I thought the title was hilarious, so I checked this out against my better judgment. It's not bad! The eponymous princess is jilted by her suitor for being too large, and after he absconds with her silly younger sister she rides to find them. Along the way she and a serving man strike up a romance of their own. It's not bad, but it's very short (~20 pages) and ends with an epilogue that is literally a very quick summary of how the actual romantic plot would go.
I understand why the author used the style of writing that she did, it fit with the time period of the story. The story itself was boring, with nothing really going on. There were no descriptions of the characters, minus Margery, or the fact that Drusilla was 'big'. How does an author expect a reader to like a story with no descriptions?
Why did it end with Drusilla, John, and the sister riding back home? Yet, there was a little 'Dear Reader' thing at the end of the story saying how John and Drusilla ended up falling in love and whatnot. That actually didn't seem plausible considering she was a princess and he wasn't really anything, no fancy title.
Questions/Comments:
How old was Drusilla's sister? She sounded really, really young especially with her pouting for a strawberry tart.
When Drusilla finds out that Margery left with Prince, how was she not upset at either of them?
The writing of this short story isn't as polished as it could be. I found myself wishing for a little more description, and the ending seems to re-name a character.
However, the tale itself is charming and if you like Austen, you might like it. The characters are well drawn. I'm glad I read it.
This was a great story but the Make Your Own Ending.... well I can only guess what the letter from Drusilla to Prince Aubrey read. I hope it read..... haha did you think I would really give away my secret ending?
The book was ok, it could have been written with more of a bigger plot. The book was a fast read just needs more detail. I for the first in awhile found the book not great but if some work was done to it could be a best seller someday just plot and needs more detail. Good luck
This story was really short and showed no character development. I felt that the style of writing also kept the reader from really connecting with the story. But it was free.
