dreaming up her next book.
This was a really accomplished collection of stories. Like many short story collections, there were some which were stronger and some which were weaker. The weakest of the stories I think was the one about Conner. The fact that one of the main character's names switched from Jon to Ron partway through the story was just one of the things that let it down. However, the linked stories, about Devin, Dragon, Merrill, Adam and Phelan Tiger was exceptionally good. I think the first story, where we meet Devin, was by far the best. Writing short science fiction is a difficult thing, but the author created the world, set up the physics and laws and had you understanding what was going on right through until the twist at the end, without ever being heavy handed about it. The later story which had this character was also good, but I felt the opening of this collection clinched it. And the writer writes very well. This is a free book which is well worth downloading.
I have to say this is 1 of the best authors I have the pleasure of reading. Connie writes fantastic stories, that cover a wide range of paranormal's and worlds. The brilliance of that would be enough for most authors, but she also self publishes. Awesome. The world building in all her stories is so full you feel as if you are there. That in the end or beginning they are all 1 story and 1 world just goes to show her genius. This anthology is brilliant. Filled with short stories, that act like grout, add to and hold together the big picture/story.
Solstice Trials, Bodyguard and Saving Pheran Tiger were my favorites in this anthology but I enjoyed the whole thing. I was so glad to find out that we would learn more about some of our favorite characters from Connie Suttle's stories in this book. I have a new respect for Devin, Conner, Joey and even Glinda. Knowing that Erland hasn't always been perfect makes him even better. Dragon...ahhh to have a Falchani warlord and his twin, Crane, a general.
I really liked learning more about Devin and Dragon. I'd give the book 5 stars if it had a usable Table of Contents with clickable links to each story..
