Jack Bailey is just a few weeks away from beginning his dream career as Forest Ranger in the upstate New York town of Angel's Bend. Jenny Rudea, veterinarian in training, is madly in love with Jack, and the animals she cares for. On the way home from her house one night, Jack takes an unanticipated detour to Hosner Lake aka Phantom lake. While there, he encounters something that raises the hair on the back of his neck. What is out there, on the other side of the lake? Is it a shadow, a hunter, a wolf? Without a weapon or a flashlight, he is not about to stick around to find out. He hops on his bike and heads for the main road where something leaps onto his back, causing the accident that steals his mobility, threatens his sanity. As if this isn't bad enough, when he wakes up in the hospital, paralyzed from the waist down, he has no idea what occurred on the lonely road, but is now a prime suspect in a murder investigation because of what was found almost pinned to his body: a naked girl whose throat has been slit. In his comatose state, Jack hears detectives interview Jenny at his bedside. He eventually regains consciousness and is transferred to a rehab where he hopes to recover the use of his legs. The police are searching for a serial killer because mutilated bodies have been piling up across the country, as well as in Angel's Bend. While Jack struggles with his physical injuries, he must also defend his innocence. Jack manages to slip in and out of the window of his room mysteriously, at will, even though he's in a wheelchair. The only one who notices his disappearing acts is his physical therapist, Rachel Huntress, who is almost as weird as the predicament Jack has found himself in; Jack's extraordinary abilities and hairy appearance don't seem to faze her at all. There are tense scenes which include violence and raw emotion in this werewolf whodunit. Who is the murderous werewolf? Jack? Or could it be his high school rival, Detective Don Delgado. It's anyone's guess. Along with mangled corpses, there are several possible suspects. This killer is not part of a pack. He's a ruthless rogue. Wheel Wolf is a stunningly intense chiller, with gripping internalization from Jack's and Jenny's points of view. Packed with romance, suspense, twists and turns, this bestselling, unpredictable psychological thriller will have you on the edge of your seat from page one until the bittersweet conclusion.
January Valentine is the pen name of Victoria Valentine, New York writer and indie book publisher. See Victoria's Author page: amazon.com/author/victoriavalentine
I chose to use a pen name because some of my writing is steamy, and I wanted to separate Victoria, who writes contemporary fiction and children's storybooks. Since my birth month is January, January Valentine seemed an appropriate pseudonym.
I also host a blogtalkradio show: Away With Words, every Wednesday evening at 6 PM EST where I interview other writers and poets and discuss writing in general: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/aww1
In June, I released my first paranormal romance, Beautiful Experiment, book one of Island of Defiance Trilogy. Wheel Wolf was released on August 20th, and instantly became an Amazon bestseller in Horror/Suspense/Paranormal.
I've written three other novels: Love Dreams contemporary romance, Sweet Dreams in the Mind of a Serial Killer, and Head Over Wheels New Adult romance. All are available on Amazon and other booksellers, or will be shortly in ebook and paperback.
I publish books for other authors through Water Forest Press, which I founded some years ago. In the past I have written poetry and song lyrics, but now I focus on fiction. I've created multiple websites and blogs that I don't have time to manage very well. My desire to be in a rock band brought me into a recording studio ... where my lyrics sprang to life with the help of a local alternative rock band. Together, we produced a CD.
I enjoy designing book covers and youtube videos. I enjoy hiking and swimming. I love all kinds of music. Watching horror flicks and Tyler Perry movies are my escape from reality.
I have an addiction to engraved pens that I buy to accompany each of my books. My office is filled with paperbacks and swag.
For Seasoned Horror Fans. Nail-biting drama. Bone-Chilling Terror. Unconditional love that lives beyond the grave. The Kindle version of Wheel Wolf is available now, and is on Amazon's bestseller list. Youtube Video: Wheel Wolf Trailer
I cannot recommend Wheel Wolf enough if you are looking for a horror story that is entertaining and exciting to read! I just loved the plot, characters, and writing style of this author. Kudos!
I love this book. I hope that everyone will go and buy this book, let your emotions run wild with the beast in Wheel Wolf. I felt that no matter what happened in Jack's life Jenny would be able to get Jack back to normal, just because of the love that she had for him. She was able to save him from himself even after his parents death. The characters in this book are just so wonderful I loved them all. From Jenny, Jack, Donnie, Rachel, and Dr. Sloan. I have been looking for a book that makes you feel everything that the author wants you to feel. Ms. Valentine has pulled that off. You will feel every heart break and all of the love that Jenny and Jack feel for each other. Please everyone go out and get this book I promise that you will love it as much as I did.
I loved this book! It was A awesome horror werewolf story! January Valentine did a wonderful job with this book! So read it you won't be sorry! ... Highly recommend! It is the season....for a great werewolf story. Love, love , love! Not sure when I finished this book...so just left today's date on it!
This book was awesome the Author described the characters very well, this book kept you wanting to read more each word you read. I was very impressed with the whole book i would recommend this book to everyone.
At first I was not sure if I would enjoy this story. Then I was caught up in the hunt for a serial killer. Jack is a good man who experiences some very bad things but accepts the unknown as he experiences it. I know the description is "horror", but I found it very enjoyable and not at all scary. The end of the story was a bit happy/sad for me and I thought it wrapped up the story nicely.
I received this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
I loved this story which actually is saying a lot because I absolutely Hate anything Horror movies, shows, books heck I won’t even go to the Haunted woods at Halloween time. The characters in this story were fully developed and relatable. This story Scared the crap out of me at times and made me cry at others. There is love Happiness pain and sorrow in this story and it is so beautifully written at times you forget that it is only a book and these characters are not real. You can feel every emotion the characters are going through and Mrs. Valentine makes the scenes so easy to visualize they run through your brain like a movie. This book is graphic which is great for all you horror lovers and even if you don’t like horror (like me) I suggest you give this book a try I think you will be as pleased as I was. This story will grab your attention from the beginning and hold it till the end. This is not the first book I read from this Author Nor will it be the last. I highly recommend this book to Horror lovers and haters alike! Plus At the time of this review this book is on sale on Amazon for only 99 pennies who can beat that! A great book at a great price
This book is one emotional ride...and I mean that literally. Victoria has written one HELL of an suspense filled and heart wrenching thriller. This story is fast paced and hair-raising. There are twists and turns you are not going to see coming. There is one twist, if you are anything like me, you are going to scream and have a fit and yell, "YOU DID NOT DO THAT!" You are captured by this story right out of the gate. You are drawn into the characters and their feelings immediately. You feel the undying love between Jack and Jenny. The heartbreak, anger, and anguish Jack feels after each adverse life altering experience he encounters. You also feel Jenny's emotions she experiences. Her unconditional love for Jack, the love she feels for for her parents, and paralyzing terror she feels during an incident that no one should have to endure, especially alone. The characters are well written and in-depth detailed including the secondary characters. I smiled, cried...keep Kleenex handy, laughed, and had the sh*t scared out of me.
Let's face it, if you read paranormal, you are reading a form of horror. I never considered myself a horror fan or connected the 2 Genre together but Werewolves and Vampires are the stuff of both. Jack is a normal guy, normal relationship, job and life until he is attacked. By what? Even he isn't sure but there is a dead young woman and a paralyzed Jack left behind. Lucky for Jack he has Jenny who loves him no matter what. I am not one to share spoilers, can't stand that, I want to read the book. As a result, my reviews are usually short. Nothing different here. I will say that Jack has friends he didn't know he had and learns to believe in things that "don't exist". I like to think that if you aren't sure you like the horror genre, Wheel Wolf is a great starting point. Ms. Valentine does an extremely good job at drawing you into Jack and not running you off with trivial facts. Book 2, where are you?
Be warned though, Graphic violence & you'll need some Kleenex for unexpected cleanups. LOL.
The story is about a love that will never falter. Jack gets in a terrible motorcycle accident & Jenny is there for him every step of the way. Even with Jack now being a parapeligic & in a wheelchair, their love is a thing that dreams are made of.
Shortly after the accident, Jack begins to change. He can hear things he shouldn't be able to, he can smell things acutely, & though he's always been a hairy guy, he's growing more hair than usual. Is it just the meds doing this?
Jack also meets Rachel. His physical therapist at the live-in rehab center. She's...something else altogether. Let's just say, she's a "believer".
I really can't say anymore without giving anything away. It's so full of twists & turns, unexpected things happen that'll take your breath away!
received this book to read and give my honest review The writer takes you on an adventure that is hard and fast. Grab a box of Kleenex as this story ripped out my heart It hit very close to home with a motorcycle accident that changes everyone's life. Pulls at your heart to feel and live the love of Jack and Jenny. The true passion that can hold a love forever. In this world or the next. The writer takes you step by step with great detail on a journey through this love affair. There is happiness, LOVE, sorrow and pain in Jack and Jenny's life. To have felt a love like that must have been wonderful. This story took me by the seat and pulled me along for the ride. Look out Jack and Jenny.... Rebecca is coming along for this ride on her Harley A ride for Justice and Love. Praying for book 2 so the ride will continue. And I love the cover.
This is one wolf story I absolutely love! The author does a great job in making you feel every single emotion that all the characters go through. Jack has the love of his life Jenny, a dream job as a Forest Ranger starting in a couple weeks and the one night he decides to leave Jenny's and stops at the lake his life changes forever. Left paralyzed after an accident that left a girl dead Jack tries to remember what happened that night. When there's a string of murders and he starts changing into a wolf he starts to question everything. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone! I could not put it down and it has a couple of shocking parts that you won't believe happen. I'm hoping there will be a second book!
*ARC given to me by author in exchange for an honest review*
WOW, what can I say!! I was a little doubtful when I first started this book because it isnt the normal books that I would pick to read. But I had read so many wonderful things about it I just had to read it. I am here to say it wa snot a dissapointment at all , in fact, after about 3 pages I couldnt stop reading! wonderful story line, nothing like I have ever read or seen before!!! A true "on the edge of your seat" story. Trust me you wont be dissapointed. Victoria is a talented lady who writes with such visuals you can almostt hear, taste, smell, feel that you are there with the characters, just as involved as they are.<3 Victoria Valentine <3 5-stars!!! Wheel Wolf !!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was a little curious as to how well balanced the romance and the horror would play out, but I was not disappointed. I loved the way the characters were built and the way the imagery in the story was so well thought out. I also thought the storyline was fantastic. I've been hesitant on werewolf stories that involved romance since Twilight, but believe me, this is a true horror story. I'd recommend this to any of my horror fans!
From the moment I began reading "Wheel Wolf" I was hoo From the moment I began reading "Wheel Wolf" I was hooked. It had me on the edge of my seat waiting to find what would happen next. Being a fan of the author's other books, I knew that I was in for a treat, and I was not disappointed. As in her other books, she brings the characters to life and places you in the scene which is always great in a thriller like this one. I will recommend it to my friends and family. Another amazing read!!
I liked this story, in all honesty it was kinda slow for me. There were parts that were great and moved along nicely. Parts of the story where I went, SHE DIDN'T JUST DO THAT. So when that happens you know this author can write. Not all stories catch me and keep me, but this one kept dragging me in. I finished this one and I had to wonder if there is going to more, it sure felt like there could be. I will be watching and waiting.
Wonderful read!! Thank you very much! I love Jack and Jenny's love. This book had the right amount of scare, love, and OMG to it. I recommend it to everyone not just folks that want a scary read. I do not want to give much away but am so glad Jenny stuck by Jack. I am looking forward to reading more by January Valentine!!! A new fan and looks like a fan for life. Thank you and keep up the wonderful work!!!!
I'm trying to venture out from my normal reads, and when I read something this great, I wonder what took me so long. This is a well written horror story. Jack and Jenny take you on an action packed, emotionally charged, scary as hell rollercoaster ride. The love that they have for one another is something else. Im glad Jenny toughed it out and stayed by Jack's side. Whatever you do, don't read this at bedtime.
Wow what a book if you love horror then you must read this book!!!! It's so realistic that it have you think your are watch a movie and not reading a book!!! I give no spoilers for this book you have it to have out what going on with Jack and Jenny!!!!
Wheel Wolf is normally not my type of book to read, but I enjoyed it tremendously, scary, horror scenes and all. Can't say it didn't take me a while to get through I would stop and read some more. lol
I don't normally read horror, but I really enjoyed this one. This is a well written and intresting read. I love Jack and Jenny's relationship and seeing the unconditional love they have for each other. I am ready for the next book. I am looking forward to reading this author's other series.
Its not my usual genre but it was well written with strong characters. It was a good story for a paranormal book. The only negative was the male character kept saying im handling.....I think it should be im dealing but itsnot my book.
I found this tale to be unique and different in a good way. I fell in love with the characters and the mystery of Jack's legs. In hope this be ok becomes a series, great job author January Valentine!!!!
