Ooooh, this book was good! It almost made me wish for a flooding storm to hit me so a hot and wet hunk would come and rescue me... ;)
Jason Mauer is finally back home, in his brother Dustin's house in Santa Rey, CA, after years serving in the National Guard, and he doesn't quite know what he wants to do with his future. He could reinlist - and Uncle Sam would be more than happy to have him back - but he's just lost a friend during a rescue mission that's gone wrong and he's burned out with the military life. All Jason wants is to enjoy some R&R - meaning food, sleep and sex - while he contemplates his future but, as luck will have it, he arrives home in the middle of the worst storm Santa Rey has ever seen. He's barely worked on the "sleep" part of his immediate goals when Lizzy Mann, a blast from the past, arrives at Dustin's seeking his brother's help to get her to her 9-month pregnant sister Cece, who hasn't been answering her calls and who's probably stranded in her condo by the rising flood waters. Jason is surprised (and pleased) to meet Lizzy again, and offers to help her since Dustin isn't available - he's at work - but she isn't exactly thrilled with the idea of getting reacquainted with him, the bane of her high-school existence.
Lizzy used to have a huge crush on Jason during high-school, but nothing serious ever happened between them besides her helping him with his studies and him teaching her how to kiss - oh yeah! Now that they've met again 9 years later and they're fully-grown adults, sparks fly almost instantly and there's no denying the sexual chemistry between them. Naturally, she fights the attraction tooth and nail, because she can't let herself fall in love with him only to end up hurt in the end. But while they work their way to reach her sister's condo through the raging storm, she realizes that that's a fight she can't win. So why not take advantage of the fact that she's already soaking wet - from the pouring rain, that is? Besides, their wet clothes have to go if they don't want to catch pneumonia, right? And let's not forget the danger of hypothermia, so sharing body heat - in the nude - is a must. ;)
Oh yes, I really liked this book! Jason and Lizzy were fun and sexy, their love scenes were hot, the action was non-stop, and there was even a nice secondary romance involving Lizzy's sister Cece and the man who ends up helping her deliver her baby. Lizzy was a bit stubborn and slow to recognize what a good catch Jason was, but I liked her so I cut her some slack. The whole story happened in the span of 24 hours so one might think that the story was too rushed, but I didn't think so. Somehow, Jason and Lizzy managed to (re)connect with each other in that short amount of time and I closed the book believing they had a really good shot at living HEA.
Note: If you've read Flashpoint, Flashback and Heating Up The Holidays, you'll recognize Dustin, his fiancée Cristina and a couple of firefighters who are friends with Jason and Lizzy. There's no need to read those books to enjoy this one, though.

I always enjoy Jill Shalvis, even when the stories are over-the-top. And Storm Watch is over-the-top in several ways.
Jason is a Guardsman on leave while he mourns the death of a friend and tries to figure out what to do with his life. he returns home just as a hurricane strikes. Lizzy is a childhood friend who's always had a crush on Jason but was too shy to act on it. Now she's all grown up, more confident, and needing help. Lizzy's 9 months pregnant sister is somewhere in this storm and Lizzy has to reach her to make sure she's okay.
So far, so good. But here's the thing, the action in the book keeps coming to a grinding halt as Jason and Lizzy give into the incredible attraction between them and start passionately kissing at the most inopportune times. I kept thinking, "Aren't there sheets of rain coming down and howling hurricane force winds? Why are these two people kissing outside? HOW are these two people kissing outside?" But, hey, I went with it. ;-)
The howling winds and rain didn't seem to stop them from wading through deep water and conversing as they went, either. ;-)
Really, I did enjoy the book, but I found it perhaps more amusing than it was meant to be. But no matter what, Jill Shalvis writes well and I'll be eager to pick up the enxt book she's written.

I can suspend my belief for a lot of romance things, but I just could not get over how often the hero and heroine kept stopping to make out and do non-urgent things while trying to locate the heroine's pregnant sister during a FLASH FLOOD. HELLO, FLASH FLOOD. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE, PEOPLE.

Another good one from Jill Shalvis! I'm a fan and none of her books have disappointed me.
Jason Mauer is home on leave from the National Guard. He specializes in search and rescue and is ready for some R&R. Unfortunately, he arrives home in Santa Rey, CA just in time for a huge storm.
Lizzy Mann is worried about her sister and needs some help from her friend Dustin and his SUV. She doesn't find Dustin, but she does find his brother Jason--her high school crush.
Jason insists on helping Lizzy find her sister and off they go in the storm together.
The action begin right from the start and doesn't slow down throughout the book. It is engaging and fun to read. Lizzy and Jason have sizzling chemistry right from the beginning.
If you haven't read Flashpoint Harlequin Blaze 410, Flashback Harlequin Blaze 416, and Heating Up The Holidays Harlequin Blaze 435, you won't recognize Dustin and Cristina (and a couple others). It isn't necessary to read the books to get into this one, but they are great books and will tell you all about Jason's brother and his co-workers (EMTs and Firefighters).

Love Jill Shalvis, Love her writing, love her style; but I didn't love this. Really I just didn't love the h in this. As always, Ms. Shalvis' hero was yummy.

3.5/5 Pure fluff, and not one ounce believable. But it’s Jill Shalvis, so it was fun.
I chose it on a whim from my Kindle collection because I’m exactly halfway thru a long, heavy fantasy (Jay Kristoff’s Empire Of The Vampire) and I just needed a short little weekend break from that very dark world. Based on the cover, I had no idea this is actually a 2009 Harlequin Blaze reissue (!!!) so imagine my giggle when things turned spicy real quick. I mean, the modern cover doesn’t give that away at all 😂
But OMG I love Harlequin romances!! What a treat. This is a steamy second-chance romance between two high school crushes, now all grown up.
It’s a “storm of the century” situation-I’d imagine much like a hurricane-and has quickly turned into a severe flash flood situation. Despite mandatory evacuation orders, nurse Lizzy and her crush Jason, who works in disaster rescue, defy orders and set out thru quickly rising waters to get to Lizzy’s sister CeCe who is nine months pregnant and lives all the way across town, because she is not answering her phone. They start out in a Jeep but abandon it when the water rises too high, and then just walk and wade thru fast moving current all the way thru town. The weather is super dangerous and being out in it is absolutely crazy. What’s crazier is that every other page, they are stopping to make out, literally IN THE FLOOD WATERS.
You absolutely have to suspend your disbelief and just go with it. It’s SO fun, these romances always are. So it was a great for me to realize this is an old HQN. If all of these modern-covered Shalvis short romances are old HQN reissues, I’ll be bumping every one of them up to read sooner rather than later. I think I own most of them, so why have I let them gather dust in my Kindle for so long?!

This story from the Harlequin Blaze line demonstrates what an outstanding author Jill Shalvis truly is and why she branched out so seamlessly from category to mainstream romance. In less than 250 pages in Storm Watch, Shalvis tells the story of a second chance romance between Jason and Lizzy who knew one another in high school but could not give voice to their true feelings. An adventurous background allows us to watch Jason and Lizzy’s love blossom while introducing us to Hunter and Cee Cee, endearing secondary characters. Those who enjoy Shalvis’ mainstream novels will appreciate this gripping novel.

It started with a storm and the storm kept getting stronger as the floodwaters rose Lizzy was trying find someone help her find her pregnant sister before the floods became treacherous. Jason had just arrived home from months of high risk rescues and the loss of his best friend in a flood six weeks earlier.Lizzy and Justin have history going back to high school. Old feelings run high!
This novel definitely made my heart pounding as they headed off into danger. Would they find her sister CeCe before the neverending rain made it impossible? Would she be in labour? Would they give into their desires? ( spoiler: yes, way more than I needed them to.) Read on to find out.

I truly enjoyed this book. Jill Shalvis is a fabulous Author and I loved everything I’ve read that she’s written. I think this book is in a series that is written by different authors so I’m gonna have to go back and read those. Lizzy and Jason have known each other since high school and had a love-hate relationship. Lizzy’s Sister CeCe is also a big character in the book and I liked her side love interest. I enjoy books that have a double romance going on in them. I highly recommend this book.

Jason and Lizzy meet again after years apart. Lizzy goes to Jason's brother's house to get help to get to her sister and Jason is there instead. Jason decides to help Lizzy and they run into a bunch of issues with how much it has been raining. When they finally get to her sister's condo she isn't there, but Jason and Lizzy decide to stay since it is dark. These two start talking and tell each other their secrets and hope they don't scare the other person away. Lizzy tries to keep her distance from Jason, but he isn't allowing it. This was a good book!

A fast and entertaining read but completely unbelievable, even for a romance. Like really, you're going to make out every other minute with a guy you haven't seen since high school soaking wet with rain during a life threatening storm while worried your pregnant sister is giving birth alone...?

A cute, funny read. The author makes it so you can relate to the characters and pulls you into their story. It has a lot about helping family but also about looking at your life and where you want to go. He has had some trouble and is home to figure out where he wants to go from there. Only problem is there is a huge storm with flooding right after her gets home. She is trying to help some family but with the storm needs a little help. They are both trying to figure out where they want to go from where they are. The book hits the floor running and doesn't stop from there. I also enjoyed the humor mixed in. The connection between the characters was fun to watch unfold. A book that will go on my keeper shelf.

Storm Watch is a category romance by Jill Shalvis I've had on my "to be read" pile for a while, together with a few others by this author. I've previously enjoyed a few of her categories and looked forward to reading this one.
This is the story of Jason and Lizzy who went through high school together and ten years later meet up again. It's the classic tale of the geeky smart girl who has a secret crush on the gorgeous jock who hurt her feelings. In the middle of a devastating storm Lizzy needs help evacuating her pregnant sister Cece who she's sure did not evacuate and is not responding to phone calls. She goes to her friend Dustin for help and instead finds her old crush, Jason. Within minutes of meeting, Lizzy realizes that after ten years, her crush is blooming again and this time the chemistry seems to go both ways.
Jason is back in town on leave after ten years of working on the National Guard and is still recovering after the death of his rescue partner, Matt. He's in transition and doesn't really know what to do with his life. All he knows is that he needs rest, food and sex, in that order. Instead, he gets a storm, a flood, and Lizzy, his old high school tutor -- a girl who always made him feel more than he could handle.
The timeline for this story is three days, most of it taking place in one day while Lizzy and Jason are on their way to rescue Cece. Jason and Lizzy are kissing ten minutes after they see each other again, and while on their rescue mission it becomes a lurv-fest. I seriously questioned both Lizzy's concern for her sister and Jason's judgment as they indulged themselves on their way. By the time the storm passes and Cece is rescued, there is sunshine and there is love!
There's no question that this is a hot book with a likable hero and an independent heroine with a stubborn streak. However, although Storm Watch has its enjoyable moments and is definitely hot in the signature Harlequin Blaze way, this is a predictable story with a timeline that doesn't allow for real development.

I have read a Jill Shalvis book before after winning it off this site. I loved her writing then and this was just as great. I got this at a book sale last month for the Friends Of The Library and I was so thankful for it because I wouldn't have found it otherwise.
Jason Mauer just got home from his latest tour of the National Guard which has him needing some rest and relaxation after a rough 8 months. In those 8 months he’d had it rough not really being emotionally involved with anything after losing his friend Matt.
Lizzy Mann is a nurse, a caring loving sister who has come looking for help hoping to get Jason’s brother, Dustin, but she finds Jason.
Jason & Lizzy have a passed together and unlike what she thinks half of the book a future too. Jason used to get tutored in high school by her and once they were under the bleachers kissing because she was told she couldn’t by a guy and he taught her how. He had his chance to do more, but he was scared so he ran. Something she has never forgotten.
Jason isn’t running away from her this time, nope, he’s running to her and with her to get to her sister, Cece. They are battling not just their own feelings, but Mother Nature too.
There wasn’t just their story in this book. Cece also had her own story inside Jason and Lizzy’s and I really wanted there to be a sequel, but it all got resolved in this book.
Cece got her own saving Angel with her new neighbor Hunter coming to her rescue and delivering not only her baby, but her as well to the realization she could do what she was doing.
Jason never gave up on Lizzy even when she said they couldn’t be. I loved the hospital part at the end. There was even a little handcuffing action that was Hottt!!!!!

Jason used to get tutored in high school by her and once they were under the bleachers kissing because she was told she couldn’t by a guy and he taught her how. He had his chance to do more, but he was scared so he ran. Something she has never forgotten.
Jason isn’t running away from her this time, nope, he’s running to her and with her to get to her sister, Cece. They are battling not just their own feelings, but Mother Nature too.
There wasn’t just their story in this book. Cece also had her own story inside Jason and Lizzy’s and I really wanted there to be a sequel, but it all got resolved in this book.
Cece got her own saving Angel with her new neighbor Hunter coming to her rescue and delivering not only her baby, but her as well to the realization she could do what she was doing.
Jason never gave up on Lizzy even when she said they couldn’t be. I loved the hospital part at the end. There was even a little handcuffing action that was Hottt!!!!!

Storm Watch is about numerous events that happen over a 24 hour period during a hurricane that causes lots of damage to the town but ignites something seriously hot between National Guard, Jason Mauer and nurse Lizzy Mann.
Lizzy is desperate to get across town to maker sure her heavily pregnant sister is okay, she stumbles across Jason, the hottie who she had a major crush on in High School and who scorned her heart.
The last thing Jason expected when he came home from a nightmare of a mission with the National Guard was to use his rescue skills to the extreme and protect the one woman who scared the hell out of him when he was eighteen years old and never really got over.
This story has plenty of action and sexual tension in abundance. It was a quick enjoyable read with likeable characters and deserves it's place in the Uniformly Hot series.

I always enjoy Shalvis's work, though I find it a little distracting when some of the action doesn't seem plausible or there are gaps in explanations of how something that can take place (i.e. if you're going to climb into someone's lap while sitting in a Jeep, there's going to be an issue with the gear shift--I'd prefer a work-around be covered rather than ignore the whole thing). As always, there's a bit too much writing things off to unbridled passion to make the story move along, but that passion is always enticing and the characters are rich and create a real feeling of chemistry. All-in-all, thoroughly enjoyable.

This book didn't have a very strong story line. The main characters were supposed to be going to check on Lizzie's sister who might be in labour and caught in the storm. Lizzie was allegedly very worried about her sister but spent more time in a love fest with Jason. I felt it took away the drama and tension and became unbelievable.
If you want to read a love story with a happy ending then this book is fine, if you prefer a stronger read with an edge this isn't it.

Fully expected to not finish this one when I saw the cover. And then I expected Jason to stumble into some woman who was living in his house for some reason.
Neither happened, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it's another Santa Rey-set novel. I did wish the timeline was longer, but overall not too bad.

I adore Shalvis' writing. This was a good story, though a bit on the short side. I wish we'd had more page time to fully explore the heroine and her issues. As it was, I enjoyed the story but wasn't as connected to the characters and I'd have liked.
