This one was a bit spicy ! Spicy for the Amish. Loved it, Shelley never disappoints!
Can't wait to get the final book-- This Summary/Review was copied from other sources and is used only as a reminder of what the book was about for my personal interest. Any Personal Notations are for my recollection only. **
Sometimes a series comes around, you find yourself reading the book so quickly, you realize you're finished before you know it. Then unfortunately there is the long wait before the next book in the series is released. The saddest part is when you realize you've reached the end of the series and you're reading the final novel. It's like saying goodbye to friends, you know you may never see again. Each of them has found a special place in your heart. That's exactly what happens in the conclusion to The Secrets of Crittenden County, by Shelly Shepard Gray in the book, Found.
Throughout this series, there has been the murder of an Amish man, Perry Borntrager, who was found lying dead at the bottom of a well and no apparent suspects. We've learned that Perry wasn't well-liked among his Amish neighbors and friends and was recently fired for stealing from the store he was working out. Perry appeared to be living more in the English world than the Amish one, and had recently broken up with his girlfriend, Lydia. It seems besides the fact that the Amish don't talk about their issues to anyone, especially outside the community, they have been keeping secrets from one another as well.
Now with the investigation finally wrapping up, we are about to learn who really killed Perry Borntrager as well as find out what will happen to some recent love developments that have happened along the series, especially with the Amish Inn owner, Frannie and the English detective, Luke Reynolds. Will they be able to find a way to make their relationship work despite their cultural differences? What role does love have to play in all this? Lydia has found love with Walker Anderson, but what secrets are they holding? Will Beth find love in the heart of the Amish or will it lead her to interests outside the community instead? What about the notes his sister, Deborah, has been hiding? What do they say? To find out, you'll definitely need to pick up this series, but start at the beginning with Missing, then The Search and finally Found! ** In this series there was a murder that sort of hung around and got solved in this last book but ~ reading this book alone is possible as I did, still enjoying the characters and their anguish of this ordeal all were going through in the community. not knowing..........
Deborah had a brother go missing and because he was the type of person he was that always seemed to rub folks the wrong way, she assumed along with others that he had left the community. Brother Perry had a way of making others feel small by his actions and words. Deborah had always been late going to school with him and his friend Jacob Schrock,,but she didn't mind as she liked to watch Jacob, she thought him a boy that she wanted him to notice her though he didn't at the time. Jacob was an only child which was unusual in amish lives as most folks had many children, his father doted on him and he always was around at the Schrock's variety store. Growing up and seeing folks coming and going from the store he overheard many conversations and his father told him he must not repeat what others said and just ignore their conversations ..easier said then done and he knew things sometimes that he should not have and felt he was always keeping secrets... Book #3 settled more on solving the murder of Perry, yes it had been decided it was a murder after his body had been found. investigation in amish community was different it seemed from other places. I enjoyed reading this story and seeing Deborah and Jacob come closer together because each needed the other and they did not realize this for some time. Secrets became unraveled and love filled up the holes where deceit and untrustworthiness reigned..... ***
In this third book of a most intriguing trilogy, readers finally learn exactly how Perry met his end. But almost more interesting than solving the questions about his demise are the relationships between the characters in the book. When an Amish and an Englisher become attracted to each other, to further the relationship one or the other must change. This is a problem that confronts more than one couple in this novel. And still others must accept what has happened in their community and rise above it, forgiving the guilty and accepting forgiveness. And yet others must go against family wishes to fulfill their own happiness. This well-written series ends with a satisfying conclusion, even if some questions are not fully answered.

I received Found by Shelley Shepard Gray compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance and Harper Collins Publishers for my honest review. I've been so excited to be a part of this tour series from the beginning and am both sad and happy. Sad because as I stated above, it's over and it's hard to say goodbye to some of these amazing characters. I am also happy because even though along the way you may have been guessing, who did it and who will finally get together, you will finally have your answers and you might just be surprised when you find out. I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and once again will keep this one on my permanent shelf to read again!
The Secrets of Crittenden County series and book #3!"Found" by Shelley Shepard Gray

A murder mystery. A love story. A inspirational story about the Amish and their neighbors. In their own rights, each element would be an intriguing story, but when combined the three blend into a fascinating tale that is impossible to put down. Author Shelley Shepard Gray manages to do this with her series, The Secrets of Crittenden County. And with "Found," her final volume in this trilogy, Gray wraps up the mesmerizing story of murder among the Amish with finese.
Beginning with a short prolouge to remind readers of what has happened previously, Gray takes her cast of characters careening toward the conclusion of a murder investigation that has rocked the quiet community. The Amish and their "English" neighbors alike have struggled since the murder occured, and the young people have been under suspicion for their actions. As the clues begin to unfold, the true idenity of the person responsible comes as a shock to the town (and to the reader!)
Gray captures the essence of the quiet Amish ways, their strong sense of faith and morales and she adds in the excitement and turmoil of a murder mystery to create a series that is truly unforgettable. The charming and old-fashioned romance between the young folks is an extra treat for readers, a nice cherry-on-top.
I enjoyed this series, and I highly recommend it for mystery lovers, as well as those interested in Amish stories.
This was a well-written third novel in a great Amish series full of great characters. This is a rather unique series of books because the first three novels involve a mystery that is solved by the end of the third novel and at the same time three different couples sort through various obstacles in their way to forming a life together, but the fourth tag-along novel is a suspenseful romance due to a secondary romance that was introduced in the second novel. (According to the author's note, this was a piece of the story that she didn't expect to become as developed as it did. I still get confused by authors saying such-an-such character surprised me or such things. I think of authors as being God except than an author's characters aren't real and don't have free will like people do, so why wouldn't you know what your creation was going to do? But I digress.) In this particular novel, we focus on the romance of Deborah and Jacob as the mystery of who murdered Deborah's brother, Perry, was finally resolved. Because both Deborah and Jacob are Amish and grew up together, their romance comes to a conclusion quite quickly, and the couple who admits their love last (in the mystery "trilogy" part of the series) is actually married first, and even though they still have quite a bit of emotional growth to go through due to Perry's murder, they are stronger together than apart. But anyhow, I really enjoyed this series and fell in love with the characters and the small town feel of Crittenden County.
Featuring: Epigraphs, Marion, Crittenden County, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Ohio, Murder Investigation, Detective, Store, Secrets, Author's Letter, Discussion Questions, Book Preview: Daybreak
Rating as a movie: PG-13 for adult content
My rating: ⭐⭐
My thoughts: 29 of 244 Ch. 4 - This can go either way, I'm hoping it's good. 📖 137, ch. 16 - I really wish I didn't feel obligated to finish this series. These characters are on my nerves. As far as the murder is concerned, the investigation is slow and there are too many side stories. 😑
This book was not good. The murder mystery was solve and it's finding was absurd and not consistent with the law. I just couldn't get past it. I also didn't care for the couples. I'm still going to read Peace, which I've read years ago without the background of this story. This series was meh.
Recommend to others?: Nope. I would skip this series if I could do it all over again.
So, I'm going to review the whole series. I like the idea and the mystery and the people, for the most part. Unfortunately, there are groanable moments too. In order to fit the conflict there are some moments that seem to bring up problems that I figured had already been resolved in previous books or conversations. It's the stirring up of emotional angst that some romance writers seem to find necessary but drives me crazy. Clean romance seems to need this device, So, although the story idea is good, I just get frustrated enough that I can't really love the books. So, 2.5-3 stars is all I can do. I read them anyway because I love romance and don't want the language or graphic love scenes of the romance books of authors whose writing style I like better.
Found is the third book in Shelley Shepard Gray's Secrets of Crittenden County series and did not disappoint this reader. The author did a great job of keeping the identity of the culprit hidden till pretty much the end of the book which of course, keeps the reader's interest, wondering who did the deed. I like how she wrapped up things with several of the characters that have been in all three books of the series. Found is a story that explores the time-tested bonds of a small community, the healing power of forgiveness, and the importance of friendship and love. Again Bernadette Dunne has done a fantastic job with the narration of the audio version of the book.
Missing, The Search, and Found a trilogy by Shelley Shepard Gray
A three-part mystery novel centered around an Amish county. There was a young man who was considering leaving the Amish community who turned up murdered. The books weave a tale of a close-knit community that doesn't want to let a murder, even of one of their own, be solved out of fear that they're (a) not being good forgiving Amish, (b) are afraid of what their little piece of the puzzle says, and (c) dislike the outsiders who are investigating.
Included in each of the three novels are individual coming of age stories and blooming romances, showing that even in the middle of a terrible situation, life goes on.
This is the third and final book in The Secrets of Crittenden County series. It is a good blend of mystery and romance that continues to work toward solving the mystery of what happened to Perry. As the mystery now begins to come to an end, the community and a romantic relationship are deeply affected. Once again, I kept guessing and turning pages wondering how it would all end, and I was most definitely not disappointed.
Although this is the final book of the series, it is followed by a novella, which is sure to add an extra special touch to the series. Be sure not to miss it.
This book picks up where book 2 left off. Mose (the sheriff) and Luke (the Cincinnatti detective) are frustrated because their murder case has dragged on for so long without resolution. However, certain facts now come to light that lead them on a new line of questioning. They consider arresting one of the victim's friends, but a quasi-confession leads the prime suspect to turn in someone he loves dearly.
Great series. I'm looking forward to reading the Christmas novella with these same characters.
Some aspects of this series I liked, but it annoys me that you get 2x an unfinished story and must read all three books to get to the conclusion and revelation of the mystery being (Finally) solved. I did not think much of this story was plausible and didn’t care for the ending, I don’t mean just who done it, I mean the very last of the book in the epilogue. That wasn’t believable at all. That being said I think I will still read book 3.5, “Peace” just to see if some of the loose ends for characters I did like get tied up nicely (or not).
A great conclusion to the Crittenden County trilogy.
The “who” was not surprising once I put everything together but what was surprising was that person was willing to chance the future of someone very close to them. I’ll never understand those type of people. It broke my heart.
I like how everything was not neatly tied up on all the romances. There are questions and it is left to the reader’s imagination. I do realize there is a Christmas novella and those questions may be answered in it.
This book finally solves the mystery of who killed Perry, and it wasn't someone I would have thought of as a suspect until this last book. It also has the development of Perry's sister Deborah's relationship with Jacob. We get to see a lot more of the characters in the previous book, the only open end is Beth and her relationship with the special agent. I really loved this sweet romance series and thought the mystery element was done well.
This was the best book for final in series of Secrets of Crittenden county. half-way through this book, it is finally revealed how Perry died. Perrys sister, Deborah and Perrys' friend, Jacob have family members that made wrong choices in life. In the worst of their sorrows they find a sliver of light.
I have finished the last book in this series and It’s time to say goodbye to the people and story in this authors world. That to me says the author has done her job when the characters become a real.
I found this a great beach read. I wish only that I had available the first two books in the series. I added Gray to my list of authors I can depend upon.! Who killed Perry? Jacob seems the most logical choice but you have to read it to find who the real killer is!

Pretty good series. Reminded me a bit of Terri Blackstock's If I Run series in the way it was set up - each book as a stand alone, but the main plot carrying over. You'll really want to read the whole series. At times it felt a bit repetitive, but overall, it was interesting enough.
This was a pretty good series. I am more of a cozy mystery buff. This series has a continued mystery. Lots of relationships that were made and grown but more of a love story. This was a good series though. Give it a read if you like a clean and heart warming series.
The author did a good job on keeping my guessing as to the killer in this series. I enjoyed all the books, but unearthing the murderer was a little bittersweet.
A good conclusion to the murder mystery from book one and two. (I did skim faster through this book to solve the mystery.) I would recommend this trilogy for a weekend getaway fast read.
